GT Ending

Post by PrinceVegetto » Mon Sep 02, 2013 2:46 pm

I know many fans don't think much of GT. But what about its touching ending? The ending is in my opinion amazing and really memorable, seeing a montage from DragonBall to DragonBall GT, and a new generation of fighters thanks to Goku's and Vegeta's legacy. Do you like the ending GT gave to the DragonBall franchise? Also, do you think it was cool for Goku to go away with Shenron, or would you have preferred if he returned to a normal life with his family after so many years?

Most people think the ending is the best part of GT and that the ending is better than Z''s. I agree with that. Though I still think DragonbALL had the best ending/

As the final story of Son Goku and his adventures to be told, the ending to GT was fantastic in my view. Really heart-warming and nostalgic.

I love the ending. Makes me sad to see Goku leave.

This isn't the in-universe thread so I can make out of universe jokes. He returns to star in a DBZ movie.

Yeah, it's a perfect mixture of nostalgia, mystery and intrigue. I usually watch the TV special at the same time as #64 and it makes it somewhat more powerful..
It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.

Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.

The ending is just fantastic. Intelligent, very well written and so well put together, it just conjures the most intense emotions when you watch it after a huge marathon of the franchise.

It was touching, but it just makes me even more disappointed with how Dragonball GT. Dragonball had to end with that joke?

Hated it, they keep making Goku look like a jerk by leaving his family and friends.

I really liked the ending. And, truth be told, I prefer it over the Z ending. Goku got some proper goodbyes in, at the very least, and we got a peak at the future generation.

For those who don't know, there's actually a really good analysis of the ending over on the site.

"There's a site, too?!"

Though I find it touching every time I see it, it's not because GT's ending is well done, but simply because it's the very end of the long long story of Dragon Ball that I love. I'm unhappy with the episode itself. I think Dragon Ball always should end with Goku's happy smile and his very pure excitement about future battles with stronger guys. However, Goku seems very lifeless and out of character throughout the final episode, and I don't even understand what happened to him. It feels very un-Toriyama-esque and unpleasant. Also, his statue at the Tenkaichi Budokai arena feels unnecessary and gives off a negative vibe to me. He is a hero whom no one knows, but "we" do. I don't like the idea of him being considered as a hero by common people.

I must admit, that the older I'm and watching kid's TV show, I like the Z ending a lot more.
Yeah, GT ending was ''EPIC'' but to a kid's adventure TV show and manga, I love the open ending of Z with message, that there is probably countless adventures going on from now on!
And you can think about them, inventing almost anything that comes to your mind, or kids can play the next adventures with their action figures.
In GT, Goku died or whatever happened to him, so you only think about him and how the characters are sad..... I loved the GT ending since I saw last episode in TV and didn't knew back then that GT is not the ''manga canon'' material,
but damn, to the kid in my heart.... It's pathetic and bad ending, I want the adventure to go on and to never end!

Totally disagree. The entire ending is a thought provoking look at Dragon Ball and its morals and yet it's also a huge celebration of Goku's life and the long journey he took to get to this point. It's much more positive than it is negative.

We walk through near enough every key figure in his life as we realise the sacrifices he's made over the years for the good of the Earth and all the friends he made along the way. It's a celebration not a funeral.

Such celebrations and "reviews of the past" are common at funerals.

I agree completely. I like Z's ending a lot more too. I love the open feeling you get from it. That feeling of not really knowing what's going to happen next, and like you said, imagining the adventures that might happen next.

If you really want to be as pedantic as possible, sure. However, in a generic western view of a funeral, it's generally a somber experience. My point is, GT's ending is not.

I hate that idea because it throws a wet blanket on Kamesen'nin's moving speech. With Goku's passing, it's almost like denying the entire story of Dragon Ball and saying that it was just a dream or something.
