Which DVD player is cheap and de-interlace signals?

Hey.
Most R1 dvds I have seen, have, in one way or another, interlacing/ghosting problem because they were encoded interlaced.
However,some players de-interlace the dvds in the fly.
The player I got doesnt.
Neither does my Xbox or ps2.
I find it very annoying to see ghosting and interlacing, no matter how little it is interlaced.
Since I got quite a few r1 dvds, id like to buy a cheap and good dvd player that de-interlace so that it will be less "painfull" to watch.

But that's what interlacing is. You don't "not" see it when something's deinterlaced. Deinterlacing blends frames together to create the illustion of 60 fps (29.97 fps, with a frame from each of two fields drawn every second). There's no way you won't have non-interlaced footage unless it's purely progressive.

And hardly anything is. The only real progressive material is a few recent boxsets (such as the Dragon Boxes, EVA Renewel, etc).

Okay, guess I got some details wrong.
Hm, what I ment is a DVD player that doesnt show that kind of "ghosting" thing when the source is strongly interlaced.

If that's what the source looks like, that's what the source looks like... you won't find much that's going to change that.

That said I'd like to recommend Apex Digital's line of DVD Players. I own the 40 dollar and going cheaper AD-1200 Model, which lets you play MP3, MPEG (no special compression needed), JPEG, VCDs, and of course DVDs.

Their newer models have these kind of features too with a similar price, and they perform surprisingly well.

In addition, you can find some with a karaoke feature. And apparently, older models can play EVERY Region of DVD. This of course was neutered for legal reasons, but considering their availability on the market, it shouldn't be hard to grab a nice one.

Also, wouldn't the image come out interlaced anyway, since that's what TVs are? Unless you have a progressive scan TV, but who has one of them? No-one ever.

And how on earth can you have "strongly interlaced"? It either is, or it isn't. It's a way of increasing the apparent resolution of an image. You can't get "strongly interlaced" anymore than you could get a DVD that's "strongly 100 hz".

There is nothing illegal about buying DVD players from another country. It is purely something created by the film industry so that they can stagger releases and conserve money.

And lots of DVD players still have the region coding, just "hidden" away. Do an internet search, and you'll often find lists of remote codes and the like that make DVD players multi-region. They won't let you play PAL DVDs (unless you have a PAL-compatible TV), but you'll still be able to play NTSC foreign DVDs. Which pretty much means Japan.

Well there were apparently lawsuits, because their player had the hidden methods you refer to.

The MPAA is just a lot harsher in the United States, but you're right. It isn't hard to play multi-region DVDs.

Who's player? It's not just one or two, it's a large percentage of them.

And I don't get how it can be illegal. That makes as much sense as saying that buying clothes from France and wearing them in the US is illegal.

Seeing as to how this topic has turned somewhat to the topic of PAL/NTSC, hopefully someone can explain this to me better:

I recently imported the Dragon Ball Collection 1 from Madman Entertainment, I had intentions of only using it for my DVD-ROM as I was under the belief that being a PAL release it would not display properly on my TV without use of a converter of some sort.

However the discs played perfectly for me today when I used them on my normal DVD player (region free, as the result of a button code), why would this be the case?

Is it possible for a disc to be both NTSC/PAL compatible? Sorry for the questions added, I'm just genuinely confused.

I wouldn't think so. There is a chance that you have a PAL-compatible TV. It's fairly commonplace for PAL TVs to also be NTSC compatible, especially if they're less than 5 years old. I didn't think that was true the other way around, but I suppose it's possible. How old is your TV? Is it an expensive one?

And, er, where do you live?

I live in the USA (Pennsylvania), my TV is about a year and a half old, and was not a particularly expensive model. I guess what your saying is probably the case, perhaps more recent TV's even in this market are PAL compatible.

It's because Liam and I go waaaaayyy back to when we used to hunt Pop Idol fangirls around London.
