When Hal Jordan was the Spectre, he was essentially omnipotent. And as Parallax he almost restarted the universe. I don't think he's that much stronger than any of the other Green Lanterns now though, although Blackest Night and Brightest Day might have changed that. I'm a little behind on my DC lore (much more of a Marvel fan )

In my opinion, the only comic book writer who could ever pull off an omnipotent character was Jim Starlin. Infinity Gauntlet is my favorite to this day, and it shows what happens when all the superheroes gang up on God. They get slaughtered.

I don't have a problem with the Chaos Emeralds or the Chaos Force myself. The Chaos Force basically what reality is composed of and whomever has the greatest control can control reality on a Multiversal scale. The Chaos Emeralds are the keys to it's power. Yeah it's a little strange that such a force exists in Sonic but it makes sense in the context of the Sonic Multiverse

Strongest/most powerful gets used a bit to much in a lot of fictions. Was Freeza really the strongest in the Universe before Goku became a Super Saiyan? No, there was stronger, especially if you count everything outside the manga. Is Magneto the strongest mutant in Marvel? They sure say he is a lot but really he isn't even close. And depending on what versions we're talking about there are some pretty powerful people living on Earth in DC. Like I think they called Superman the strongest force on Earth a couple of times in the Justice League/Justice League Unlimited cartoons but Amazo flat out stomped him (and basically every other good guy on Earth) and Doctor Fate is a supreme magic user so I would think he could cause some problems (I'm sure some versions of him could definitely beat Superman).

Who at DC? No one at DC has the authority to say anything like that and make it true for the entire DC universe. This isn't like Dragonball, where there is only one writer. Superman's writer saying that he is the most powerful on Earth means nothing. Especially when, for the first 5 years of the 2000's you had omnipotent Hal Jordan walking around, Captain Marvel and the Martian Manhunter have both been stated, by Superman, to be more powerful than he is, Black Adam, Necron, Dr. Fate, Zatanna, Doomsday,....there are numerous beings with power surpassing Superman's.

You gotta remember that DC and Marvel don't operate on the same linear power scale that Dragon Ball does. "X > Y" has a lot less significance because so many things are situational and dependent on who is actually involved. If you have an ordinary human who's sole power is a spell that turns someone into a pomeranian then despite Superman being like a bazillion times stronger he'll probably "lose" in that initial confrontation. So when someone says Superman is the most powerful person on Earth you have to ask what they're actually measuring. There are certain categories in which Superman does likely qualify as most powerful. But being "most powerful" doesn't equate to "can win any confrontation with any person on Earth every single time."

Why? The Chaos Force is what reality is comprised of in Sonic's multiverse. Naturally someone with the ability to control that force can manipulate reality as he sees fit. Sonic isn't even trying to be overpowered, they are just being more or less realistic with the ability to control what what comprises reality. And unlike a lot of these characters, he doesn't pull some new ability or super power out of his ass. The ability to control reality was set up toward the beginning of the comic.
