Since Kai's got that in 1080p HD, I personally would love Majin Boo's arc all in 1080p HD on Blu-ray.

I wonder when it will be the day I'll be able to watch Boo's arc in HD. x_x

Not just bits and pieces (Ultimate Tenkaichi), the whole arc (71 eps).

They're not discontinued. They were on a sale and now the sale is done.

Not sure if this has been pointed out of not but on the official DBZ website the picture of the 2 released blurays [followed by a bunch of empty spines] has been replaced with the newer movie packs.

Just something I found interesting.

Whatever solution funimation comes up with, I hope they don't start back to square one with episode 1.
But I feel like they will with new packaging and art.
They'll just srcap levels 2.1 and 2.2 and discontinue levels 1.1 ans 1.2.

As of now, I get the impression that the Blu-rays are on an indefinite hiatus. Maybe part of the reason why FUNimation is now considering releasing additional Dragon Boxes is to raise more money to help continue releasing them?

Then again, what was the main reason why the Blu-rays were discontinued again? Was it money related? Or was it just the long, tedious time it took them to manually remaster the entire 291-episode series frame-by-frame?

Yes, they are indeed. This has been announced for a while now.

Releasing the Dragon Boxes won't held build up that kind of funds. We believe it's just a way for them to somewhat save-face in light of canceling a product so quickly, and to also keep something "new" for the franchise out on retailer/store shelves during the remainder of time they have the franchise sub-licensed for their current run (which is through 2015).

Their press release stated:
FUNimation wrote:however due to technical challenges of restoring from the original film frame by frame, we are unable to continue these releases by way of this process.
In a nutshell, too expensive and labor-intensive to release as the price point they had in the time table they had set with the sales they were seeing.

It makes me wonder, why they didn`t just use Dragon Box masters? I'm complete amateur, at how remastering process work, but, wouldn`t it be easier, to just color correct Dragon Box master, without having to worry about film damage?

I was saying that because some people here were saying they were flat-out cancelled or discontinued like the "Ultimate Uncut Edition" singles. I was thinking from the press release that FUNimation was basically trying to say "We're unsure if they are cancelled and maybe we'll continue them one day, but as as of now, we can't continue releasing the Blu-rays."

Well, okay, I didn't mean all the funds, I was trying to say maybe part of it.

So basically, its both? Understandable.

Either way, those Blu-rays were seriously the best release of the series FUNimation has ever done IMO. It was almost everything that I wanted from them: Great 1080p remaster, frame-by-frame restoration, accurate colors that are closer the the orginal Japanese TV broadcast, Special Features (to me any kind will do), slightly more picture of all sides of the frame (the most picture out of all of the home media releases so far), and all 3 audio tracks from the Orange Bricks. If it only had the Japanese title cards and NEPs it would have been perfect! I just hope one day they will continue releasing them, so until then I'm sticking with my Dragon Boxes for now.

This has been discussed a few times prior in this thread, but the reason Funimation can't just use the Dragon Box master for their Blu-Ray release is because they almost certainly do not have access to the film itself, just a digital copy of the master recording which has already been scanned at 480p. I suppose its conceivable they could color correct that footage, but then it wouldn't be true to the spirit and intention of a "Dragon Box." In addition, they'd still be stuck at 480p, which would negate the main release for a BD release in the first place.

My question is if they do choose a cheaper or less time consuming remastering process. Is it guaranteed to look worse? I just got my level 1.1 and 1.2 today and its going on the shelf right next to the season sets 1 and 2 I got which is close to the ultimate uncut

Never bothered with getting more than the two seasons but if they don't come out with a blu-ray release I'm going to have to eventually buy the orange bricks just to rip the Funimation bgm on my computer to have my own "ultimate release". There is a very strong chance they will continue the blu-rays with a different remastering right? Since i really don't want to buy all the orange bricks just for their audio.

They just said "suspended" but FUNi may very well release the rest of the Levels with inferior video quality.

"Steve's Transfer" looks pretty good (480p) and if it's within FUNi's budget, they might aim to take it on Blu-ray. Alternatively, they could delay it for years and wait for Toei to make their own DBZ remaster on BD.

Why are people still using the word ''Suspended''? I took a picture of this I'll post it again unless people didn't see it the first time. They are canceled!

^ I saw that too, but FUNi's initial announcement about the DBZ Level Blu-rays were "suspended" it would be a ridiculously bad move for FUNi to actually cancel the DBZ Blu-rays since it's the only way for the viewers to get the series with great quality.

Otherwise it's orange bricks. :?

I think the word ''Suspended'' was just a fancy way of them saying their canceled :P I think they wanted people to have hope in them continuing to work on them, so they didn't say canceled right away.(until they released it on their site that they were canceled) but they did say they were looking to find a different way of remastering the series which pretty much means.
1.) Wait for Toei to do it
or
2.) go the route like the Orange Bricks.

If they are cancelled expect to see the Raditz fight for the fifth/sixth time if and when funimation does these BDs again.

The only thing that's cancelled is the Levels 2.1 and 2.2's release dates.

We've been over this, and we all agree with each other. There's no need to be so incredibly indignant about it every single time it comes up.

The Blu-rays, as they were being produced exactly as you saw them in 1.1 and 1.2, are done. They will not be produced like that anymore. 2.1 and 2.2 are not coming out in that capacity. Those releases have been canceled.

If and when FUNimation decides to re-visit putting out a Blu-ray edition on DBZ again in the future, they are certainly able to do so (just like they still kept putting out versions of DBZ after they canceled the "Ultimate Uncut Edition"); however, if and when they decide to do so, the production methods will be different from what they did in 1.1 an 1.2.

Can we please knock it off now?

So when they hopefully eventually come out with the blu-rays again do you think they will restart from the beginning? The more important question I had is do you think they will come out in the same type of packs as the level sets did? So that if someone already bought 1.1 and 1.2 they can not buy the first pack of the new blu-rays and start off from where they left off? Or will there be overlap? More clearly would the hypothetical new Blu-rays have a set that goes from episode 35 to- or would they do something awful like make each volume 36(or 42) episodes and you would HAVE to get the first set?

No real way to make that call (re: starting over, or picking up with "2.1" via any new remastering methods). I'm learning to not even attempt to predict what that company will do. Rest assured, they will do... something. I guess. Probably. Eventually.
