Raging Blast, maybe? Either that or Tenkaichi 2/3. I played Burst Limit without seeing anything beforehand, and when I'd heard RB was gonna be like a Next-Gen Tenkaichi I was giddy. Also, that trailer that I actually saw on TV and not a computer with Sean Schemmel narrating was a special moment.

Most hyped had to have been Budokai Tenkaichi 3. I just remember reading up on that character roster and being so pumped to experience it all. My good buddy and I played the heck out of that game for almost two months too.TheAldella wrote:Raging Blast, maybe? Either that or Tenkaichi 2/3. The first Budokai had me wickedly excited. I was 12, and it was the first home console release of the franchise since I'd gotten into it back in 2000 (and consequently the first one I didn't have to emulate on a slow computer with a keyboard
). There was a steady decline with each subsequent release, until Sparking! (or, Budokai Tenkaichi), which had been described to me as a DBZ version of Zone of the Enders which sounded pretty great.

Re: Which DBZ game had you the most hyped for release?
I wasn't 'pre' Final Bout per say, but it was the last Dragonball Z game to have been released when I was a young fan - and was therefore had all of the current buzz in the community.VegettoEX wrote:Anyone else a fan pre-Final Bout...? Anyone? Anyone at all? Bueller...?
'Cuz I think that pretty much takes the cake. Unless you were super early into the emulation scene with a powerful-enough computer or were already a VERY well-established fan with lots of outside knowledge, it was pretty much the "first" Dragon Ball game you were going to play that you actually knew was a Dragon Ball game. It had things well beyond what the syndication run was up to, which was bonkers. It was receiving coverage in video game magazines. Hype. Train. Choo-Choo. Ride it.
After that, it was probably Budokai 3. It was clear the games were just getting better and better, and learning how the underlying fighting system was getting enhanced so much was super freakin' exciting. It pretty much fired on all cylinders and hit a home run and took the prize and was the bee's knees and the total cream of the crop.
Considering the fact that I've been running a website since 1998 and basically covered every single game in-depth since the resurgence, it's been super-hard to get me super-excited pre-release. I know too much. I need to be eliminated. The truth is too dangerous.
What's more - it looked absolutely amazing by the standards at the time. Back then it was rare to find Playstation ISOs online, and by the standards of my late 1990's 56k Dialup connection - those kind of file sizes were out of reach anyway, as the damned connection used to throw me off every 15 minutes!
In the end I convinced my parents to import it from Japan for my Birthday. Yeah, it sucked - but back then I didn't care - as it was an actual real Dragonball Z game with 3D Graphics.
I think the fact that Budokai was the first game released on a major console after the Worldwide Dragonball boom made it an incredibly hyped released too, as it was the first taste that most fans got of a Dragonball Z game they could go out to the store to buy (unless they were lucky enough to find a second hand English release of Final Bout somewhere). I think the fact that the new generation of fans were starved of a modern game definitely created a buzz of stratospheric proportions - especially given that Bid For Power, which at one point was the closest thing that Dragonball Z fans had to a modern game, more or less hit the buffers over legal trouble and had to be scrubbed of all Dragonball related content of characters (until it was leaked in its original form).

Legends, it was 2000/2001, i`ve readed about it on computer magazine Christmas release (They had special list of Dragon Ball games) i was so hyped, when i read about sstages like "Battle of Buus" and imagine, that you will be able to fight every possible Buu form, i only knew Famicom DBZ games at that point, when i was finally able to play it on Summer 2001, i was very dissapointed, that i wasn`t able to play as every Buu form, fortunately, year later, i could in LSW for GBC

Re: Which DBZ game had you the most hyped for release?
I would have to say Dragon Ball: Ultimate Blast because the first screens that came out looked amazing but then we all know how the game turned out to be.
Also, back in the 90's I always wanted to play Dragon Ball Z: The Legend but it was the kind of thing that many would talk about but not one actually had the chance to play thankfully now I own it and in a way Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z is the modern version of Dragon Ball Z: The Legend.
The cover of DBZ:TL is an interesting tidbit of art, the front looks really cool but the rear is just a bunch of screenshots with no text (except technical stuff).

Re: Which DBZ game had you the most hyped for release?
I remember waiting a whole year for Tenkaichi 2 (or Sparking NEO!!). I had seen screenshots online and was totally hyped. I actually remember being so excited that I mistook an ad in Gamestop where it very clearly stated the release date of November 2006, which was a month from then, and actually begged my father to buy a copy for me...I wasn't too bright as a kid. Funny enough, I didn't get the same hype for Meteor; actually I had no idea it existed until the week it came out. I was on vacation, just saw it in a store and just bought it.

I do enjoy playing Tenkaichi 3 / RB2 / TTT but admittedly they all just feel replicas of the same character. It doesn't feel any different but it's fun nevertheless.
This is what I hate about Tenkaichi fans they care more about quantity than actually quality in a game. You don't see other fighting games' fans making unreasonable demands. SF has a balanced number of characters which doesn't even need surpass 100 characters but SF is a hardcore fighting game and Tenkaichi doesn't even come close.

