Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods"

Like JulieYBM said, in the movie itself Beers describes Whis as his attendant (tsukibito, same word used for Popo and Kibito) as well as his (martial arts) teacher. At the end of the movie, Whis asks Goku if he'd like to be the next God of Destruction after Beers dies; Goku turns him down. So it seems that his role is rather similiar to Popo's role as attendant to the Gods of Earth (sensibly enough, given the shared title), in that he apparently oversees and trains successive Gods of Destruction.

It might indeed be an exaggeration of how cats tend to sleep so much. That or it helps him live longer. Or he just gets bored easily. Or all of the above, I suppose.

Dammit, I don't read the thread for a couple of days, and then I have to catch up on 30 pages of posts

I was excited when the possibility was brought up that the name puns might be based off cat food brands, since that seems like the sort of thing I'd totally expect from Toriyama. That's my favorite explanation so far and I was ready to start using spellings based on those puns...until a couple pages later when that pun source was debunked Oh, well! It's interesting that Watanabe mentioned he came up with Birusu and Toriyama thought of Uisu. I wonder if it means that the puns are based on unrelated words? Or, once again, it comes back to the virus pun for both. I'm getting bored with that explanation, and I wish it'd just be confirmed already so I can stop wondering about any other possibilities!

Those sketches of the dancing Vegeta are amazing. Oh my god, was Vegeta secretly practicing to become a member of the Ginyu Special Forces? The facial expression sketches are hilarious; you'd never imagine Vegeta making faces like that, but this movie is making it happen! And he's so cute standing there waiting on Birusu with a bottle of wine! Gah, Vegeta fangirl bait overload!

Glad to hear that the summary is coming soon. I was sort of expecting that they might wait until the movie's official release date on the 30th to put it up (or, even better: wait until April 1st and put up a fake summary for April Fool's Day...would they be so cruel to us? )

Question about the label underneath dancing Vegeta; I'm reading it as "purple pose", is that correct? If so, what's a "purple pose"? Is it like (or a pun on) "purple prose" where the writing style is ostentatiously flourished? :3
I guess Ginyu Force style poses would be the dance equivalent of that.

The hiragana above it doesn't spell out murasaki though (looks like it starts with a shi. Shimau? "Finishing poses?" I guess they could be Ginyu Force finishing poses.) so maybe it's just too blurry for me to really know.

Well, Popo was a bit stronger than Kami so I don't think it is impossible.

I'm simultaneously anxious and excited that they're keeping the "Vegeta entertains Birusu" portion out of the trailers and ads; makes me want to see it even more.

What does everyone think of the CG in this film? Do you think it blends in well with the more traditional animation or do you think it sticks out in a really bad way?
