Krycek said the picture and sound of Dragon Box TM is amazing, and since he's a pretty trustworthy guy, I believe him.

Just ask many owners of the movies set and they'll agree the picture and sound is amazing. Even if the color's might be off, they are loads better than FUNimation's offering.

Non Dragonball related but I hope they re-release 'The End of Evangelion' in Blu-Ray or something.
The R2 DTS and DD5.1 DVD of The End of Evangelion is amazing! The DTS DVD was so worth the near $70 dollar hit! I'd really love for them to release an HD release of that!
Yeah... I'm a big Eva fan too, I also own the R2 "Dragon Box" equivalent of the series!

as much as I would love to have Dragon-Box: The Movies, I really want Funimation to just release the original Dragonball Dragonboxes

I have been holding off on buying those Blue Season sets for so long and my patience is starting to run thin. I just want to watch the original so bad! but I'm still holding off lol
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

I'm kinda feeling the same at times. I want to get into Fairy Tail when I have some more cash. And I also hear they're gonna be releasing a popular show called "Panty and Stocking" sometime this year. With the way my friends talk about that show, I'm kinda interested.
TheNamekGio wrote:Yea I'm hoping Funi releases the Dragonball Dragonboxes. But as for the other specials, EoB, PtetSS, JSAT .....don't count on it!! Thank GOODNESS I own all of them. And as for the dvd extras....not happening either. Funi never puts extras on their dvd's, just trailers. I plan on putting in lots of over time at work so that I can just buy the original Dragonboxes.
Actually some of their dvds come with extras like outtakes and commentaries. Though it depends on what and what release as some re-releases lack them similar to how some ADV re-releases lacked stuff the original singles had.

Yeah, I actually saw those today.
I thought they were the Level sets for a second, but soon found otherwise.

I already own the orange bricks unfortunately. but please excuse my lingo here but ''Why in the hell would I or anyone else for that matter buy season 1 part 1 and part 2 for 15 bucks a peice, when they could just buy season 1 for like 18 or 20 dollars?''

And Walmart usually has Seasons One AND Two together for ~$30.

They'll probably come down quick. I hope there's tons of them, because I wouldn't mind getting them for cheap, if only just for more coverart, the dub score, and non-overlapping-disc-fuckery.

Whoa they look really nice. If I didn't own the Dragon Boxes Z I'd probably aim to get these now.

They're just the Orange Bricks in new packaging.

Stores generally don't like large boxes because they take up so much shelf space. So maybe if the orange brick sales were slipping FUNi decided to streamline them to keep retailers from dropping the product entirely?
As for what's next, I imagine exhausting the DVD format is likely. Despite the Blu-rays' demise, it's certainly a temporary delay. I
highly doubt it was the death knell for Dragon Ball in high definition. We'll likely see them try it again down the line. Can't say the same for DVD, which is gradually on it's way out. It's unlikely that FUNi has significant long term plans for that format and is probably planning to exploit it as much as they can before Blu-ray becomes the de facto standard. And that's probably why the Dragon Box issue came up when it did. If they're going to sell the other Dragon Boxes, they have to do it now. Otherwise those 480p transfers will seem pretty dated by comparison.

Yeah, I know but this design/boxing is much better than the original for the Season sets, imo.

That's a level of brilliance that is quite awesome.
Chain stores more and more want under 20 'singles' or dual dvd sets to sell en masse to kids. It's one of the easiest sales to make at the moment. Hacking the sets in half and putting them in a standard case for 15 bucks at Wal-Mart will do quite well (this is why, for example, most of the Nickelodeon shows from Shout, among other animation sets from Shout, have switched to a half season product per set.)
Very curious to see the sales they've gotten for these. Stuff like this may even be kept instead of returned as excess stock and sold for a few dollars less as holiday DVD fodder later in the year.

At this point, I don't really care what FUNimation does with Dragon Ball anymore. They can wrap it up in edible chocolate boxes and people will still buy it.

I don't think there will be more Dragon Boxes. Kai part 8 will be next and if they do something else, it will be the Blu-rays again.
They may have just released 2 in order to build up the hype to release more later.
