Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
Actually, I'm kind of wondering if the point was that sheer power just can't defeat Buu, and Vegetto had to use the kiai 'technique' to kill him.

If that was the case, Salagir didn't communicate that very well, nor does that really make a lot of sense when even Goku was able to kill Kid Buu without such a thing.

...which doesn't make sense, since Buu fears for his life multiple times and nearly dies multiple times (unless the characters were all stupid and Buu was just going along with it for the lulz) and Pure Buu was actually beating Mr. Buu to death.Rocketman wrote:Actually, I'm kind of wondering if the point was that sheer power just can't defeat Buu, and Vegetto had to use the kiai 'technique' to kill him.
I still don't get this technique. Wouldn't a Kiai just push Buu? Why does Vegetto just automatically know this after he's born? And most importantly, why does it seemingly allow a fighter to hit waaaaaaaaaaay out of their weight class?

Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
No, the Kiai technique is just the most effective method. Buu can regenerate even from ashes and the way this technique works nothing is left. All other attacks would have to compensate in exceeding power to make sure nothing would be left. Vegetto could have killed Buu any way he wanted to, but why not use the most effective thing?Rocketman wrote:Actually, I'm kind of wondering if the point was that sheer power just can't defeat Buu, and Vegetto had to use the kiai 'technique' to kill him.

I have a feeling that this is what Salagir believes. Not only because of this special, but also because of this:Rocketman wrote:Actually, I'm kind of wondering if the point was that sheer power just can't defeat Buu, and Vegetto had to use the kiai 'technique' to kill him.

But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.
Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
Its easy to understand it... That kind of technique has a high degree of effectiveness in disintegrating Buu's body into less than ash and thus killing him. However, that's not the only thing that can kill him as proven by the fact that Kid Buu was killed by the Genki Dama.
Thus, Buu can be killed in a great number of ways, but without the effectiveness of that Kiai technique, an attack must have such power that it completely overwhelms Buu's power and body, which is pretty hard to do unless Buu's opponent is much stronger than he is.
Vegetto could have destroyed Gohan-Buu or Kid Buu in a great number of ways since he was much stronger than either of them, but he just chose the most effective method of killing him when he went for the kill, which shows us just how serious he was about killing him.
Therefore, Bra is only dangerous to him thanks to that technique and its effectiveness in destroying Buu's body. That is why he was surprised and why he stated that she had the means to destroy him (if he wasn't careful, of course).
If she didn't have that technique, she wouldn't be a possible threat to Zen Buu since she is weaker than Zen Buu, and thus she wouldn't be able to launch another kind of attack capable of overwhelming Zen Buu.

No he is alive can't you see that spec in the middle of the panel or is that a piece of dirt.
"There are many types of monsters that scare me: Monsters who cause troubles without showing themselves, monsters who abduct children, monsters who devour dreams, monsters who suck blood… and then, monsters who tell nothing but lies. Lying monsters are a real nuisance: They are much more cunning than others: They pose as humans even though they have no understanding of the human heart; they eat even though they’ve never experienced hunger; they study even though they have no interest in academics; they seek friendship even though they do not know how to love. If I were to encounter such monsters, I would likely be eaten by them… because in truth, I am that monster."

Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
You know, I just noticed something. Is it just me, or is Multiverse really inefficient in how large it's panels are in order to display action? Because with that DBZ Manga scan that someone posted, Mr. Toriyama actually packed way more on just one page than Multiverse usually does, in which they only have something like 4-5 panels per page...
Has anyone noticed this? Looking at it now, it's actually shocking just how much Mr. Toriyama managed to pack into just one page, isn't it?

Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
It's 8 panels, that's not even that much in comparison to many pages. While DBM indeed tends to give us less panels per page, I believe Toriyama started pushing many panels per pages later in the series, perhaps by wanting to finish DB quicker. Not saying that there weren't many panels in some pages in earlier arcs of DB, just less frequent. (And I may be talking out of my ass, it's just how I remember it.)Fionordequester wrote:You know, I just noticed something. Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
Nope. Its quite the opposite actually. DBM tries to tell everything we need to know in as few panels as possible while trying to not waste many pages of the main story (the specials exist only to buy time for the main story). This is so because its a free fan manga. The authors don't get paid and they don't have that much time to work on it and to draw it. In contrast, the original Dragon Ball manga had a lot more freedom and could easily include more character reactions and more dramatic a big panels, and it did.Fionordequester wrote:You know, I just noticed something. I'm tempted to say that the following fusion would be "Bichi".

I thought that as well until a page showed up on the main storyline with the Kaioshins and Gohan saying that the earrings only work with the Kaioshins and that the Old Kaioshin enchanted them to work with Goku.
