Oh man why did this have to happen, I've been looking forward to the possibility of having DBZ on Blu-ray. Not to mention at least having a non-sucking way to watch DBZ with Faulconer for the nostalgia. I'm just relived that I didn't go and sell my Dragon boxes (not that I was planning too, but I saw a lot of people selling them off for $).

This is a possibility, as I've noted before FUNimation had to have checked how much it would have cost them to remaster DBZ the way they were doing it before going into production and how much to sell each set for.

If TOEI is doing there own BD release I really hope they go back and fix the green skies to blue, like others that was seriously my only complaint..

Even if it's a Kai style remastering(without the bad reanimation inserts) I'd be fine with that, and them leaving the grain as is.

I'm glad I never started collecting the Blu-Ray editions because one, I think the Dragon Boxes suffice enough for me, and two, I'm always leery of new FUNimation stuff ever since the whole Ultimate Uncut debacle.

I couldn't agree more. I love the Dragon Boxes, but they would've been sooo much better if they had included the US broadcast which is why I've gone back to try to collect the original FUNimation releases.

I'm really really angry at this... now I'm stuck with the orange boxes... thank you funimation. I wasted my money double dipping on a set that won't be completed,

I thought the same thing, but considering that Japan and the US share the same region code of Blu-ray, wouldn't that be sort of risky for Toei? Anyhow, I really wish Toei or FUNi would use a better audio source of the Japanese audio on a future BD release. I myself will encourage them to do so.

Maybe they should take this site down? It's making me angry! http://www.funimation.com/dragon-ball-z

The Blu-Ray level buyers here now know exactly how the fans felt when the Ultimate Uncuts got canceled.

Although I would've actually preferred the Blu-Ray sets, I went ahead and recently completed my already near-complete Dragon Box collection last month.

So glad I did now.

But honestly, I don't know what they were thinking releasing these so close to Kai, of which the HD presentation was a major selling point. Of course, maybe this had nothing to do with lower-than-expected sales at all.

At any rate, it's a shame. I liked knowing these were out there to replace my Dragon Boxes as necessary in the future. But FUNimation is too aware of the franchise's fans to leave us without a clean 4:3 version for long at this point. Hopefully we'll see a replacement or some repackaged Dragon Box footage (if their deal with Toei allows that) in the near future.

Consider this, between the Cell Game singles terrible macroblocking and the orange brick's cropped and oversaturated picture there's currently no quality official release of Gohan's final Kamehameha against Cell with BFP's music.

Fall fashion says dub fans are the new sub fans of 2012!

Edit
Also if anyone is selling those 2 disc DB sets I'm your man...just sayin'.

I'm just really annoyed... Atleast give the Dragonboxes another run. Otherwise we're back to square one (or should I say rectangle Widescreen)

I'm glad I got the DragonBall seasons as they were released. I've always wished for a similar product/release for DBZ, but I think the Dragon Boxes are the closest we'll get.

Except that those fans had the pleasure of falling back on the VHS, instead of crappy bricks.

Yes, I'm saying I'd rather watch the series on VHS than on the orange step-children.

No they didn't. There were no uncut releases of the first two seasons on VHS. FUNimation had long since abandoned VHS by 2006.

Unless you're talking about personal Cartoon Network recordings on VHS, which really isn't worth comparing to.

It's hard to say that these are cancelled more or less just postponed to another date, I just think it's something to do with "NEW" shows while they're still new or other projects they're working on.
It could also be that all their man power is going toward this. It's very likely that they'll release these in spurts or TOEI announces the Blu-ray Dragon Box!

My mistake, memory isn't so clear. I just remember paying $20 a pop for 3-4 episodes.

Ordered them both. Hope I can get at least 34 episodes in the best quality.

There is no way s company like FUNI wouldn't have done cost estimates for the entire series and possibly DB and GT. If they are cancelling these it either means one of two things:

1) The sales were far below expectations, thus not offsetting the costs.
2) They are stopping it short for another/different release (like the UUE were stopped since the Orange Bricks were being released).

The official story is technical reasons? C'mon! If these were selling like hotcakes, FUNI would find a way to make it happen.

I'm betting this goes the way of the UUE, but I'm hoping for a Toei BD remaster and Funi is just bringing it over and paying Toei a smaller amount for the release than remastering it themselves.

I still see the Orange Bricks in new stock at various places around town, so since those aren't gone, I'm guessing demand isn't down.
