"Jaco the Galactic Patrolman" discussion (incl. "DB Minus")
Re: "Jaco the Galactic Patrolman" discussion thread (DB–11?)
Do you think the Chozenshuu 2 thing: "A sort of “mission statement” about the new section, about how the Dragon World is ever-expanding, and there have been new stories yet untold, featuring powerful enemies descending to Earth, and battles for the fate of planets in far-off space. The new world of Dragon Ball will continue to unfold…” was about Jaco the Galactic Patrolman?
because Jaco cames grom far-off space and talks about powerful enemies coming to Earth...
But, in this case, I will be a little bit disappointed (even if Jaco seems a cool manga) because I would like to see "Battle of Gods"'s sequels and a prequel without Z fighters.
If we can have both, it will be great

Re: "Jaco the Galactic Patrolman" discussion thread (DB–11?)
Just read this myself the other day, and so far it's definitely interesting. I'm excited to see where it goes from here, and to see how it connects to Dragon Ball. I'm on board with the theory that it's going to have baby Goku (and maybe even Grandpa Gohan) at the end.

Re: "Jaco the Galactic Patrolman" discussion thread (DB–11?)
I believe they are going to meet with goku in the next chapter, since at the bottom it says Jako and Ommari meet an unexpected person.
. NO I believe Akira Toriyama wants to keep the new dragon ball z battle of gods a secret.
"There are many types of monsters that scare me: Monsters who cause troubles without showing themselves, monsters who abduct children, monsters who devour dreams, monsters who suck blood… and then, monsters who tell nothing but lies. Lying monsters are a real nuisance: They are much more cunning than others: They pose as humans even though they have no understanding of the human heart; they eat even though they’ve never experienced hunger; they study even though they have no interest in academics; they seek friendship even though they do not know how to love. If I were to encounter such monsters, I would likely be eaten by them… because in truth, I am that monster."

I think the "unexpected person" is the blonde girl shown on promo. She hasn't appeared yet, but her appearance on promo implies she's an important character, so she'll probably appear early in the series (chapter 2). Also, the trio old man, hero, girl seems to fit Toriyama's recent choices for a group of a main protagonists.enjyu123 wrote:I believe they are going to meet with goku in the next chapter, since at the bottom it says Jako and Ommari meet an unexpected person.
And the old man, he looks like a fusion between the Sand Land characters Thief and Rao:

My current theory for cool-hat girl is that she's the idol singer from the first chapter.
If she took her hair ties out they'd look a lot alike.

I'm 100% sure that it's her.Chuquita wrote:My current theory for cool-hat girl is that she's the idol singer from the first chapter.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Yeah I don't know why would anyone think it's not her. It looks obvious.DBZGTKOSDH wrote:I'm 100% sure that it's her.Chuquita wrote:My current theory for cool-hat girl is that she's the idol singer from the first chapter.

How terrible would it be if it were yet another absurd Bardok tie in?!
Jaco looks a lot like Freeza to me I could see somehow him being a member of their race as well. I like all this wild speculation.

Re: "Jaco the Galactic Patrolman" discussion thread (DB–11?)
Kind of interesting that cool-hat girl's got a first and last name, as that doesn't happen so often in DB. I'm guessing that Ann is supposed to be short for Anko because that would complete the pun better (azuki's a type of bean, anko is bean paste. In Tamako Market there's a character named Anko who goes by the nickname An so maybe that's the case here). I didn't see any last name mentioned for Omori though.

I just read on the main page that this is going to be the "revival of Dragon Ball"...so is this manga supposed to lead into a new Dragon Ball series? And this is the last manga Toriyama will be doing "completely by himself", so maybe when it turns into Dragon Ball Naho Ooishi will take over, and Toriyama will just supervise?

Omori is his last name though, because as determined on the last page of this thread his wife's name as seen on her gravestone was "Omori Mamako". (Or "Mamako Omori" in Western order.)Chuquita wrote:I didn't see any last name mentioned for Omori though.

Re: "Jaco the Galactic Patrolman" discussion thread (DB–11?)
I kind of doubt that in a way. I figure 'revival' just meant temporarily, rather than a brand new on-going series (other than SD...that is still going, right?).UpFromTheSkies wrote:I just read on the main page that this is going to be the "revival of Dragon Ball"...so is this manga supposed to lead into a new Dragon Ball series? And as far as the last names where they don't usually have last names thing...huh. That is a little different. Is it possible that Toriyama just forgot? Or maybe Shueisha insisted the characters have first and last names in it, since that's more the norm?

That stuck in my mind as well. It's certainly an odd way of putting it for something that could only maybe have a small connection to Dragon Ball (Especially since many theorise that it will only lead into the beginning of the series). Also, with Battle of Gods and whatnot, it's hardly like this is the first Dragon Ball related thing in a while. That said, things can get very played up by Jump and we'll just have to see where this goes.UpFromTheSkies wrote:I just read on the main page that this is going to be the "revival of Dragon Ball"...so is this manga supposed to lead into a new Dragon Ball series?

I agree. To me, the word "revival" suggests the series is going to make a full come back. I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens, but I have my fingers crossed for a new series with Toriyama involved somehow.Ryuman wrote:That stuck in my mind as well. The word fukkatsu ("rebirth/revival/resurrection") was also used back in 2002 to promote what was unknown at the time, but would end up being the kanzenban release.
Don't get your hopes up beyond just Jaco.

I'll be getting my hopes up that it's actually nothing for the sake of you guys. God knows you don't need something like Battle of Gods again. Julian would probably have a heart attack.VegettoEX wrote:Don't get your hopes up beyond just Jaco.

The TOC for Weekly Jump 34: http://www.imagebam.com/image/f1fd04265864688
I didn't realize before that we'll get weekly mini-notes from Toriyama in Jump the way the rest of Jump's authors have an author's note each week.

Re: "Jaco the Galactic Patrolman" discussion thread (DB–11?)
I was just re-reading Jaco, and it got me thinking, maybe the alien Jaco came to Earth to stop is Goku, but he doesn't find Goku until after he has hit his head. After using alien technology to perform a scan of Goku's mind, Jaco determines that Goku is not like other saiyans, and that he will end up saving the people of Earth one day instead of destroying them. Jaco tells baby Goku that he will return one day when he is grown, and invite him to join the Galactic Patrol. Fast forward to sometime after Dragon Ball Z, Jaco shows up asking Goku and company to join the Galactic Patrol, and so "Galactic Patrol DB" begins.
..or maybe not.