Re: Which DBZ game had you the most hyped for release?
Out of DevilCorpse and DBZGTKOSDH posts. How do you understand that THEY want to him 8000 characters? How do you know they want quantity over quality? I mean their post didn't really imply that now did it? Also PLENTLY of other fighting games(Yes even the hardcore fighting game) fanbase demand over the average amount of characters. Not just Tenkaichi. Street Fighters fans have done it as well. Tekken fans has done it too. So please don't put all that "WE WANT 8000" stuff on Tenkaichi fans. Also play as Chazou then play as Broly. They're do not feel the same. Which honestly feel that certain Tekken games are just the same characters when I play. I wanted a Sparking Omega/ Tenkaichi 4 as well. But I don't want 8000 characters. I want the main cast, support cast, movie cast, and maybe some extras and I'm set. Tenkaichi 2 had the perfect roster for me.dbboxkaifan wrote:Because of the 8000 characters the game was going to have?DBZGTKOSDH wrote:Same here... damn, it sounded so good...TheDevilsCorpse wrote:Sparking! Re: Which DBZ game had you the most hyped for release?
You can hate it, I don't care. But you could have a little more respect for other people's opinions being different from your own here.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I want a fun game that feels like I'm simulating Dragon Ball while playing it. Unless it's based off of Pilaf through Piccolo Junior, I personally don't even entertain the idea of Dragon Ball being done as a traditional fighter anymore. If I wanted to play a traditional fighting game, there are traditional fighter franchises out there that have been refining the formula for decades and have been doing it well. I'm not looking for a clone of them with a Dragon Ball coat of paint. It just doesn't interest me. So, I really couldn't care about super in-depth mechanics if I'm going to be limited to the same roster over and over again. Sticking me with Goku, SS Goku, SS3 Goku, Vegeta, SS Vegeta, Trunks, SS Trunks, SS2 Gohan, Ultimate Gohan, SS3 Gotenks, SS Vegetto, Piccolo, Final Form Freeza, Perfect Cell, Innocent Buu and Pure Buu is going to make me bored.
You say we prefer quantity over quality, but did you ever think that perhaps our definitions just differ? I judge the quality of the game by the amount of fun I have while playing it, because games are supposed to be fun. To me, the Sparking! and Raging Blast series were solid quality game foundations. Could they have used some further tweaks to balance things out and diversify the roster a bit more as the character counts increase? Sure, almost all games can stand to be improved and pretty much everyone should be willing to admit that. But they were still fun, offered lots of characters and costumes to create countless possible match-ups, recreated a lot of the feelings from the show in the combat and this offered a LOT of replayability for me. Sparking! Meteor was particularly fun with the combat and various themed Survival Modes, though I think I enjoyed most of Raging Blast 2's combat better, though it could stand to be sped up a bit. They were experiences I enjoyed. If we were to get another, I'm not looking for every character under the sun. I just think it would be nice to cover all the content of the series properly for once, at max with a roster like that of Heroes, which still barely over 250 INCLUDING transformations as separate characters, let alone the over exaggerated 8,000 we're claimed to demand...
Honestly, It doesn't have to be a Sparking! style game. Battle of Z was another interesting prospect. There are problems I have with the game as of right now, so I don't plan to purchase it. But I will be looking forward to see if there is a sequel and what they end up doing with it. I just don't want anything like a traditional fighter ever again for the franchise. If that's what others want to see in the future though, then more power to 'em. I'm not going to say I hate that quality about fans who want something different. Hell, I hope they get the game they dreamed of. I just won't be making that purchase if it comes to fruition though.

Gotta say, much like Kaboom with the "In-Universe" material, I agree with a lot of what you have to say when it comes to the games DevilsCorpse.
However, I feel like BT3 had a bit more to the combat than RB2 did. If you combine BT3's level of combat with Raging Blast 2's roster, that would've made for a pretty damn good game in my opinion.

I was extremely hype for BT3. Once I saw the first trailer for it, I immediately bought bt2 and played through the whole game up to BT3's release. I've probably put over 100 hours into BT3 since I bought it in 2007.

Re: Which DBZ game had you the most hyped for release?
Each side had it's own merits. I think the third Sparking! entry feels like it had a bit more depth and variety to the melee combat, but Raging Blast 2 feels like it has more variety overall with the Follow-up System, increased number of Super Attacks, the extra defense mechanics (Super Deflection), etc.goku the krump dancer wrote:However, I feel like BT3 had a bit more to the combat than RB2 did. That's why when Sparking! OMEGA was announced, I was thoroughly excited. I thought they might have not only added more characters to the already impressive Sparking! Meteor roster, but that they may have gone back and reworked the combat system to include some of the idea's that worked from Raging Blast 2 and Ultimate Blast. Toss in the new characters that debuted in those games, add in the increased number of Super Attacks, tweak Blast Stocks to help limit Ultimate Attack usage, change the Sonic Sway to being manual instead of automatic, implement the Crash and Deflection mechanics, remove the character class wall effects that prevents flinching, etc.
Too bad it was all a lie....

I want both quality & quantity, and Sparking! METEOR has both of these for me. Like TheDevilsCorpse said, I want a game that feels like DBZ, not a fighting game with DBZ characters.dbboxkaifan wrote:Because of the 8000 characters the game was going to have?

A perfect example is Super Dragon Ball Z. It's a great game, but it doesn't feel like DBZ at all, it forces me to stick with one character instead of many, and it doesn't even have many characters to chose. The Budokai games are also great (my favorite is Infinite World), but it also doesn't feel like DBZ at all.
But with BT3, you have many choices to make, and a fun gameplay that feels more like DBZ than any game before it. And it's sad that Sparking! OMEGA was a lie, because BT3 had potential to be improved and become a far better game, but the Raging/Ultimate Blast games took a step backwards in many things.

I would have liked to see what Sparking! OMEGA could have been. As a matter of fact, any new game based on the Tenkaichi engine should first and foremost retain the speed of BT3 in my opinion. Anything before and after it feels way too slow.

Raging Blast 1 - Until I saw how underwhelming a game it was.
Raging Blast 2 - Before I found out they cut out the storymode and all of RB1's game modes / Before they discontinued GT
Ultimate Tenkaichi - when promised to go back to BT roots. That was an utter lie.
