Bardock and the Saiyan Race
Bardock and the Saiyan Race
So, as I'm sitting here watching the Freeza saga, a question popped into my mind. In both the Japanese and English version, Mr. Popo requests of Shenlong that all those killed by Freeza and his men be restored to life.
...Wouldn't that have revived Bardock, his crew and the majority of the Saiyan race as well?
Ulisa:)

Huh....I always thought the year was merely to wait for the Dragonballs to be able to be used again. During the King Piccolo Saga, Bulma actually made capsules to preserve the bodies of those killed because they didn't plan on being able to wish them back within a year. Was this a miscalculation on her part? I don't remember where it's said that the dead must be revived within the year...can you clarify that for me? I might have overlooked it...

Even if it did revive the Saiyans, there's no planet Vegeta anymore, so they all suffocated.ulisa wrote:Huh....I always thought the year was merely to wait for the Dragonballs to be able to be used again. Saiyans can breath in space. Bardock could when he flew up to Frieza's ship and so could Vegeta and Nappa when they destroyed planet Arlia. I think there are also some shots of Vegeta training on some comets or space rocks or something in the Garlic Junior saga too. It's a mystery why Goku never could, pherhaps it's tought to them or they have to train to do it.
Then again, we never see him try.

Kami said that anyone dead more than a year couldn't be revived. With the idea during the King Piccolo saga that wasn't a rule at the time. Remember even before that, Upa suggested using the D-Balls to revive Granpa Gohan instead of his father.ulisa wrote:Huh....I always thought the year was merely to wait for the Dragonballs to be able to be used again. I agree, my point of view does anyway. If you wish back an amount of people that have died under a certain condition, such as the villains of Piccolo Daimao and Freeza, then only all the beings within a year's time would be revived. I recall when Kaio-sama came up with the plan to use Shen Long to revive all of Freeza and his henchmens' victims, he told Tien and Yamcha they'd have to wait another year to be revived, implying they'd need to be revived by Shen Long and that'd be certainly longer than a year since those two were killed. Of course, Porunga came into business with his 260 day time on Earth, during which he revived Tien, Yamcha, and Chaotzu as well.Chibi Mystic Gohan wrote:I think the one year rule was refering to wishing back a mass amount of people.

I was watching the episode of Z when they had just defeated Kid Buu, and Goku said they had to wait only 6 months to use the dragonballs again, then again, this was the dub.ulisa wrote:Huh....I always thought the year was merely to wait for the Dragonballs to be able to be used again. Wow, it seems all these rules about the Dragonballs have suddenly become confusing. I'll take a glance through the Manga in the next couple days and compile all the stuff I can find...unless someone beats me to it.

If this was true, Freeza wouldn't have mocked Goku about how he would survive and goku wouldn't when Planet Namak blew up. Given that Freeza had past experience with Saiyajins, he would know whether or not they could breathe in space.Hero 004 wrote:Saiyans can breath in space. First, about the Bardock Special scene: As was mentioned, Bardock and the others were merely in the upper atmosphere of the planet. Very very thin air up there but I'd bet that they'd all have strong lungs anyway so they'd not have too much trouble breathing in the thin air.
As for the matter of the wish. I'm 99% sure that it's in refrence to the massive ammount of people. Freeza's been responsible for the deaths of hundreds of trillions of people. Shenron most likely doesn't have the power to revive that many people at once. Enough to go back a year, but no more.

It was 4 months in the original, and that was because they didn't use all their wished before.Saiya-jin wrote:I was watching the episode of Z when they had just defeated Kid Buu, and Goku said they had to wait only 6 months to use the dragonballs again, then again, this was the dub.ulisa wrote:Huh....I always thought the year was merely to wait for the Dragonballs to be able to be used again. Now that I think about it he could see the ship in the sky, so that makes since. I guess the idea of the original Saiyans being able to breath in space was just something that always stuck in my mind. Thank you for correcting me.gotenx wrote:Bardock was not breathing in space, but were still inside of the atmosphere of Planet Vegeta, so there for their was still oxygen, or at least a small amount of it.

Things like the whole "breathng in space" problem just strikes me as a case of the writers not being concerned with science (I doubt they expected people to examine the series in every minute detail). Of course, the whole series doesn't pay any attention to science, so in one sense, it doesn't really matter much.
