Your Dragon Ball Guilty Pleasures

Post by dbzfan7 » Fri Dec 06, 2013 12:12 am

I like Broly and the american soundtrack in his movie. I don't care how unfitting and out of place it is. I saw this movie so many times as a kid that it's become a guilty pleasure. I don't even hate Broly's motivation even though he's heavily criticized for it. I find him to be some muscle bound troll that made me laugh at how he trolled the Z fighters. (Though movie 10 fell flat on it's face for me even though I used to really like it, now I only like half of it or less)

Same with the Broly movie, I liked the english soundtracks in Cooler's movies. I also watched both Cooler movies a dozen times.

I don't know if this counts but, I loved Chris Ragers portrayal of Mr. Satan so much that the Gori never interested me in the role. It's the only role where I will 1000% say that I like way more than the Japanese version.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

I guess for me it's that I like to watch the FUNi Z dub from time to time out of sheer nostalgia. I'm old enough to see it as a sloppy, amateurish and inacurrate production, but it reminds me of better times.

Of course, the Japanese version does too (I remember downloading OMG FULL EPS back in the Geocities and Angelfire days and watching most of the Kid Boo and Vegetto episodes raw and in Japanese, with ridiculously low quality that was OMG HQ for the time :p), and I've come to see it as the superior version (and of course, prefer it), and I could go into it more, but that's not the guilty pleasure now is it?

Of course, I don't tout the dub as superior, nor do I enjoy it more. It's just a nice nostalgia trip that I'm okay with taking once in a while.

My embellished ssjg Gokû doodles may count. >u>
Actually, a chunk of the db comics I've drawn may too depending on the definition.

The Creative Products Corps English dub of DBZ movie 5.

Still wish I could find a copy of 6.

The English dubs of movies 5 and 6, and GT in any language. They're objectively bad, and I'm familiar with all their faults, but I like them!

I own the dub of the second Coola movie on VHS and still have my childhood VCR... Maybe one day I'll have a burst of energy and feel compelled to set everything up.

I don't think it was out of place at all. Most of that movie consisted of Broly running around and punching people in the face and the aggressive heavy metal music fit that well.

I like watching the Broly movies once a year, back to back. Honestly, I find them very enjoyable to watch.

Also, not great but okay DB adult fan fiction... nuff' said.

Some of the Japanese intros/endings. Particularly the DB ending song and Dan Dan from GT. They're so damn cheesey, particularly the lyrics but I gotta admit I really like them.

I agree. 'We Gotta Power' literally gives me chills, despite being a ridiculously cheesiest wuxia theme with karaoke-grade production values. I think the GT music is much more permissible though - that stuff's brilliant.

I know it's awful, and I'd never recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen the series, but I really like the Z dub... especially season 3. I don't know if it's nostalgia or what but I loved it when it was in TV and I do now. I also like the Garlic Jr saga and the Great Saiyaman saga, and I love GT. I'm a terrible fan XD

I like the American soundtrack movies 4, 5, 8, and 10.

I love the Rock the Dragon theme. It's so cheesy and stupid that I love it.

The Big Green dub. Most of the voices are downright awful and out of character, but some surprised me in a good way.
There is no Dragon Ball canon.

Garlic Jr. Filler.
I think it's a refreshing, brief arc with some neat ideas. Also, it's nice to have something between Frieza's DeadNOHE'SNOT!!

As unfitting as it is, I kinda like Goku's Big Green voice, maybe because it just fits into that generic hero voice category that Goku sort of aligns into if you butcher his personality enough, which is what they did in the English dub anyway.

I don't really know if I have a 'guilty' pleasure for DB, per say. I'm pretty open in that I like what I like. Sure, some parts of it, like the earlier parts of the dub, I like a lot less than I do other later and more 'stellar' things, but...*shrugs*

I guess if I had to think on it though...Episode of Bardock is kind of a guilty pleasure for me. I don't like it a lot, but I still enjoy giving it a watch every now and then. And while I'm not really fond of the slight implications of Bardock possibly being the 'first' Super Saiyan, if you want to take it that way, I do like seeing him as a Super Saiyan for some reason. It's just badass to see, no matter how ridiculous it is.

Here Here, brother.

Also, the season 3 FUNi dub of DBZ. Hardly better than the 4kids One Piece dub yet I still enjoy it. I liked the painfully amateurish vocal performance (except Gohan, Bulma, and Freeza), hokey scripting, loose translation, and low-budget synthesized soundtrack. Everything.

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

FUNi's intro music for the Bardock & Trunks specials. Dragonball Z Z z z...
I also enjoyed GT after the search for the black star balls saga.
