Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods"

I don't really get why everyone suddenly thinks that the only possible threat they could come up with now would be another God. I mean...Beers is the FIRST time we've actually had a God that was ridiculously powerful and still relevant. Think of all the times before that where we've had 'gods' come in. Kami-sama was stronger than Goku at first, or at least more skilled, but he was surpassed as soon as the story went into it's next arc. Kaio-sama was, if I recall right, stronger than Raditz but wouldn't have been able to take care of Nappa or Vegeta. Goku trained under him and surpassed him right away. Kaio-shin comes in and while his power isn't exactly clear, he is quickly surpassed by the main characters of the Boo arc.

So why, after all of that, with tons of villains being stronger than the so-called 'Gods' we were familiar with before, would Beers actually being strong and effective mean that the ONLY way to top him is to use another God? My point is, I don't care what the next villain we get is, it could be an alien from another universe, it could even be somebody from Earth somehow - I just want them to be written even half as well as Beers was. That will keep me happy.

Because unlike the manga, where mortals and Gods both used ki and mortals could have more ki than Gods, Battle of Gods introduced Godly ki. And it was said in the movie that raising your battle power won't make up the difference between possessing or not possessing Godly ki. Arguably, after Super Saiyan God wore off, Goku is now a mortal with Godly ki, so you can say that a God isn't necessary, but someone with Godly ki certainly is to be a threat on par with the other Gods. And if Goku still keeps that Godly ki after the movie, nothing without it can be a threat to him.

Did anyone who ordered the Hong Kong Blu-ray from Play-Asia receive any follow-up? I got a "your order has shipped" email two weeks ago, but nothing since.

Aw damn it. So Toriyama MIGHT not be behind the scenes. Prepare for canon debates and for Toei to use the original BoG plot as a sequel so they won't have to do as much work.

Sounds like a maybe to me. Since BOG did well then I think Toei will try to get AT back to work on more DB projects in the near future. I can see a sequel being worst without him helping out. BOG was good since it was nice and original for once. The other DBZ movies just rehash other stuff we seen before.

Well, I stopped by Pacific Mall (yes, that mall as mentioned by Russell Peters in the stand-up comedy show that made him famous) and the store that carried legitimate DVD and blurays had the DVD in stock. I've mentioned that in this thread last week. Also, another word of caution, the Region 3 DVD release has Dolby Stereo 2.0 audio tracks only for the Cantonese and Japanese audio. No Dolby 5.1 audio tracks included. So for those hoping to watch it on a home theatre, you'll be disappointed.

I have not received my copy yet so I think my bluray copy will arrive this week.

Still waiting for my DVD (+Dragon Ball SD Vol. 1) from YesAsia, I'm reeeeeally hoping I get it soon! Last time I ordered from there it took a whole month, I hope it doesn't arrive after Christmas.

Also, I just realised, is Pan younger than Bra? Because that means the movie makes less sense. I guess it was never stated sooooo Bra's younger than Pan!

There's one year difference between the two girls. Depending on the source, Bra is one year older or one year younger than Pan.

The subtitles aren't hard-coded, so ripping/correcting that particular line isn't hard. The downside is that to attach it back to the film you need to be watching on a computer with your edited version of the subtitles at hand...
