If Majin Buu Kai animation were like on DBZ UT?
That would definitely be a really nice surprise and unexpected, because I'm thinking they'll just use the old footage from the original DBZ anime series and that might not be so pleasant to watch in HD, unless done properly.
The cinematic music from the 30min cutscenes was also great, by Hiroshi Takaki, right? Hope Toei Animation makes this the best part of Kai (after Androids/Cell because Freeza's saga had excellent PQ/AQ/MP).

The fact that the product isn't even being made primarily for its own home country should be a huge hint that they're going to go the cheapest route they can possibly go. Why on Earth would you expect the remainder of the story to be re-animated, rather than done exactly as it was done before, likely with even less reanimated/cleaned-up shots than before?

It'd be cool in theory and probably how Kai should've been done in the first place, but it will be the old school animation. Reaninating fully sounds like effort and my impression of Toei is they like to take the laziest, quickest route.
Maybe in a few years we'll get a brand new version of it that starts from the original DB and goes through Z and follows the manga even better than Kai did. But, it's Toei, so we probably will never get a proper re-done series, rather than a cut/paste effort like Kai. I love Kai for what it is, but the prospect of a full on redone, reanimated, redubbed series would've been more exciting.

I can't be the only person who absolutely loathes the glossy, super-shiny look of newer Toei animation. It's not that it's colored digitally, the shading techniques etc. just always strike me as odd. So, I probably wouldn't enjoy it. At least, not any more or less than a Kai that reuses the available footage.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Making the Buu saga in that quality would be too time consuming and costly. Like Vegito said, they"ll go the cheapest route. So expect Kai quality animations for the Buu saga.

I hate the new look, at least for Dragonball. Their best animation doesn't compare to the best animation they used back in the late 80s. I mean, Maeda's team had some of the most gorgeous looking episodes I have ever seen in many animations. I think it looks better than the rotoscoped Disney animation in some respects. Damn, it looks nice. The new animation doesn't have 'that'. And it looks nothing like Toriyama's manga.bkev wrote:I can't be the only person who absolutely loathes the glossy, super-shiny look of newer Toei animation. My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada

I fully agree with this. I also feel that it might have to do with the character design a bit more so that animation techniques. There's something about the old designs that Yamamuro had put out in the TV series that outshines the work he tends to do today. It's like the proportions in the character designs he does today are not as proper, and have a certain roundness to the face and eyes that comes off as a little unappealing. The line detail seems to be a bit simpler as well and comes off way too digital as opposed to the hand drawn look of the 90's. It's just how Toei animation animates all of their shows nowadays though since I feel One Piece suffers from the same issue. Maybe it seems, I don't know, cheap looking? I feel like a fan flash-animation can put out almost the same look for the characters if done properly.Attitudefan wrote:I hate the new look, at least for Dragonball. Re: If Majin Buu Kai animation were like on DBZ UT?
I will always point out that in Mystical Adventure, the scene where Goku and Arale fight Tao is so well animated, and the art has a beautiful depth to it, it is just gorgeous. It has a style and flair to it that I can't quite put my finger on, but it is there.
Actually, what's interesting is that Ide Takao's designs and animation look almost identical to Maeda (in episode 138). He had the great animation that was fluid and drew the characters with a more rounded style without the weird noses that are present in the same arc. Actually, it was refreshing. It had something that was starting to get lost in Dragon Ball. The detailed faces and fluid animation but being exactly like Toriyama's best art. Actually, it was great to compare to Yamamuo which drew thick bodies and very angular. Interestingly, Yamamuro's art has strayed far from this and Toriyama's art which is a huge shame. I hope the art and animation in the movie or in any new animation looks good.

The whole series should be like that. It would be annoyingly inconsistent if they just now started doing it with the Buu saga.
Vegeta: "Funny... I seem to recall Kakarot being fed the same information right before he transformed; the distinct look on your faces when he went Super Saiyan didn't exactly inspire confidence. One does not predict or calculate power like ours."
