I'm a fan of all sorts of liscences, whether they be anime, film, video games or comic related. Vader, Batman, Ryu and Goku FTW! :D

To me, Dragon Ball is the Star Wars of the anime world.

A timeless saga that will always prosper. There is just so much lore and such great characters. It really is the flagship of modern staple anime series.

I was a big anime fan back in the 90's and early 00. But good series were harder and harder to come by in my opinion.

The last complete series I watched was SAO, because everyone was talking about it and my curiosity got the best of me. It was pretty decent up until mid season when... if you have seen the series, you know what I'm talking about....

Before that the only other anime series I watched whole was Tengen Toppa Gurren Laggan.

Before that... Chrno Crusade and Full Metal Alchemist (the first series).

I stopped watching Naruto because the amount of filler is what I like to refer as "the Anime's Ninth Circle of Hell". I'm just following the manga now to see how it ends (for once!).
Check out Journey's End, a short story of Goku and Vegeta's final days. "Time is running out for the last two Saiyans"

I'm actually amongst the few that still kinda prefers the first series. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the manga/Brotherhood, but it feels more...I dunno, stereotypically shonen to me. And I enjoy 'stereotypical shonen' quite a bit, but my love of FMA started with that original series and how much more it shook things up in that regard.

Well yeah, if you came to Brotherhood first, I can almost guarantee there's some things in the original that you won't like haha. And I can't deny that since I came to the original anime first, before even the manga, that my own opinion is colored likewise. It all depends on preference and what one comes to first really.

Yeah! Well, except for how slowly the author produces it... I honestly doubt he'll ever finish it. But despite that, I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good shonen series.

I love Yu Yu Hakusho and I think that manga is damn superior, how it starts as ghost story and evolves into fighting series with demons.

I already watched Yu Yu Hakusho over a decade ago. I've seen JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Toriko doesn't seem the least bit appealing to me... isn't it new or something? Eh, I have absolutely no desire to get into any anime, really.

Japan has other good shows outside of Anime. There is a lot of good tokusatsu movies and shows. I'm a pretty much a fan of Japanese culture in general since I like Japanese stuff outside of anime. I feel like not many people watch other Japanese entertainment outside of anime from what I've seen.

As far as I know, the author of HunterxHunter has a chronic illness that makes it very difficult for him to draw each chapter in time.

It's so underrated outside Japan -_- i mean .. it's fantastic, everything about this manga is just so perfect. the characters, the adventure, the plot, the art. i almost love it as much as DB -almot -
in term of quality i think it's the best long Shonen manga out there!
I agree. It definitly is a wonderful manga! :D

It's basically the same for me (I can still recall the first time I ever saw FMA), but I still say that the first anime has a lot of merit in its own right. I feel Brotherhood and the manga are superior in terms of storytelling, but the first anime has a lot more thematic depth. If that makes any sense. The characters are split between the two for me, though. I like Lust and Sloth, and the general backstory behind the Homunculi better in the first anime, but prefer Mustang, Wrath, Pride, and Hawkeye as they are in the manga. Oh, and Michiru Oshima's score for the first anime is better than the score in Brotherhood.

Anyways, as for the topic... I don't consider myself a serious anime fan, but if I happen to like an anime, then I'll watch it. If I really like it, I'll buy it. I can name a good handful of anime that I truly enjoy.

I get what you're saying. There are things I have no interest in trying out, too--and that doesn't even necessarily mean that I don't think I'd like them if I gave them the chance. Of course, I think lumping all Japanese animation together isn't good no matter which way someone's doing it (e.g. "I like all anime," or "I dislike all anime"). Not saying that's what you're doing, of course!
soulnova wrote:As far as I know, the author of HunterxHunter has a chronic illness that makes it very difficult for him to draw each chapter in time.
He did have health problems a while back, and was even in hospital for them at one point if I remember right. I have no idea how he's doing these days. I'm not trying to give him a hard time for his slowness or anything, though; I'm just saying that people getting into Hunter x Hunter should probably know that it's still ongoing, it goes on hiatus a lot, and that one arc may take nearly a decade to conclude.

But it's still completely worth reading/watching. The new series is free on crunchyroll, too.

I know a lot who do, but in comparison to the number who only watching Japanese animation, I suppose that's true.

Only Shonen I've enjoyed besides Dragon Ball is probably the Naruto series.
As for general anime, i'm not really a fan of it either. There is one anime I do love though, Death Note. You should check it out if you're into supernatural and psychological thrillers, it's only 37 episodes.

Dragon Ball is the best. I am definitely a bigger Dragon Ball fan than I am of all anime. My #1 besides Dragon Ball is One Piece and now I am absolutely in love with it. One of the greatest stories ever told in it's format, imo.

Epic adventures are what I like. These long series with intriguing characters and vast entertainment throughout are part of what I live for. I was young when I first discovered Dragon Ball , and anime in general. Toonami, like most of us here in the states, was where I first saw it. Basically, the anime/manga I am now a fan of are those that were shown on Toonami and Adult Swim. Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Full Metal Alchemist, and Bleach from Adult Swim, and then for Toonami: Yu Yu Hakusho, Rurouni Kenshin, Tenchi Muyo!, and Outlaw Star. I either own these epic anime/manga series completely or plan on purchasing them one way or another.

About 6 years ago, Bleach was on Adult Swim. I didn't know anything about it, I just liked it, and at the time it showed every weekday and saturday night. Then I started to delve deeper into the author, and thus I learned of Dragon Ball's profound influence on not only Bleach, but all manga and anime since. (It seamed obvious after wards of course, :D. )

The forums I later joined showed me the Naruto and One Piece fandoms. Once I decided to buy and read all of One Piece, I never looked back. One of the greatest decisions I made,.
