EXPLANATION for FUNIMATION HATE

Post by Spikedude » Tue Jan 17, 2006 4:54 pm

A lot of people here, seem to think that Funimation is doing a really good job, and that they've done as best as they can with DBZ, or at least I hope thats the reason people get outraged when I say funimation is horrible.

There are many other companies ou there that release anime, and sometimes they dont get the high quality material they were hoping for.
Everyone seems to think that because funimation added good subtitles, and encoded at a hight bitrate, that they are "GREAT" "THE BEST" "AWESOME"...
Obviously the people that think that, dont know that Funimation isn't doing as good as it can, specially with a series so well liked such as DBZ.

For example , lets take ADV into the picture, they too release JAP ANIME in the USA, including Robotech. When Robotech was released on DVD, I was suprrised at how bad the quality was, and was a bit dissapointed. Apparently ADV felt this way too. and decided to release a REMASTERED VERSION, below I have posted a few images, that show the ORIGINAL image on the LEFT and the REMASTERED image on the RIGHT.

Now before we see the pictures, lets compare ROBOTECH and DRAGONBALZ

Robotech Aidate: 1983
DBZ Airdate: 1989

Here are the pictures that show the extensive remastering that ADV did

http://www.robotech.com/gallery/galimag ... php?id=473

As you can see, the remastering is INCREDIBLE, and far better than the "REMASTERING" done by Funimation on DBZ, which is NEWER than Robotech.

Also look at the beatiful and complete box set released by ADV

http://www.robotech.com/store/viewproduct.php?id=239

Remastered 5.1 audio, 7 extra discs full of fun stuff, scenes previously cut from the original broadcast, with new opening & closing credits and eye catches, creating a never-before-seen version of this seminal adventure series.

With that said, I think a lot of you will find that Funimation isn't really that great.

Just to clairfy for you ADV had NOTHING to do with Robotech Remastered besides printing the discs. Harmony Gold managed to find some unused voice samples that were in pretty bad condition. They decided it'd be neat to work those samples to better quality and remaster the video with it, and thus robotech remastered was born. If you want to give ADV props, thank them for the upcoming Super Dimensional Fortress Macross dub they're doing as they convinced Harmony Gold to allow them to do it.

As for the money diffrences, Harmony Gold got insanely rich from continuing real estate sales that they do. That was not ADV's doing either.

........*sigh* This is really sad. You haven't proven anything bad about Funimation. All I have seen you do is senselessly try to put down those who love FUNi & bash the dub. You haven't made any real points, you may want to take lessons from others around here who don't like FUNi, I can atleast respect their opinions.

That's wonderful. You pointing out things about other DVDs that are WRONG doesn't matter to me, and quite frankly, they wouldn't even if they were CORRECT. Yes, FUNimation could've done better with the Ultimate Uncut DVDs. The fact that you seem to have the illusion that "all they care about is the money and they have no productions values whatsoever" from the previous, is crap. Again, not an argument, it's FACT that that's completely untrue, and I already made my argument on the previous thread. Again, you can "hate" whatever the hell you want, making up things about people that aren't true, is not something I like to see.

Unless it was due to a licensing or censorship issue, they did do a good job.

Bilingual / Trilingual DVD's each release. Good Job.

Accurate subtitles for the JP lingual impaired. Good Job.

(With the exception of the first two seasons) Uncut footage was released the first time out. Good Job.

Re-release of the first two seasons with multiple language options and footage on the first time out. Very good job.

You might be right. But if you want to knock Funi, knock them for something they could control. Knock for the bi-monthly release schedule for the first two seasons, knock them for only releasing three episodes per disc. Hell you can even knock them for releasing the series out of sequence. You might actually get the some agreement on these.

ADV has been inconsistent with accurate translations on certain series. "Saiyuki" anyone? I love the way they never translate the kanji of their series' dub versions. I guess dub watchers don't need to know what's written on signs or what even the title of the episodes are eh? Not to mention that ADV seesm to think that they can never release enough formulaic harem shows. At least Funi's catalog has impressive titles. See? I can bash companies too. Funi aren't the only ones. As I said before, get over yourself. Aren't there some dating sims you can go waste your time playing or something?

Just for the record. I don't hate ADV. Just pointing out that there is no perfect company and Funi aren't the only ones that have done wrong things.

As noted in the other thread...

If I see another post by you past this point in time (5:50 pm Eastern on January 17th) that even remotely steps on a single rule, your entire ISP is going to be banned.

Close thread.
