Krillin and Yamcha's retirement
Krillin and Yamcha's retirement
It's generally said that the two of them stopped training after Cell Games but is this said anywhere in the manga? Been wondering for a while.

Re: Krillin and Yamcha's retirement
Well, I think with Krillin at least it's assumed that he stopped training because of the fact that he grew his hair back out for the first time in the series. The shaved head and dots were something he had from way back when he first started training at Orin Temple (...name may not be right) and are associated with that sort of fighting monk character, so him no longer shaving his head could be a sign that he's not keeping up with the rest of his martial arts stuff much (if at all), either.
I can't remember if there's any clear statement (or even implication) with Yamcha, though. He didn't enter the Budokai during the Buu saga, at least, so I guess that's something... but then again, Krillin did enter and it seems like he probably hadn't been training. And Tenshinhan didn't, though we know for a fact that he kept training... so I guess that probably doesn't mean much.

Apparently when Gohan first encounters Krillin and #18 there's a mention Krillin has retired, but #18 wants him to join the tournament.
Nothing on Yamcha so far.

Re: Krillin and Yamcha's retirement
I'm pretty sure there is a scene for Yamcha, but I don't remember specifically where it is. I think it's either when they get on the plane to go to Papaya Island, or when they are in the Tenka'ichi Budokai stands. Someone either asks Yamcha if he was going to enter as well or why he didn't enter, and he responds by saying that he gave up on fighting.

Yeah, Gohan mentions that Krillin doesn't fight anymore at the start of the Buu arc.
If the JSAT is anything to go on, though, they're both wearing their dogi underneath their regular clothes at Satan's party.

They seem to have "taken a break" at least. Kuririn is seen fighting with 18 after Gohan tells him about the Tournament and Yamchu in the Anime while being in the Otherworld.

Re: Krillin and Yamcha's retirement
I guess he is kind of under duress by #18, as she wants him to fight to maximise their chances of winning some money at the Tenkaichi Budokai. Before that point, though, I'm pretty sure he'd called it a day.Cetra wrote:They seem to have "taken a break" at least. Kuririn is seen fighting with 18 after Gohan tells him about the Tournament
Well, even as far as nonsensical filler goes - Krillin seems to intimate that in the real world he was merely lazy about his training, not that he'd totally given up.Cetra wrote:Yamchu in the Anime while being in the Otherworld.
I'll need to consult the manga to be sure, but I seem to recall two comments that Yamcha makes about not fighting anymore. I think he says something at the start of the Cell games that he's there only as a spectator as he's not up to scratch, and the other at the start of the Buu arc when everyone meets for the tournament. I think someone asks him why he isn't participating to which he says something along the lines of 'I don't really fight anymore, besides - everyone is on such a high level now there's no point competing'.
Only going on memory here, though.

Re: Krillin and Yamcha's retirement
Doesn't Gohan break the fourth wall to explain Kuririn's overall situation including retirement?
