Re: Would FUNimation Include The 2008 Special In The Buu Sag
If I hated Funimation so much, I wouldn't have dozens of their products. I just find DVD "extras" to be amusingly bad at times. Even Japanese extras, like Seiji Mizushima eating during his Conqueror of Shamballa commentary and Romi Paku saying she sympathizes with Nazi Germany.

I don't think people would be nearly as annoyed if this was how you expressed yourself, a lot of times you come off as petulant. I wouldn't be as bothered by some of the extras if we got more of them. The occasional dud is acceptable, but if we don't get but a few and the few we do get aren't up to snuff it can be frustrating.penguintruth wrote:If I hated Funimation so much, I wouldn't have dozens of their products. Sympathizing with Nazi Germany, what the hell?
As to the thread's question, I don't think so.

I'm probably oversimplifying for comedic effect. She said she felt bad for the Germans in the movie going through the turmoil of post-WWI life, living in a defeated nation with its high inflation, poverty, and destroyed national pride. But it was what led to Nazi takeover. It's just the way it came out made it seem like she was sympathizing with the characters who were overtly racist and becoming Nazis, which is a funnier interpretation.
Another interview reveals Paku and Rie Kugimiya flirting, but it's probably just joking, given their chuckling.
My point is that extras can be a bit bizarre. Especially when you get commentary tracks where they're not even commenting on the events occurring in the movie. Or they do, but they have nothing to say. And most companies still consider trailers to be extras.

If a disc actually comes with any sort of commentary then I consider that a pretty decent extra in itself. I guess textless OPs/EDs can count too. But it is silly when they bother to make an "Extras" menu on the disc just to show trailers.

I actually think it isn't really worth dubbing, the only thing I think would be worth dubbing would be BOG.

As long as the comments are interesting, it's better than hearing the commentors describing what's on screen, or long periods of silence. Arnold's commentary on Total Recall is literally him just describing what's on screen.penguintruth wrote:My point is that extras can be a bit bizarre. Justin Cook is really interesting and informative during commentaries. I know I sound like a broken record, but it's true. Plus, people like Ayres, Schemmel, Sabat, Strait and McFarland are funny and interesting during q and a's at conventions. I don't know if they can be as candid in the commentaries, but I think they would be great for interviews and commentaries.
On the one of the GT singles, there's a 15-20 minute interview with Sabat, Schemmel and Vale where they talked about video games and voice acting. I found it enjoyable.

I'm fine as long as the commentary is fun to listen to. It reminds me of the Evangelion fans getting mad because the commentary wasn't Spike Spenser: "Eva is the greatest show ever made, wouldn't you agree?" Tiffany Grant: "Yes I would." Amanda Winn Lee: "We should stop talking, we are not worthy to do commentary on Lord Anno's masterpiece."

It just seems so odd that over the course of 606 episodes, 3 TV specials, and 17 movies, that we got a little over an hour's worth of extras. One Piece got something like 1 commentary per disc. I don't know if they were interesting but at least it's something.

In one of the commentaries for One Piece (Maybe more?), they reveal the story of how they got Oda's approval for their voice actors for the characters.ABED wrote:It just seems so odd that over the course of 606 episodes, 3 TV specials, and 17 movies, that we got a little over an hour's worth of extras. As for Dragon Ball, I'd love it if we got commentaries that were more on the level with what Hellsing Ultimate gets. Talison Jaffe and Crispin Freeman are quite nice to listen to along with the other actors of their involvement in Hellsing.

99% of dub actors don't watch their shows, so its not exactly a shock their commentaries are lacking. Always have a director around.

True, but that's not the case with Dragon Ball. Sabat and Schemmel are clearly fans of the show and knowledgeable, perhaps not in comparison to many on here, but he's not completely ignorant about the show he works on. Plus, Sabat was the director for much of the series.B wrote:99% of dub actors don't watch their shows, so its not exactly a shock their commentaries are lacking. Always have a director around.

Re: Would FUNimation Include The 2008 Special In The Buu Sag
I get the feeling a lot of One Piece's actors have seen a decent bit of the series, even if they didn't sit down and watch all 500 episodes. You also have people like Eric Vale who's a script writer on the show on top of voicing Sanji, and Macfarland voices Buggy and is the ADR director. Often times you'll get these actors who are involved with the series on various levels and actually know quite a lot. But when you do voice work for dozens of shows and have to take whatever you can get to pay the bills, I don't blame a guy for not watching every anime they do. Plenty of seiyuu don't watch all their shows either, especially since they actually perform their lines before the animation is completed.

I would hope they would do the 2008 special as a bonus.

It'd be cool if they aired it on T.V. But as the others have said, it's up to Shuiesha to make that call.

One Piece will reach 600 episodes in 3 days, and that show is pretty hilarious at times.Ryuji-Otogi wrote:I get the feeling a lot of One Piece's actors have seen a decent bit of the series, even if they didn't sit down and watch all 500 episodes. I've always felt the actor should at least get to know the character before trying to give him or her a voice.
