What do you believe is the golden age of Dragon Ball

Post by PiccoloFan7289 » Thu Feb 16, 2012 10:54 pm

I would say Akira Toriyama was on fire from the 22nd Tenkaichi Budoukai Arc to the Saiyan Arc. Most of my favorite fights in the series are in those four arcs.

He was always on fire during his tenkaichi budokai arcs, except the ones in Z. I wish there were more of them!

Even though it's short I really like the other world tournament. Well I like all the tournaments :P

I would say from the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai to the Piccolo Daimao arc. I love both of those arcs so much for the art style, the fights and story lines.

The Majin Buu saga had some of the best fights in the whole series, in my opinion. Goku vs. Majin Vegeta being my favorite one.

The first three tournaments are by far his best work during the Dragon Ball-era. Perfect blend of action and comedy.

I personally say the 21st Tenkaichi Budokai to the battle with Vegeta are the best age of Dragon Ball. The Silver age of Dragon Ball to me would be the Freeza saga up to end of the Majin Buu saga. The dark age would be 1997-2002 since Dragon Ball was pretty much dead in Japan up until 2002 when it made it a good come back.

If focusing on a certain area, than I'd say the Buu arc. I think Toriyama was hitting the right balance of gag and tension at this point. And, it stands out from everything else Z-era, which is fine because a change of pace is usually good.
Gohan: At least he doesn't have his sword out anymore.
Kuririn: Yeah, and your dad put his finger away too.

For me, it would be either the Saiyan or Boo saga.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

22nd Budokai-Freeza for me was the peak of the series.

Although the Beginning to Red Ribbon Army arc in manga form is pretty good too.

And parts of the Aritifical Human/Cell arcs- Boo arcs have there moments. As does GT.
It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.

Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.

I think the golden age of DB was the 22nd Tenkaichi Budoukai to the 23rd Tenkaichi Budoukai, for reasons aforementioned. Also, I think this is the part where his artistic style had hit its peak.

I see the Golden age of DB as being from the onset of the Piccolo, the Great Demon Arc to the end of the Freeza Arc.

22nd TB - Saiyan/Freeza Saga for me. I believe it was once mentioned that DB reached it's peak in popularity with the Freeza Saga in Japan.

Well, my vote goes for period from Piccolo Daimao to Freeza, whereas Saiyan arc was absolutely the best for me.

I agree, from Piccolo Daimao to Freeza. While the Cell saga is not far behind.

The Red Ribbon arc through the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai. I liked watching Goku fly solo for so long. The rest of the series plays like an ensemble, and that was fun too, but seeing Goku jump around from location to location and meeting new people, who were enamored and intrigued by this small mountain bumpkin, had a lot of heart to it.

Basically, when it was an adventure series. The latter half became action/suspense, and it stopped exploring Dragon World.

I would say from the moment Piccolo Daimao appeared all the way up to the end of the Freeza arc. Both in the manga and anime, those are some of my favorite parts I'd say.

I agree with the people who said 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai-Freeza.
