Is the music in Budokai 3: HD a lot worse than the original?
I am attracted to the idea of playing B3 with updated graphics, but not if the new music heavily detracted from the experience that the original had...

The music used are from various international DBZ games' soundtracks, and they had a great selection of them, also fitting.
You can watch walkthrough videos (here's one of Budokai 3 HD) to hear the music or download the tracks and listen to them.

Re: Is the music in Budokai 3: HD a lot worse than the origi
I still stick to my opinion that while it's a bummer that the original tracks couldn't be used, the replacement music isn't half bad. There are several tracks that either don't fit the action, or sound too similar (which is an inherent flaw of the BT2/BT3/RB1 music in the first place.) However, I do like most of the tracks that appear in B3 HD, as I already like many of them from the games they were previously heard in.
As someone who likes Budokai 3 for it's gameplay and character roster; I'd say the replacement music doesn't affect gameplay at all, it just offers a different, though slightly inferior presentation. If you can get the HD collection cheap, I'd still recommend it. And PS3/Xbox 360 allow you to play your own music instead of the game music anyway, so... pop in Yamamoto, Kikuchi, or even Faulconer if you wish!

Re: Is the music in Budokai 3: HD a lot worse than the origi
I get why they had to replace the music but for me personally not having the original soundtrack instantly breaks the nostalgic illusion that the HD collection was going for. I've always been a little OCD when it comes to music in video games so I find it very hard to ignore the change.
If they'd chosen instead to remix or make slightly remastered cover versions of the songs to avoid any legal trouble then I'de definitely be more in favour of it. As it stands though I don't find any reason for me to not just play the PS2 versions. With ought online play it just seems pointless.

Re: Is the music in Budokai 3: HD a lot worse than the origi
Unfortunately, Namco Bandai went the cheapest route possible in putting out the HD collection. It's far cheaper to use existing catalog music, than to pay a composer to create new tracks. I'm surprised they bothered to compose a new theme for B3's, instead of using an existing track like with B1's intro.
I still say the biggest problem with the collection is no online play. Budokai 3 deserved a proper online mode.

Xbox allows your own music? What really? Is this exclusive to this game?theoriginalbilis wrote:I still stick to my opinion that while it's a bummer that the original tracks couldn't be used, the replacement music isn't half bad. You can navigate to the dashboard (or XMB on the PS3) and, if you have music copied to your hard drive, you can play it atop the current game.
It will not stop and start on new stages, back on menus, etc. -- it will literally just keep playing atop the game as if you were playing a CD in the background.

No. It always has been like this, ever since the Original Xbox.Nex Carnifex wrote:Xbox allows your own music? What really? Is this exclusive to this game?
Load the music from the USB/CD/HDD and listen to it whether you're playing a game, browsing the menus, internet explorer (I use it quite often when I'm on Xbox and it's fantastic) or anything else.

If your computer and Xbox share the same network, you can stream music using the audio player as well.

Personally, I find the music in the HD Editions horribly disgusting, not because they sound bad, but because I can notice the lack of effort they put into mixing them into the game. It's unforgivable.

They left one Yamamoto piece in and that's the title theme in Budokai 1 during each cutscene.
My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada

I find this a bit odd because the gamerip music that was done included Budokai 3 OP Instrumental, and people who rip the music from the games don't just stick in a track that wasn't there originally. Perhaps it's an unused music track, I guess.Attitudefan wrote:They left one Yamamoto piece in and that's the title theme in Budokai 1 during each cutscene.

Nothing compares to the original soundtrack, it was my childhood. I can get over nostalgia, but the poor mixing of the borrowed soundtrack ruins the HD collection for me. I'll just go buy Budokai 3.

It is for me. The music itself isn't too bad, but nothing can replace that feeling I got, sitting down, being 13, playing Budokai 3 jamming to Yamamoto. Not a damn thing.

Re: Is the music in Budokai 3: HD a lot worse than the origi
It's not that it's bad, it's just that the music isn't very memorable. I still know every song in the original to this day, but the HD collection doesn't have the same effect at all. Just playing Budokai 3 in HD was enough to warrant a purchase for me though.
Re: Is the music in Budokai 3: HD a lot worse than the origi
From what I've heard on gameplay videos on YouTube, I think the only track that sounds obviously unfitting is the recap theme. It's too happy sounding for some recaps like the one in which Chaozu sacrifices himself.

Yeah that especially annoyed me, why is there happy music for when good people die.kei17 wrote:From what I've heard on gameplay videos on YouTube, I think the only track that sounds obviously unfitting is the recap theme. There`s only two real examples of bad placement, at least in my opinion, and those are the Dragon Universe Main Menu theme, and the recap theme.

Yes. Budokai 3's soundtrack, while ripped off like all hell, was fucking awesome. Same goes for the first game.
The replacement score is generic ass doo-doo. Nuff' said.
