Not trying to change the subject. But I wish whoever was behind the Street Fighter II the TV series & movie would remaster it.
Because in the movie you get a-lot of shots like these that don't look very clean or good
But what's the chances of Toei doing a ''Remaster'' for Dragonball z Blu-rays? slim?

The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

Maybe putting Z on Blu-ray was too much of a jump. FUNimation should have just released it on DVD.

Right? Why release it in HD when they have more than enough versions of the series on DVD already. Lets tack another one on!

Well, one could certainly argue--and many have--that a Blu-Ray release of DBZ was too early. However, it was inevitable. DBZ is a classic in its genre, and it is the fate of all classics to get re-released, for better or for worse. For example, originally "Wizard of Oz" was only in theaters. Then occasionally shown on TV. Then released to VHS. Then higher-quality VHS. Then DVD. Then Blu-Ray. It'll be a similar case with DBZ. As soon as Toei figures out a way to release DBZ in 3D, they'll do it.
To quote Sean Schemmel, "It's all about the money. Even for Toei."

Whether releasing Z on Blu-ray or DVD in fullscreen with the option of the american music would make up for the season sets to the dub fans.

Dragon Ball in 3D... That actually sounds pretty cool.

Well, the Dragonboxes have both red and green color cast (push as you call it), and then lost blues and variance in the reds. It is also not that hard to color correct it:

This is all based on color corrected Dragon Box footage, using pretty much completely free software.
Here are some comparisons of what you can do on hobbyist time:

Blu-ray or go home at this point. The timing of the actual release was asinine though. Another DVD release with Faulconer's BGM would have been fine if said DVD was a Dragon Box DVD, but that ship has sailed a long time ago. I believe Funimation would have made a killing if they began selling the Blu-rays first, and then Dragon Boxes midway through the Blu-ray run.
EDIT: Oh, and after seeing the great work Funimation has done with the Level Sets quality, the DBOXes are definitely the last DBZ DVD's I'm ever purchasing, hence "Blu-ray or go home at this point." Time to take the next step up.

We're all jumping to conclusion here. It's not canncelled. It's just put on hold for the time being.
Maybe it's hard to put a fullscreen format on Blu-ray. FUNimation is trying to find some easy better way.
Blu-ray is made for that.

Okay then, what's the reason why to put the Blu-rays on hold?

There could be many reasons such as money, lack of sales, how time consuming it is to remaster 291 episodes, how much man power it takes to do the remastering process.
These are all speculations though, and a lot of people have already mentioned what I have mentioned above. The two biggest reasons I can see though is lack of sales and money.

They pretty much just said the process is too time/money consuming... and that's very plausible with what they put into these two sets. Every other reasoning we've talked about here (even what I said) is just conjecture. We have no idea what's going on.
Things like, 'do you think they're going to do this..' 'or this...' really have no real answer because all we're doing is guessing. I'm all for posting theories and stuff usually, but this debacle might be better served with us sitting back and watching.

I'm not trying to sound mean or act like Funimation can't finish products, But ''If'' Funimation does indeed cancel these. I will never buy their product until they have completely finished it. This would make the 2nd time they've canceled Z. I'm excluding the Orange Bricks, they at-least finished those. for reasons I can't fathom.

lack of sells is laughable. Even the Dragon Boxes had poor sales and all 7 sets were released.

An automated process does finish things up rather quickly than going remastering frame by frame on 291 episodes.
While it's sad to see this being put on hiatus or whatever jargon people want to believe, the time was not right for this release. One month we finish up a great reproduction of the Dragon Box and the next we are starting all over... in HD! Come on FUNi, give people some breathing room.

Because FUNimation so totally did the remastering job!

The DBoxes were a limited release. While they probably sold a lot cheaper than they wished, right now they're getting harder and harder to find. I dunno if their unique release pattern was as much of a failure or not, or can be judged against everything else.
Also, the Dragonboxes, other than the masters, probably had lower overhead. Recycle their old subtitles and dub, author them onto a disk, get some new translations for the NEPs, time those in, done.
These require about 10x more work on them for the debris/dirt pass alone.

It has nothing to do with the wrong timing for these set to come out or money. They said it was technical problems/challenges. These sets seem to be too much work for them.

That's because FUNi didn't remaster the footage themselves. What they did were adding the English dub audio and subs, authoring each disc, and making packages.

All the remastering was done for them with the Dragon Boxes and they would have already purchased the masters from Toei. Why would they stop releasing them in the middle when they could at least make the money back even if it wasn't everything they spent on the masters. All Funimation had to do was produce some nice packaging and the Dragon Books.
With the Blu-rays they have been remastering this frame by frame which takes up a lot of time and money.
