FUNimation DBZ TV Blu-ray Official On-Going Thread

I was thinking of making a petition. Perhaps we could ask FUNimation to create an art box to hold the two level sets, and also have the box come with a third disc completing the Vegeta arc. At least this way we could at least have the complete first arc on Blu-ray. The episodes are already done, why not just throw that shit on a disc?

I never did it because I didn't think it would get enough signatures to make FUNimation even consider it.

Hey, I'd sign your petition! But I checked the Funimation boards, and they are completely dead. Tumbleweed is a V.I.P.
It's just lame that we didn't get to complete this amazing set, but it cost them $90,000 every 90 minutes, and the way the price of the Blu-rays are going down, they had to liquidate the stock which is still alive and kicking. Funimation shouldn't have released the Orange Bricks or Dragon Box. Without them, this would have sold immensely.

Some people are saying Toei called for Funi to quit them, fearing that their product would be outshined by Funi.
Or, maybe Toei has something in store for us. (Yeah right, it took them a century to get the series on DVD)

Some people say they're content with their orange bricks, others cling to their Dragon Boxes, but neither say they are inferior versions.

Well, they already finished the Vegeta arc in this transfer. I wouldn't make a petition for them to do more episodes. I mean, I'd love it if they did but, I figure they have these episodes already done. Just throw it on a disc.

Oh well, hopefully they get back to them. I want physical copies, there's something just wrong and dirty about owning DLC.

The PSN version I'm not certain, so those who own a PS3 and PC are stuck to those two.

Zune PC = 720p (Download Zune PC)
PSN = 720p? (Unable to check as I don't have my PS3 at the moment)

Xbox Video Marketplace videos are in 1080/720/480, in this case they're 1080p, 1.80 GB per episode (FUNimation Eng Dub W/Original Music) and 160 MSP for each HD episode of DBZ. SD episodes cost as little as 80 MSP.

Anyway, I've transferred most of the Dragon Ball game videos from Xbox to PC, except the Japanese Raging Blast because they were about the gameplay's development with commentary, and I personally didn't find it all that interesting (it looked pretty boring). Each rounded around 400 MB.

Just give me the episodes with a high bitrate encode and forget the rest to keep costs down.

One of the reasons why they might not be releasing is that it's stalled/cancelled, but if you purchase the episodes from XBL/PSN/Zune and then burn them to a Blu-ray Disc / HD-DVD / DVD it's as if the entire Saiyan arc is complete, technically it would be. Except no disc art.

Blu-ray and HD-DVD would fit better than DVD, because the remaining unreleased episodes could fit in it with extra audio tracks added and whatnot.

I feel the same way. Like is we payed a certain amount to get them on Blu ray I wouldn't mind. If I were to do it myself I'd have to buy the episode off those sites, rip them, get the bricks out, rip the Japanese Audio and U.S broad cast, make them into a MKV and burn them....make blu ray covers...done

But I have none of the programs to do this...except the cover maker

If the Japanese broadcast audio of episodes 035-039 is available online, I'd take it over the muffled ones on the Dragon Box Z, but for the FUNimation US Dub W/Faulconer Score, it has to be legally obtained via the DBZ DR sets, at its best quality.

One thing I'd do differently from your perspective, would be purchasing a Blu-ray slim case of four discs, instead of a custom cover. Downside of the discs, no disc art (unless printed on 'em).

DBZ Level 1.2 - Episodes 018 to 039.

Ideally Blu-ray or HD-DVD discs would be the best choice as both allow 30GB/50GB per disc, so there's plenty of room for all remaining episodes (w/JPN audio + FUNi US Dub W/FS & Eng subs).

The only issue is that they're DRM-protected, but once you bypass that bs you're good to go and do whatever you want with the video you've legally bought. I've not yet found an app that successfully works, but either way, I'm purchasing the unreleased episodes so if they get removed, they're on my Download History at all times.

Each episode weighs 1.80 GB, though, with the addition of more audio tracks it'd increase a bit more.

Stop wasting your breath guys...the downloadable episodes are not near the quality of the Blu-ray (MUCH lower bitrate), nor do they have lossless audio. It would be a shame to do all that work and still have inferior video quality and Kikuchi's beautiful soundtrack in only 640Kbps 5.1.

So basically wait more time patiently... Not exactly news, but it's something.

If they can't provide the same quality they should just leave it to Toei Animation which they'll probably at some point do the full job (OP > EP-A > Break A/B > EP-B > ED > NEP) in HD. Which makes me wonder if this is worth purchasing considering Toei Animation will pick it up, but it might take years till then.
