"Battle of Z": Why isn't it coming to 3DS?

Post by MysticVegeta » Thu Jan 16, 2014 4:28 pm

I'm curious as to why Battle of Z hasn't/won't come to the 3DS.

I'm betting it, the hardware limitations of the 3DS, but I would still buy it nonetheless.

The hardware of 3DS is similar to PSP so it could handle games like Shin Budokai, Tenkaichi Tag Team and etc which I'd much rather play any of those than that god awful Battle of Z.

The 3DS isn't powerful enough.

Yeah, pretty much sums the show up right there.

SF4 on the 3DS looks almost the same as it does on the PS3 and 360. I think it could run BOZ, but I don't think Namco Bandai wants too. They must feel like the Vita is a better choice for a fighting game.

I believe so to. The second thumbstick would really help.

I think it's the better choice due to hardware too. The 3DS is GameCube level, whereas the Vita has raw power which is close to the PS3.

Oh well.

That's true but Namco Bandai must've had another reason why they ditched it.

Dear or Alive: Dimensions
Tekken 3D: Prime Edition
Super Street Fighter IV (as you've already listed)
Super Smash Bros. 4
Pokémon Rumble Blast
Dynasty Warriors Versus
BlazBlue: Continuum Shift II
Cartoon Network: Punch Time Explosion

PS Vita has some very good games but in terms of a quality catalogue and customer base, 3DS has them beat. Let's not forget that Super Smash Bros. 4 this year will sell a shit-ton of even more 2DS and 3DS systems.

Second thumbstick? Too late. Tenkaichi Tag Team on the PSP didn't need a 2nd analogue stick and the camera always worked properly, the same can't say for BT1 / BT2 / RB1 / BOZ maybe Spike/Artdink slacked off on them because they thought "they have a second analogue stick so let them manually target the enemy".

3DS comparable to NGC? Nah. NGC is graphically superior and the Wii was just a slight improvement of the NGC in a way. Try play Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory on NGC and 3DS (played the entire game on it and never felt the loss of 2nd analogue stick) then tell me where it looks better, and Mario Sunshine to Mario 3D Land.

There's the advantage that 3DS uses Game Cards which allows to hold more data than a Mini-DVD (NGC's disc type).

There is no other reason. You'd have a Power Point frame rate attempting to port Battle of Z to 3DS. So much work would need to be done to make it run well that it would barely resemble the original game. Comparing it to Street Fighter IV is unreasonable. That's a 2D fighting game rendering two characters on screen at once. Battle of Z is rendering a 3D world with up to eight characters. One is a lot more taxing than the other.
"I like the money it brings in, but Dragon Ball Heroes is the worst. That's actually the real reason I decided to start working on new material. I was afraid Bandai would make something irredeemably stupid like Super Saiyan 4 Broly." - Akira Toriyama, made up interview, 2013.

Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition on the 3DS offers a behind the should view (Dynamic View), so technically the game is a 3D fighter too.

I can't post my screenshot from the 3DS because the SSFIV3E community is missing from Miiverse, but this is how it looks:
It's sad that Namco Bandai isn't re-releasing Tenkaichi Tag Team for 3DS, 360, PS3, PS4, Wii U or Xbox One as a digital game. That's highly addictive and a ton of fun to play.

It's "3D" in that, yeah, it's built off polygonal characters, but you can't side-step in traditional Street Fighter games (of which this is one), nevermind completely circle around your opponent. It's still standard 2D fighting fare.

I don't see Tenkaichi Tag Team having a proper place in today's world, unfortunately. It was certainly neat for what little period of time it was around, but at this point people would just be asking, "Why can't we get BT3 instead?"

Battle of Z on the 3DS? Nah. I'd like to see a Legacy of Goku remake into 1 big game...or a port of Shin Budokai: Another Road.

Or Bt3...kidding.

Nah but seriously, I wouldn't like BT3 on a handheld. However... Budokai 1 with Yamamoto music on 3DS? Make it happen Namco-Bandai. haha

A remake of LOG would be cool with LOG2 gameplay. I think Namco Bandai most likely does not feel like hiring Webfoot for another game and I doubt most people who work on LOG 1-3 most likely no longer work at Webfoot.

Would love a Dragonball 3DS game.

I'm hugely game for a LOG remake trilogy but I think the time has passed for it.
It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.

Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.

I'm still expecting for Bandai Namco to make another RPG like DB title for the 3DS. I think the handheld deserves something unique DB wise but I can only hold my breath for so long. Battle of Z being on the vita, 360, and PS3 seems to be enough for me though. No need for another port that might even turn up a bit on the wonky side when quality is concerned.
