The Dragonball Movies: Worth Buying?

Post by Chaos Saiyajin » Sat Dec 17, 2005 7:47 pm

:) Interesting story time! Alright, today I was at BestBuy and noticed the Dragonball Movie Box Set for $20 (US). I didn't know what to do, buy it or not buy it, seeing as how I've never seen any of the DB movies. I've heard all the DB movies are just retellings of Dragonball itself, so I've never even attemped to buy them before. So here's the question, are the Dragonball movies worth buying? Are they as good as some of the Z movies, or are they simply going to be a waist of my money? :?

They're what-if retellings (except Path to Power, but that still wasn't verbatim retelling). I highly enjoyed all of the movies in the box-set. In fact, I find they're all better than Z movies 2, 4, and 6 to say the least. Path to Power is one of the best movies PERIOD, and the other two aren't let downs if you're only looking for more of the Z-style of movie; just less ki attacks and NO SSJs or Piccolo.

After reading the summeries on Daizex's movie guide, I'm definatley goin to by them. The GT animators doing Path to Power is a plus as well. :P

I saw Curse of the Blood Rubies on TV, that was quite good, it may have been the crappy UK dub, but it retained original BGM and Goku didin't sound that bad, apart form everyone else...

I would like to see Path to Power in Japanese, I think watching the dub version's first ruins it, first time Japanese viewing is better. Even though I haven't seen Path to Power yet.

Further more there's a few things that I haven't seen in DBZ yet, I haven't seen any other of the 3 DB movies, neither have I seen Z movie 7, or a great deal of GT episodes, nothing I'm missing there though, is there? Also, the movie where there's a Namek warrior who is bad, I ain't seen that one either.

Evil Namekseijin? That'd be Lord Slug. Try to avoid watching it if you can. :P

Movie 7...Let's see...Super Android 13! Definatley see this one, it's easily one of the best Z movies there are. As for GT, I'd say you haven't missed much if you haven't seen the first 16 episodes, FUNi did that over here, and when I go back and watch them now, it's like...meh.

I'd love to see the Path to Power! :P

We actually get Blue Water's GT dub in England, different voices, Japanese BGM, no lost episodes bullshit, I actually saw most of the first episodes, and they started getting boring, didn't watch it again until the next saga, and it was just on and off, I just tuned in to certain episodes, like the SSJ4 one, and I wanted to make sure I watched the last episode when it aired, they've stopped showing DBZ and GT for good now. I think...

And the voices are terrible for some people, it's like a different show altogether.
