Last time I watched Movie 12 I was terribly disappointed by how slow paced it seemed compared to the other other movies. But that was like two years ago I may have to watch it again to see if anything has changed.

Don't you think Movie 13 rather than 12 would be a better example of a long Dragon Ball Z film since it somewhat deviated away from the standard plot structure and introduced a much more richer story than the other 12 (for what it's worth at least).

I shall counter that with Movie 12, which I think was paced nicely. And, well, to be fair, most of the "story telling" Toei has attempted to do on their own hasn't really been very good so I mostly blame the pacing problems on that. I think Toriyama knows a thing or two about storytelling to keep up the pace of the movie.
I don't think Movie 12 could have sustained two hours, though.

Yeah, perhaps Toriyama will make a difference, but I have a feeling his participation is mostly just ornamental ("Is this good, Mr. Toriyama?" "Sure thing, kid. Look, do you have change for this gold brick? I want to go get a soda."). 2 hours is too long for a DBZ movie and yet too short for a full DBZ story.
His involvement in the 2008 Jump special was minimal and that turned out well. He created the general plot and characters did he not? This time he supposedly was deeply involved with the script writing stage, so I'm going to assume that means he again helped with the general outline of the plot and character design on a grander scale.

Also, maybe movie 12 as it stands wouldn't sustain 2 hours... but it had enough good ideas that it could have worked as a 2 hour long story I think.

I'll be honest with you guys. I know it goes against the popular opinion but I don't think Movie 13's story is all that great. Sure it was more cinematic than the others, but the story itself is kind of meh. A guy who looks kinda like future trunks appears and tries to stop a sealed monster from being released into the world by a magician type guy who looks like babidi. Of course, none of the movies are really original in that sense... they all borrow heavily from whatever was going on in the manga at that time. But I dunno, I just found all the slow parts with trunks and Tapion kind of boring... leading to the ultimately confusing ending with the sword that is or maybe isn't but looks just like the one future trunks had complete with confusing montage.

Movie 12's storyline, evil from hell breaking loose in the afterlife and all the evil in hell being set loose on earth... was more original in a sense. Plus I like the humor in that movie a lot more and it has moments that stirred me more emotionally (Vegeta crying in hell) then anything 13 had.

Also, the thought occured to me... maybe the running time of Battle of Gods is not posted anywhere yet because the final cut is not finished so there is no running time yet in the first place.

Similar Movie 13 thoughts here.

I do admit that Movie 13 did feel more like "movie-like", and I know story-wise it's a bit fuller, but I just can't get invested in it for the slightly shameless reason of not being all that attached to the two characters most of the movie is built around. Child Trunks is not really one of my favorites. I don't dislike him, I'm just neutral on him. Same goes for Tapion; very lukewarm on him. He's ok, but I'm not all that interested in him. If I'm not interested, how am I supposed to care? I can appreciate 13 for what it is, but it just doesn't grab my attention all that well.

Also! What I mentioned a few pages back about VJump's early-readers trends? It's held true. There are leaks out for this month's VJump, but all that's been leaked atm is what VJump's saying about the latest Yugioh stuff (of which I have no interest) but at least that means that we might get scans for BOG info sooner than later.

I feel the same way about those characters and that movie.

Seems we have a slight design difference between Heroes and most of the movie art so far:

I like that in-game model for Birusu. I agree the eyes do look better there. I think the muted color scheme for the game makes me think more of the actual type of cat he's based off of.

I prefer the vibrant purple skin, myself. It's a better contrast to the other characters, in my opinion.

Interesting that we're seeing a (subtle) design/color change like that so early, though. Maybe he changes colors during the film?

Some great examples have already been mentioned (Ghibli Films, etc.), but for the record, it's not a Japan-exclusive thing. Disney's Fantasia is over two hours long and a lot of Pixar's movies (Cars 1, The Incredibles, Ratatouille) fall only a few minutes short of that runtime. It certainly can be (and is) done; it's just not going to happen for a Toei Dragon Ball film.

I know it's already been answered; I just like this particular topic.

If they used the first 20/30 minutes as an introduction, with the gang going up against Pilaf...that could lead into the Bilis/Wilis part, which I'm sure could stretch for another 90 minutes.

Still, doubtful this will be any longer than your standard 90-minute runtime.

Oh snap!

There's a movie theatre nearby in the city which has an "Cinema Asia" section coming soon.
Cinema Asia

EVENT Cinemas is excited to bring the latest Asian theatre blockbusters on a 'same day and date' release with Asian markets.

You'll find the latest films from Hong Kong and China hot off the press, as well as major movie releases from Korea, Thailand, Japan, Vietnam and Taiwan. And in case you don't speak the language, don't worry - all our Cinema Asia films are shown with English subtitles.
Maybe, juuuuuust maybe they might actually show Battle of Gods there if they are living up to what they're saying.

Just have to wait and see I guess.

Sorry for the stupid question but could someone explain to me 20th Centruy Fox's role in this? Does that mean it's going to get a theatrical release in America? I remember someone commenting on a Sean Schemmel tweet (he said he hasn't begun work on Buu or BOG) that imagine if they chose big name actors to provide the English voices, could they theoretically do this/do you think they will?

We don't know their role. Technically, they might not even have a role beyond getting "Producer" in credits, since their government funding came from the fact that the crappy live action movie was done by Fox, and connected DB to Fox to a degree.

If they have the character interaction and development of Movie 12 + the pace of Movie 13 = Fangasm.

This is the same design that was used on what I would presume to be the character's reference sheet, as the only other two poses that are really missing would be the back view and a side view of just the head.

Image

It seems more like the animation team just deviated from that design over time and went with one that they were more familiar with and had more references for (stupid Babidi eyes xD).

That clearly looks like the rabbit Frank from the film Donnie Darko. In fact I'm starting to think that Battle of Gods will be completely based on Donnie Darko, it explains so much.
