Re: Dragon Ball games don't sell anymore
UT didn't chart in Namco Bandai's Q3 reports. Cut off for shipments on the chart was 400k. Spike and Bandai are poisoning the well. It's best to leave it be for a while and come back with some effort.
"I like the money it brings in, but Dragon Ball Heroes is the worst. That's actually the real reason I decided to start working on new material. I was afraid Bandai would make something irredeemably stupid like Super Saiyan 4 Broly." - Akira Toriyama, made up interview, 2013.

Re: Dragon Ball games don't sell anymore
Wait, they shipped less then 400k? Oh man. I don't even want to know how low the sales are. I'm hoping this kicks Namco-Bandai into gear and we see something better pops up eventually. I was very doom and gloom in another thread but I would honestly like to see one decent Dragonball game before this generation ends. I don't want to candle to burn out just yet.
...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?

I misremembered, cut off was 350k:

Re: Dragon Ball games don't sell anymore
Ultimate Tenkaichi headed the right direction, i.e, a brand new way of playing Dragon Ball Z but flopped because it did not allow the player to do the attacks himself, rather it was a set of buttons to press and once again the story mode was not faithful.
As for characters, there was enough to play with, replacement music was great, graphics too, Spike got creative and thought everyone would enjoy as it happened before with the BT series and RB.
Action - Adventure - Running - Jumping - Puzzles - Flying - Mini-Games - Talking
If the new DBZ game isn't restricted to just fights and what I've listed above, it can end up like a game everyone will pleasantly have fun playing it.
Oh yeah, add 2v2 or 16v16 for the online mode.
Bandai/Spike (or whoever) have only a couple of months left to announce the new game, since every year we've got a new DBZ game release.

A 1:1 recreation of all the major battles with animated cut-scenes and world exploration? What more could you really ask for in terms of a faithful story-mode?dbboxkaifan wrote:once again the story mode was not faithful.
I, for one, am tired of the same story and I have no interest in a faithful story mode. I would like to see more of what was done in Raging Blast 2 or Budokai 2.

Honestly I could go either way. I can tell you the story mode is not what killed that game.

Re: Dragon Ball Game Sales [Ultimate Tenkaichi = 700k ship]
Thanks for the heads-up. I was so late in covering last quarter's report that I kinda forgot the next one would be upon me so soon!

Re: Dragon Ball games don't sell anymore
For a game that was (and is still) sold all over the world only 700k is pretty bad, they should've been able to profit much more.
Just look at each new Call of Duty, it sells like hotcakes.

I find it shocking it sold better than Soul Calibur.dbboxkaifan wrote:For a game that was (and is still) sold all over the world only 700k is pretty bad, they should've been able to profit much more.

Re: Dragon Ball Game Sales [Ultimate Tenkaichi = 700k ship]
I actually just noted that in my update -- the SCV figures don't include the US for some reason. I have to imagine it sold at least 10K over here... right...? Weird.

You guys also have to remember that Soul Calibur V launched this year compared to UT in 2011.

Re: Dragon Ball Game Sales [Ultimate Tenkaichi = 700k ship]
After looking at the numbers of One Piece and DragonBall UT: Was expected.
After thinking about the release dates: That's crazy!
After seeing the regions: HOLY SH!T
DBZ UT: 6 months out and 3 regions
700k sold units, would make little more than 100k (120k) units per month.
SCV: 3 months out and 2 regions listed
690k sold units, making it 230 units per month (2 regions only). USA will probably push it to 250k-300k units per month.
One Piece: 2 months out, available in Japan only now
940k sold units, making it 470k sold units per month.
I'm also curious about current total numbers of other DBZ games now, but getting this infos isn't a piece of cake...
Also pretty worth noting in this comparison is that SCV and DBZ UT are fighting games and One Piece Pirate Warriors is an Hack'n'Slash/Beat'm'Up/whatever.
Note: I only listed the games, which crosses my interests somehow...

Re: Dragon Ball Game Sales [Ultimate Tenkaichi = 700k ship]
One Piece is a Dynasty Warriors game. And no, it wasn't selling 400k+ a month. Games on PS3 don't work like that, they're much more front loaded.

This means that the games are only sold to the stores and not to the customer or am I wrong?Super Saiyan Prime wrote:One Piece is a Dynasty Warriors game. And no, it wasn't selling 400k+ a month. Games on PS3 don't work like that, they're much more front loaded.

Re: Dragon Ball Game Sales [Ultimate Tenkaichi = 700k ship]
Yes, when publishers report sales figures they are almost always shipped to stores. This is why you have such nice full numbers rather than 132,233 or something. The stores have to pay for the games even if they don't sell so the publisher views it as a sale. It's also incredibly difficult to track sales to consumers.Super Saiyajin Luffy wrote:This means that the games are only sold to the stores and not to the customer or am I wrong?Super Saiyan Prime wrote:One Piece is a Dynasty Warriors game. This. Oh god, this. A Galaxy mode where you unlock what-if stories in a story mode (made up entirely of unrelated what-ifs).Innagadadavida wrote:I, for one, am tired of the same story and I have no interest in a faithful story mode. Re: Dragon Ball Game Sales [Ultimate Tenkaichi = 700k ship]
I guess I'll have a crack at this. I'll be honest a lot of the suggestions made by the fans are kinda ridiculous. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but this is what Spike has to work with..
Don't get me wrong some are good, but I can't feel but there is a 'childish' audience (even though DBZ is an old anime). A lot of the suggestions are kinda bad. MOAR characters, more what-ifs, vague terminology such as 'better fighting engine.'
Would it kill for a new developer with a hardcore fighting engine? Come on people step it up more!
I'd honestly like an fusion of Hyper Dimension and Super Dragonball Z. Heck make a sequel of either or go with a cheesy Hyper DBZ.
One thing is for sure, even Mike VegettoEX agrees (in his latest review) we need a break, a good one.
Just some constructive criticism. Oh Sparky I liked that discussion you did about a DB RPG, made me think.
