Or rather Bardock seeing the error of his Saiyan ways.
Could you refresh my memory about what I was talking about?
VyeRo wrote:matt0044 wrote:Or rather Bardock seeing the error of his Saiyan ways.
Where did this come from anyway? It's been awhile since I've seen the movie, but I don't remember Bardock ever feeling guilty for being a saiyan, or that he became 'good' in the end.
It was in the dub.

You know the entire DB fanbase reminds me of that "They're Savages" song from Pocahontas. While we're going on about how bad the people who insist the Japanese version sucks are they're saying the same about us. You could also apply it to "Ocean vs Funimation" and "Kai vs Z".

You can apply to just about anything, really. The "Us vs them" mentality seems to be human nature.

But it seems to REALLY stick out in the DB fandom.

It does, and for what reason I can't say. But the basic "us vs them" stuff doesn't surprise me.

You can say that for any fanbase. You should see how the Godzilla fanbase is like on the web

As a big Godzilla fan...I'm afraid to ask. What's it like? What could they possibly argue over? not trying to go off topic just curious.

The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

Eh, I've seen it just as, if not more, hostile and glaring in other fanbases/communities. Classic Sonic vs Modern Sonic, Metallica vs Megadeth, console wars, etc.

Can you explain a bit more? What did he say exactly? Sorry for all the questions, but it's been a long time since I've seen it and I don't have a copy of the movie.

People like Greatsaiyaman 777 and the other nutcases that were apart of DBZOA and the other websites at the time are the only portion of the American fanbase that I don't like and unfortunately, fans of that nature still exist, not just with DBZ but for anime in general. The super extreme hardcore Japanese anime fans that hate every aspect of dubs simply because it's "not the original".

That's how fans of Japanese franchises are often like. I seen Super Sentai fans that hate Power Rangers for not being faithful to the Sentai shows.

Alright, in the JPN version, Bardock envisions his son's future adventures and how Freeza destroys Planet Vegeta so he goes to change the inevitable fate.
In the dub, that not only happens but Bardock also sees how Freeza was using them to kill and how it was wrong. Hell, his final words to baby Goku weren't to avenge the Saiyans but to thank him for showing him the way.
Hope that helps.

Show them Power Rangers Samurai (it sticks to Shinkenger but not in a good way). Plus, I find the deviations in PR from SS to be interesting like with RPM and Go-onger.

Pockets of the fanbase annoy me, such as the Psaros and DBZOA of the world. I think they felt they held more power than they truely did. I'm fine with criticizing stuff, but their editorial style was obnoxious and childish.
The biggest truths aren't original. The truth is ketchup. It's Jim Belushi. Its job isn't to blow our minds. It's to be within reach.

I don't like it because it seems to sugarcoat the whole thing (if that's the right term).

I agree. The Saiyans were evil, how hard is that to accept?

The fact that there' so much arguing among the DB fanbase actually just shows how strongly we all feel about our respective favourite versions and in turn shows how much we all really love Dragonball. It's better to have a fanbase full of people willing to tear eachothers throats out for the good of the show than it is to have a small boring fanbase with fans that lack passion. Despite all our disagreeing and bickering we can all honestly say we have our passion for Dragonball in common.
