Episode of Bardock: Giant On-Going Manga + Anime Discussion
Re: Episode of Bardock: Giant On-Going Manga + Anime Discuss
Especially since you can easily roll the Neko Majin Z chapters into one special that makes sense and fits into the continuity.
Re: Episode of Bardock: Giant On-Going Manga + Anime Discuss
Just watched the special. I thought the final scene with Bardock kicking the shit out of Chilled and doing the "Mario-Bowser" tail spin attack was amazing. It was an interesting theory as to how the Super Saiyan legend was born.

I'd like to buy this magazine with the DVD combo, will they sell it online (Amazon.jp? Where?)?Wobbuffet wrote:https://twitter.com/#!/manganewsjapon/s ... 0237423616
Episode of Bardock and Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyans to be released on DVD with Saikyo Jump 03 (the same magazine where DBSD is published).
I'm sure FUNimation's going to eventually license this and dub it then title as a "Dragon Ball Z: Episode of Bardock" (makes more sense than being just Dragon Ball) like they've did to Dragon Ball Z Kai.
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray

That is what Toei did for the International market, not Funimation.dbboxkaifan wrote:like they've did to Dragon Ball Z Kai.

If something is truly perfect, that's IT! The bottom line becomes there is no room for imagination! No space for intelligence or ability or improvement! Do you understand? Just for proof.

As far as I know, there's no source. But considering that all countries, including some that clearly have no relationship with FUNi such as Taiwan and Spain, got "Z Kai" instead of Kai, it's an inevitable conclusion.dbboxkaifan wrote:Could you share the source?Gonstead wrote:That is what Toei did for the International market, not Funimation.

I always thought to myself that those countries got the Z Kai logo version because FUNimation's cheaper than the pricey Toei.
If there's no actual evidence then it's just a rumour.

Re: Episode of Bardock: Giant On-Going Manga + Anime Discuss
So you think the United States is the only country which imported Kai directly from Japan? That's very unlikely. For your information, there are already ten dubs outside the US, and 6 of them use the 16:9 widescreen footage FUNi never imported. The Taiwanese Mandarin dub even has the sponsor cards which are the same as those aired on Fuji TV (but still named Z Kai). *Edit: In addition, all of the dubs clearly use FUNi's masters share FUNi's English credits in both opening and ending, but all the above six dubs with the 16:9 footage do not.dbboxkaifan wrote:I always thought to myself that those countries got the Z Kai logo version because FUNimation's cheaper than the pricey Toei.

Still, there's no authentic evidence that Toei Animation produced the Z Kai logo.
It's like on YouTube, someone says something and then others believe, though they never give a link to backup the story.

Huh, so I am going to directly ask some companies about this in that case.dbboxkaifan wrote:Still, there's no authentic evidence that Toei Animation produced the Z Kai logo.

No it's not. This is way different than just word of mouth.dbboxkaifan wrote:It's like on YouTube, someone says something and then others believe, though they never give a link to backup the story.
If you're not here soon... GET ON!

Yeah, it kinda sold-out in a matter of minutes this morning.
Luckily I got an order in
.
I tweeted out to CDJapan asking if they can get more stock in for order at some point. They did (not necessarily FOR US, but was after I asked...) for the "Special Selection" DVD, so I am crossing my fingers.

I don't see a listing for the March issue yet on Amazon Japan. Play-Asia doesn't seem to have Saikyo Jump listings at all. Anyone else have other places they've ordered from?

I added the CDJapan link to my signature (embedded in my name), so I can keep an eye on it.

Seen the special. It was fun to watch. I liked the design of Chilled, a typically Toriyama-style badguy with a gut. I can't say I like the animation. This new style looks like everything is made out of rubber. I'm all for old-school hand-drawn animation, just like with old Disney movies which never come out like that anymore
I didn't really like the story. It reminded me of fanfiction. It just takes too sharp a turn. Why does Bardock travel back in time? An easy and silly plot that ruins the great tragic ending of the Bardock special. And why does Bardock turn SSJ so easily? He befriended some alien kid for just a short time who is attacked and that pushed him over the edge? Bardock didn't have trouble wiping out entire alien populations before. And he didn't go SSJ when Freeza killed his men and later his entire planet.
I did like the Bardock special, and considered it canon to some extent because Toriyama referred to Bardock in the Manga. But I like this story about as much as a Dbz movie and don't consider it Canon. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy watching it of course.

James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.
