Kikuchi's music in Dragon Ball and other series

Post by dbboxkaifan » Tue Aug 21, 2012 3:13 pm

People who only know English possibly haven't seen Kiteretsu, Doraemon, Ninja Hattori, Dr. Slump and Arale-chan, and other series.

The whole thing about these different series is that Kikuchi's music is always easily recognizable and nice to hear in these different old series.

Although, he [Kikuchi] did not compose for Crayon Shin-chan (as far as I've heard and read) the earl episodes sort of feel like the tracks were Kikuchi-fied, but it's just my opinion. :P

Btw, gonna give Kamen Raider sometime a try as it's available with English subs.

His music in Tenchi in Tokyo sounds just like pieces DBZ would use.
GT isn't bad, just sucks ass in comparison to the other 2 animes.

I've seen many Yamamoto fans saying that he is better than Kikuchi because he can use different music styles and Kikuchi's scores always sound exactly the same. But I do hear differences between Kikuchi's scores in different series, so I never understood this sort of opinions.

By the way, except for the Dragon Ball series, my favorite is Doraemon's score. It reminds me of my nostalgic childhood.

I love how Kikuchi's music and styles can morph to fit so many different genres and franchises and yet you can always trace them back to him. I began watch Sakigake!! Otokojuku the other day and after about ten minutes I threw my hands and the air and was convinced "That's Kikuchi!" and it turns out I was right!

Thanks for that, Jacob.

I was listening to Sakigake!! Otokojuku album and noticed an extremely familiar piece used that was also in DBZ (BGM Collection - Disc 3). Instead of enjoying SO's music I was taken back to DBZ.

That's exactly it.

Another series I'm itching to watch, thanks to the music, also. :P

It's funny how people would say that about Kikuchi when it's much more prevalent in Yamamoto's work.
