Battle of Gods Review

Post by Weejus » Sat Nov 09, 2013 7:43 am

My current English assessment is to write a film review, and I'm doing Battle of Gods. Just thought I'd share with you my (unfinished) practice at it. If you don't mind, after reading it, could you please share your thoughts on it and what I could do to improve it?

I wouldn't deem Vegeta's outburst out of character for him at this point. Id even say its in character.

We see him go berserk when Cell kills Trunks, sacrifice himself against Majin Buu solely for Bulma, Trunks, and Goku, gives in to Potara Fusion after hearing Bulma and Trunks were absorbed/killed by Buu, and now assaulting Bills for hitting Bulma. Hes spent what, a decade or so on earth now? Hes far from the person he was when he debuted and on Namek.

Seriously? First off, Vegeta has forgone his evil ways at this point. While he's still a douche bag, he's still a good guy. His love for Bulma was also shown when he stated he would never fuse with Kakarot, but when Goku said Bulma was taken by Buu, he let down his pride and fused with him. He even went berserk when Trunks was killed. Secondly, Vegeta trying to appease Beers makes sense. He openly admitted he couldn't take Kakarot and that he was number 1. Since this Beers guy K.O.ed him in 2 hits, he would naturally be scared shitless. Need I remind you of his open fear against Freeza's second from? Vegeta was very in character.

Your point is what exactly :| ? I've used several examples from the manga to prove that this isn't out of character.

Did you not read what I posted or something? The manga practically screams he's in character. No no my friend. It is you who doesn't seem to understand Vegeta's character.

It's not Vegeta caring for his family that makes him out of character in BOG. It's how much he's willing to humiliate himself for them.

There is no way that Vegeta would start dancing like that because it simply is wierd.

Much bigger wierd thing is that everyone acts like this is a normal thing for Vegeta. No one was even wondering why the hell is he acting like that because he is Vegeta.

Vegeta wasn't Vegeta at that point, but i understand his anger growing stronger. He cleared his mind after Boo saga and this outrage was something diffrent to others before that mostly were hurting his pride...

And this is out of character because...? Vegeta has sacrificed his pride to fuse with Kakarot before. He's been openly scared before. These 2 things alone tell us that he would be willing to throw away his pride of the situation absolutely called for it, and this case it did. I would also like to point out that Vegeta does get angry that he had to throw away his pride to do a little dance routine. Before I go on though, have you even seen the movie?

A. It's weird sure, but he would do it if need be. B. No, everyone was like WTF when Vegeta did that.

I see nothing wrong with Vegeta. I see a Vegeta who manned the fuck up instead of being stubborn. I like this Vegeta far more than the early versions.

Vegeta was purposely acting out of character, to save the Earth. Even Goku said that Vegeta threw his pride away to save everyone. So, he gave his all to protect the Earth, which he now calls home (from the manga), and his family, which he loves. He even gave his life for the Earth against Boo, and even risked to get erased from existence later, and even die again much later.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

If it'll end this argument, I'll apologise for insinuating that Vegeta may have been OOC in my review. Okay? Can we stop now?

Nah. First of Vegeta would never dance or even use fusion dance, also mentioned by Piccolo because he knows Vegeta.

Everyone was like "What is he doing, and than "nevermind", not WTF is wrong with Vegeta, because they know him. It's pretty obvious that they used some gag scenes to make movie more funny, but they just made Vegeta lowering himself to the point where Future Trunks would be ashamed of him...

So, Trunks would be ashamed of his dad because he saved the Earth?

Future Trunks: I can't believe you dad. I'm going to ignore the fact you threw away your pride for us all which is extremely hard for you and the fact that you saved everyone because you looked so stupid. I much prefer you being a careless asshole who almost let the past me and my mother die and make dumbass decisions to let our enemies get stronger than us. Now he was someone to be proud of.
