FUNimation thought that was a brilliant idea for their DBGT singles, and ultimately ran out of "-tion" words and had to use a "-sion" word.
I didn't even think that this kind of twisted idea would pop up in anyone's mind but mine, and thanks to you, I learn that it's part of an official product!!
Simon Furman did the same thing with the individual titles of a six-issue comic miniseries in 2003 and subsequently reused most of them for the arc titles of a set of miniseries several years later. The running joke at the time was wondering which "-ation" title he would use next while hoping it wouldn't be "cancellation." Had the editors not cut short his plans, he would have used "Expansion" (thus breaking the "-ation" trend) for a follow-up arc, but a different writer soon took over.

Why did many Anime do this sort of thing?

It could just be a cultural thing. Maybe they've embraced the promotional/hype aspect of it, with little concern for shock and surprise.

Although I try to avoid spoilers nowadays, I know when I was a kid, I loved knowing about things before I actually saw them in the show/movie/etc. So maybe it's not even a cultural thing, but an age thing.

This is why when I watch my Dragon Boxes, I don't watch the next episode previews during a marathon watching session. The NEP are a very cool thing all their own, they can be watched by themselves later for those who don't want the suspense killed. Their might've only been ten or so times where I honestly watched the entire episode preview. I mostly skipped them. I love that they were added, but I choose to not watch them, as I want every scene and the feelings that stem from them to be as fresh and new as possible. Of course, one of these days, I'll watch EVERY SINGLE DBZ episode preview. Gotta watch it all!
