I believe things like news events only appeared on the airings when the event's were actually going on, for example if the news event happened during a delayed/local airing it would probably be present in the delayed/local airing while other airings like the Fuji airing wouldn't have it or vice versa, if the news event happened during a Fuji airing it would be present in the Fuji airing while the others like delayed/local airing wouldn't have it but I could be wrong about that, maybe Kei could shed some more light on the matter.Daimo-Rukiri wrote:The Japanese broadcast audio had a lot blips of sound effects during news events, I don't know if my tapes are from a delayed airing or not but I do remember news messages.
Were these only present during delayed, and local airings? Or just Fuji TV?

If anyone has any of the DB/DBZ/DBGT or Maho Tsuaki Sally Japanese single DVD's that they'd be interested in selling send me a PM and I'll see if we can work something out.

I'm an ocean away from the tapes, but I guess it makes sense if it's major news it would be on local and major channels.

It could but you have to keep in mind that the local/delayed airings were always a few weeks after the main Fuji airings (TV Yamaguchi for example started airing the series a few weeks after Fuji did) so by the time the local delayed airings got around to broadcasting their new episodes, any major news that was relevant during the Fuji airing might not be relevant anymore.Daimo-Rukiri wrote:I'm an ocean away from the tapes, but I guess it makes sense if it's major news it would be on local and major channels.

The question would be if it'd be easier, more secure, and actually cheaper, to fly there in person rather than sending all those tapes...JulieYBM wrote:I cannot imagine how difficult it is going to be for you to carry all of those tapes to the post office, Kei.

I'd be happy to fly to Japan, pick up the tapes, hang out with Akira Toriyama, and then fly to Texas. Anyone want to foot the bill?sangofe wrote:The question would be if it'd be easier, more secure, and actually cheaper, to fly there in person rather than sending all those tapes...

Trust me, sending all db and dbz on tapes from Japan to USA would be extremely expensive. Probably just as expensive as going there in person... It'd be way more secure, too. Yes, I've backed them up, but they should be professionally done for official releases.qjz123 wrote:I could be wrong but I believe that Kei17 has all of the audio from the original broadcast recordings already backed up losslessly on his computer.
That happened only five or six times I guess. Texts and bleeps were inserted by each broadcaster, so you can get a clear version by collecting tapes recorded off of local TV channels.Daimo-Rukiri wrote:The Japanese broadcast audio had a lot blips of sound effects during news events, I don't know if my tapes are from a delayed airing or not but I do remember news messages.

This is the only instance on Fuji TV that I'm currently aware of:
Recap on DBZ episode 121

More than half of the tapes I'll send are Video8 and the others are Betamax, so I guess it wouldn't be that expensive.sangofe wrote:Trust me, sending all db and dbz on tapes from Japan to USA would be extremely expensive. Probably just as expensive as going there in person...

Re: The Harmony Gold Dub & Broadcast Audio Discussion Thread
I agree completely backing them up for personal use is a good idea, but when it comes to official home releases the digitization process should be done on a professional level.kei17 wrote:Yes, I've backed them up, but they should be professionally done for official releases.qjz123 wrote:I could be wrong but I believe that Kei17 has all of the audio from the original broadcast recordings already backed up losslessly on his computer.
You can get a clear version by collecting tapes recorded off of local TV channels yes, but you have to watch out for quality differences between versions because if the quality of the different audio sources is not similar to each other the change in audio quality will be noticeable by many audiophiles out there.kei17 wrote:That happened only five or six times I guess. In comparison to sending big bulky VHS tapes you're right it wouldn't be as expensive, but by the time you actually get everything sent out it'll still cost a pretty penny considering how much material you have in your collection.kei17 wrote:More than half of the tapes I'll send are Video8 and the others are Betamax, so I guess it wouldn't be that expensive.sangofe wrote:Trust me, sending all db and dbz on tapes from Japan to USA would be extremely expensive. Re: The Harmony Gold Dub & Broadcast Audio Discussion Thread
I guess I should get the family to digitize the tapes that we have and then send out the tapes, from what I remember most of our recordings were on Beta but it's been ages since I've even popped them in to play.
I wouldn't mind going down to TX anyways but I guess the more sources they have the better.
I'm pretty sure that DB was recorded and GT, we have a lot of Anime recorded from that time frame.

Re: The Harmony Gold Dub & Broadcast Audio Discussion Thread
You'll need a few things.
- Video Capture device most released today are HDMI only that is fine,
- HDMI to Composite now if the output of the adapter has S-Video use it by all means and then just use the red/white rca like normal.
So the input is obviously to the HDMI adapter and then you would connect your VCR and the HDMI out to your Monitor/TV.
This is how I do it and I really see no loss in quality.

The thing is we're not talking about digitizing footage itself, we're talking about digitizing the audio from the tapes into a digital format which wouldn't really need that much, all you really need is a capture card (I use an adaptec gamebridge for my audio digitization and the quality is pretty good) and a freeware audio recording program like Audacity it's really that simple.Daimo-Rukiri wrote:You'll need a few things.

I remember using some strange cable years ago and recording something through VHS with audacity. It took hours, but I goofed around with Audacity and made it sound lots better. XP

I don't own any of the GT discs so I've never heard the Japanese audio on them. Does FUNimation or Toei need higher quality audio for that series? Should we send them those tapes as well?Daimo-Rukiri wrote:I'm pretty sure that DB was recorded and GT, we have a lot of Anime recorded from that time frame.

Kei thinks Toei has found their stereo tracks for Dragon Ball GT, so I don't think we need to worry about that too much.

When it comes to North American releases, the FUNimation release of "Path to Power" does in fact have a stereo Japanese audio track.DerekPadula wrote:I don't own any of the GT discs so I've never heard the Japanese audio on them. Since mono/stereo is unrelated to actual audio quality, however--even the audio found on Kei's tapes for DB and DBZ is mono--I feel I should also clarify that the fidelity was also very good on that stereo track. Sounded like original broadcast quality to me!
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

Re: The Harmony Gold Dub & Broadcast Audio Discussion Thread
Why not? It can't hurt even if Funimation never uses it, it would be nice to have a version of the GT broadcast audio stored professionally by Funimation.DerekPadula wrote: I don't own any of the GT discs so I've never heard the Japanese audio on them. No. Toei still has the D-2 videotapes with the original stereo audio that they unfortunately forgot to use for the GT DBox.DerekPadula wrote:I don't own any of the GT discs so I've never heard the Japanese audio on them.
