Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
Hey everyone! As a long time fan of DBM I thought I'd add my two cents. In my opinion DBM is one of the most unique fan sequels for Dragonball. I believe Salagir's goal try and bring something new to the table. If you notice most post-DB stories rehash old manga or movie ideas with a slight twist like for example GT which mostly consisted of mixing old ideas together.
Blackstar Dragonballs: Remember the good old times where Goku searched for the Dragonballs as a kid? Well let's turn him back into one and do it again!
Baby: You know Dr. Raichi and how he wanted to eradicate the Saiyans? Well how about this other Tuffle who looks almost exactly like him decides to do the same exact thing! Only this time instead of a machine that absorbs hatred it spreads it to everyone on Earth! To cure everyone from this curse they'll have to use the God Water which is the same thing they used last time the entire populace of Earth was possessed in the Garlic Jr saga. We'll also have another possessed Vegeta vs Goku fight because that never happened before!
Super 17: What if an android fused with another android to form one super android!? No we're not referring to Cell or Super 13! In Hell Gero and Raichi, I mean Myuu, used arrowheads and other makeshift tools to build an evil version of 17! Then all the villains in Hell escape to ravage the Earth like in Fusion Reborn! Goku will go to Hell to fight Frieza and Cell but this time without the help of Pikkon!
AF, NA, and Absolan all use the evil Saiyan trope. I'm not trying to criticize these other stories I'm just saying that Dragonball has exhausted almost every possible storyline. There's a 99% chance that any post-Dragonball story will follow one of these ideas:
-Evil Saiyan attacking the Earth
-New Super Android
-Sealed/dormant monster
-Old villains teaming up or escaping from Hell
-Last members of a near extinct race wanting revenge on the Saiyans
I think another problem is that Toriyama increased the scale of power too quickly. Frieza was said to be the strongest villain in the universe so it would be difficult to retcon that and make up a bunch of other super strong aliens. The idea that Frieza was the strongest (mortal) villain did hold true for most of the series since everyone after him was either an artificial construct (androids, Cell, Buu) or higher god (Kaioshin, Dabura, Bills, Whis). Buu had almost every useful ability a villain could have. He has infinite stamina, magic, near-infinite regeneration, could copy any ability, absorb anyone, etc. The only way to top a villain like Buu is to make up another ancient sealed monster like Hirudegarn or a really high ranking deity like Bills. Salagir probably didn't want to do either one and decided that there wasn't a threat left for the Z fighters in that single universe...so why not look for a challenge in other universes?! That's why I don't really consider DBM a direct sequel but more of an "expansion". It's basically several different what-if fan fics coming together for a tournament that most likely will be interrupted and maybe lead into some other cross-universe storyline.
I do agree with some of the criticism I see on here. I think Bra is annoying, overpowered, and the story would be much better without her. She doesn't add anything interested so we could have used her screen time for more interesting characters. If all goes as planned she'll have to answer to the mighty Gast in the fourth round. I agree that most of the specials were unnecessary because they didn't really tell us anything that we didn't already know. Especially since some specials have been summarized in one novel chapter so no need to have them stretch out for a month in manga form. It would also be nice to see more character interactions like Goku meeting U3 Bardock, U16/U18 talking to U3 King Piccolo, Cell sharing his origin with U8, etc. I understand there are a lot of characters to manage but as the number of contestants declines each round maybe there will be more time for these kinds of interactions.

At last, Neko Majin is showing us his powers.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

OMG! Just make up your mind! Good art, bad art, good art, bad art...
Panel 4 and 7 are very well done. The rest are meh, except for the bad one with Gotenks showing the weird face.
...anyway, this version of Neko is either stronger than the manga version or has trained VERY well since his fight with SSj Goku to live from a SSj Teen Gotenks hit and live...unharmed for that matter. :/

The pose from the double axe-handle comes from Goku's fight with Neko Majin.

Neko Majin Z is a gag manga character, he can't be killed. Give this crossover a read.hulkty wrote:...anyway, this version of Neko is either stronger than the manga version or has trained VERY well since his fight with SSj Goku to live from a SSj Teen Gotenks hit and live...unharmed for that matter. :/

When the art is good, it looks traced. When it's bad, it's likely the author's regular skill level.

Its indeed possible.

Goten and Spoiled Trunks really are almost 30? I completely forget about that, they act like teens.

Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
Some people never really grow out of high school, I guess. I've definitely met people in their early to mid 20s who acted like teenagers (and not even particularly bright teenagers for that matter), so... "almost 30 and still acting like this" isn't really that much of a stretch.
Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
Yeah, nowadays is super common to see men in their late 20s with a young mindset and a young way of acting. Heck, I'm precisely at that age and I'm visiting dragon ball websites and such.

This would have been much better had Neko Majin just used the Multi-Form technique and then fused. Based on the fact that fusion does more than add, it would be quite effective. It would be total Deus Ex Machina bull shit, but hey DBM Broly says hi
.

Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
There's actually nothing in the manga saying that something like that wouldn't work. Someone like Tenshinhan could probably use it. So, that wouldn't be much of a gag, more like a creative use of both techniques.TheMightyOzaru wrote:This would have been much better had Neko Majin just used the Multi-Form technique and then fused.
