DBZ Kai gets to Number 1 on Kix

Post by 90sDBZ » Mon Sep 02, 2013 11:41 am

Good news fellow UK fans. I've checked the ratings for last week and Kai is the number 1 show. This is really good as the ratings on kix are usually dominated by Power Rangers most weeks and this is the first time Kai has actually reached Number 1. I guess moving most of the Power Ranger shows to Kix Power, showing the Android saga of Kai and improving the format of when they air the episodes has helped Kai out a lot. Hopefully this will become a more regular thing when Kix decide to air the rest of the Cell saga.

Wow, so 39,000 TV's tuned into Kix when Kai aired? That's pretty awesome! I really hope we see more DB over here in England, the Orange bricks sold well and now Kai is doing well. *Fingers crossed*

It's looking likely we'll get more. At least on DVD. Season 9 comes out on DVD next month and Manga UK have already confirmed they're doing a complete DBZ series boxset release this winter. And earlier this year I read they were in talks with Toei about licencing the movies. In the past they've even mentioned an interest in DB, GT and Kai too so hopefully we hear something once Season 9 gets released.

It's been pretty amazing to watch my nephew and younger brother get transfixed on the series. Reminds me of when I was a kid. Truth be told I'm just happy that DragonBall is back on UK TV after so long.

Which makes Kai's ratings seen even better, given that it airs on a cable network only available to those who have Sky (which I think is around 60% of the cable market in the UK).

Good news guys. DBZ Kai has only gone and got to number 1 again. This time with 43,000 viewers. :D This is the highest its ever got I'm pretty sure. And the new eps don't even air until later today. Plus it achieved this with Power Rangers on the main channel after Kix power being taken off.

If Kix remains consistent with Nicktoons then it's likely we'll see GT being aired when Kai ends. I mean, the GT season sets are set to come out in the UK in January and March (season 1 and 2 respectively). CSC Media have no reason not to get GT (or Dragon Ball) considering Kai's been such a success for them.

Hopefully. Chances are we'll get it sooner or later seeing as Kix like to air multiple series of things like Power Rangers and Batman. It would probably be the Funi dub too as Kix seem to have a better relationship with Funi than Toonami did back in the day and it would be consistent with the Season sets.

If they do air GT, I wonder if they'll go with English dub + Japanese music or go for the full on butchered version. I would imagine the former to keep consistent with Kai's music themes.

Maybe although that would be a first. As far as I'm aware Funi's GT dub has always aired with the dub score in other countries. I wouldn't really have a huge problem with either to be honest although I would rather them use the intro from the Season sets than Step into the Grand Tour. That would make sense having Vic Mignogna's sing the intros for both Kai and GT. Most likely they'd just be given the US Nicktoons footage like with Kai though.

I'm also wondering if they'll wait for the Buu saga of Kai or just show GT first.

This would be logical, as otherwise the start point of the narrative of GT wouldn't make any sense to people who have watched Kai in sequence - but heck, illogical or not - the fastest (and cheapest) option to air more Dragonball right now is to license GT or Dragonball.

Actually, they should do DB first. If Kix did GT after Kai while Kai Buu isn't finished THEN do Kai Buu when it's done would mix up the whole timeline and would make the the Buu arc to uninformed viewers look like a bonus/lost arc. However, that would be counterintuitive with consideration to the fact that the GT sets come out in the UK in January, but Manga UK were clearly either following Toei's orders or following FUNimation's release pattern when they licensed GT for a home release. Either reason is valid, even if Manga UK as a whole isn't a very good company. I'll elaborate why if asked.

Um okay so why aren't Manga UK a good company? After all they have managed to make the Orange Bricks a huge success in the UK.

They didnt. Its the original hype created by those original broadcasts all those years ago.

True but they've still handled the marketing side of things well enough. I don't see why people have a problem with Manga UK to be honest. No other anime DVD company would even release DBZ here. The only criticism I can really give them is that they waited so long to release it.

Their twitter antics make them look like they're run by Paul Christoforo of Ocean Marketing (look it up), and their releases are often riddled with errors. The orange bricks being a success is because of DBZ being as mainstream as anime will ever get, not because of Manga UK. To be fair, they did release the OBs at a faster rate than FUNi ever did, but then again all the OB footage already existed by the UK release of season 1.

And Kai has got to Number 1 again wit 40,000 viewers. And it took the 2nd, 3rd, 8th and 9th spots too. Not surprising with the Cell Games airing and all.

Brilliant news for Dragonball fans here in the UK! Combining respectable TV ratings (on a cable network that only people with Sky can watch) and the Orange Brick sales, it's pretty clear that remarkably there still remains an appetite for the show after all these years. Hopefully this will encourage other, more widely available, broadcasters to take Dragonball more seriously and license it...
