Dragonball Evolution's effect on the franchise
Re: Dragonball Evolution's effect on the franchise
They could have done a CGI movie, with better results, why they chose live-action is ridiculous, Bulma was cute, that's it.
The problem between Batman and Robin and DBZ is that Batman had good movies before and after the B&R fiasco, whereas DBZ had only one official live-action adaptation and it shit the bed with nothing to salvage it. Not to mention those terrible live-action fan adaptations... UGH.
DBZ needs a CG film like Final Fantasy VII to fix what cinema exposure it already has.

To be perfectly honest, I couldn't care less about the fans a re-issue might alienate because if all they're concerned about is being able to scalp the people who were either unaware of the Dragon Boxes or couldn't afford them at the time, they're just leeches and deserve to have their greed backfire on them.

They always tend to look better as well. The destruction of the White House in Independence Day is much better looking then any of the destruction scenes in the 2012 movie in my opinion.Goku100xKamehameha wrote: Simple.
Great CG only lasted about a decade or so, Great Practical Effects lasted forever.
You can have a blockbuster even with a small budget. Mortal Kombat had a budget around 30 million and it end up being a huge hit. It was #1 for three weeks, spawn a sequel and a TV series.Goku100xKamehameha wrote:

Why CG? If you're going to animate DBZ, it might as well be 2D, just like how the original series was...Gokuden wrote:They could have done a CGI movie, with better results, why they chose live-action is ridiculous, Bulma was cute, that's it.

Thankfully, that's exactly what's happening with BoG.

I think a DBZ Toku series might work. Tsuburaya Productions could make an awesome DBZ show.

Mortal Kombat was released back in 1995 and back then 30 million was quite big, I would bet.Hellspawn28 wrote:You can have a blockbuster even with a small budget. Also, Mortal Kombat arguably had more expore to the general public due to the video game's controversy.

When Godzilla 1998 was shown to Toho, they decided to revive series, so fans own something to this abomination, as for Evolution, i don`t think it affected franchise (beside Team Four Star Piccolo dress up as Spike) and got quickly forgotten

Re: Dragonball Evolution's effect on the franchise
I honestly feel that live-action adaptations or anime (or even cartoons) are extremely hard to pull off. Dragonball Evolution was a complete failure, as was The Last Airbender. It's much easier to adapt American comics simply because its American and the actors more or less resemble their animated counterparts, but as for Japanese manga/anime, it's different. It also doesn't help when you have a white guy playing the role of a japanese guy, or a filipino guy (Sokka?).

Re: Dragonball Evolution's effect on the franchise
I don't think the race of the actors had anything to do with Dragon Ball Evolution and The Last Airbender being bad movies, personally. So long as the race in the original story wasn't some sort of plot point, does it really matter if an adaptation is different? What matters is if the actor can pull it off.

I don't think having Goku being played by a caucasian actor is not a big issue. They had Bane playing a caucasian actor and it turn out just fine. DBE was a bad movie in general and it's still a bad movie if you don't view it as a Dragon Ball movie.

It's really just personal opinions, to some people it matters, to others it doesn't. Apparently to many movie critics it did.Hellspawn28 wrote:I don't think having Goku being played by a caucasian actor is not a big issue.
