Thoughts on a future anniversary release?
Oh of course. I agree that if there's any sort of continuation, it should completely disregard GT. However, Akira Toriyama actually drew SSJ4 Goku recently on the cover of something (was it a DVD re-release in Japan or some calender? I'm not sure.). This has given some fans the idea that Toriyama has regrettably accepted GT as canon. Let's hope he regains his sanity, if this is the case.
The only ssj4 I think he has drawn was with his message in the GT Dragonbox(and in it I think he refered to GT as a DB sidestory). And I doupt he thinks of anything as "canon", to him it's likely all just one big series he started and is done with.
Some think since GT's there it shouldn't just be disregarded if there was another story, others think it should just because of how poorly it was done. Perhaps the best path to take if there had been another series would've been to make it just a bad dream. Goku wakes up from a bad dream(which was GT) and occasionaly think of the weird dream he had that made little sense(like he could get the idea to name his next level of Kamehameha the Jubei Kamehameha, things like that could be GT's nod). With it like that, GT happened, but GT also never happened, the perfect solution.

I know you weren't debating the importance of canon, merely what AT may or may not think of it. I was simply stating my opinion for the record. I do believe he's touched on it a few times in interviews, asking who certain characters were, like Brolli, and remarking that Pikkon was "ugly". To me this is sort of a gentle poke at non-canon events and characters that he maybe wasn't fond of.
In any event, I'll restate my previous sentiment. A continuation of the "Path to Power" storyline into another feature would be grand. I'd like to see Tien and Piccolo introduced, and perhaps a bigger role by Android 8, since he was saved at the end of Path to Power. It has potential to be an amusing departure from the established manga storyline, if it were ever made.

That's because Toriyama hardly remembers anything about DB anymore(Broly was one of the movie characters Toriyama designed himself).Pang_Tong wrote:I do believe he's touched on it a few times in interviews, asking who certain characters were, like Brolli
That was fake. It, it's fellow "Super Otaku" interview, and the one giving ssj2 Gohan's powerlevel(how ignorant they were...) are three famous fakes that still haunt the internet today.and remarking that Paikuhan was "ugly".
I don't think that there will be another anniversary movie in a long long while. But nevertheless I would like to see one.
I have always liked to see more backstories of the characters of Dragonball. Like what did Yamcha do before meeting Goku, why did he get into a bandit? Or how did Tien train, and how did he get all that lust to hurt people? Why did Krillin end up as a monk?
I think that those questions very well can be answered in an anniversary movie. But then, of course, I would like the story to be written by Akira Toriyama. I guess he already have some ideas.
But well, we have only hope to rely on. Or the greed and lust for money of Funimation.

You know what would be awesome?
Another movie about Bardock. Showing more Saiya-jin history than just the last few days of the planet's existance.
Explaining how Freeza's family came into power over the saiya-jin race, and maybe finally answering the age old question about Goku's mother.

There is no better combination in the world than Dragonball, Cherry Pepsi, and Cheez-Its. It's a proven fact.

Alrightie then. That was very informative. I wasn't aware they were faked. Oh well. I saw them at supposedly reliable places, too. I guess I should know better than to believe anything I haven't seen the source of.Metrite wrote:snip

Maybe a semi-CG movie covering all of Dragonball. It could be like 3-4 hours. Just someone who lived it narrating ever so often to cover gaps between major events. Watch Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children and see how beautiful CGI can truly be and you can't help but wonder if they can pull off Goku's hair like they did with Cloud's.
Now enough dreaming, I don't see any new DB animation EVER besides in videogames....sigh....

Myself, I can't see anything in the way of a new animated feature until a long, long way down the road. It's not going to happen within the next few years, I don't think. But at the same time, I can definitely see it happening at some point . . . as an inevitability of demand. If the games remain popular and people keep buying the series on each new format as it comes; if the culture remains generally aware of Dragonball and can remember it years and years from the day the last episode aired, the nostaligia will come. And Toei will do something.
Perhaps we should be thinking along the lines of Dragonball's 50th anniversary . . . though admittedly, the longer they wait, the more difficult it may be, considering that some of the voice actors may not be around forever.
As for what I'd like to see? . . . oh, hell. Just about anything, I suppose. There's no small number of wild ideas running through my head that I'm sure will never see the light of day. But if I had to be strict about it, I'd probably insist that anything new should really add something to the story as a whole; that it should touch on its roots, and show us something truly special. (In other words, not just "Movie 14".) Make it about the long journey of friendship, give us some funny character moments and a few flashy new moves, let the story have a meaningful impact that will resonate throughout the continuity of all Dragonball and then let it all rest until the next anniversary, and make us remember why we loved the show so much to begin with.
Perhaps only a retelling could do that, like other people have suggested. I don't know.
(On that thought, I think it'd be fun if a retelling were told through the characters themselves. Like Goku and Vegeta sitting and talking about old times, and then we get various interjections of "Hey, remember the fight with Freeza/Cell/Buu/Etc? . . ."
And then maybe all this talk about fighting makes them want to go all out against each other. Though of course, we wouldn't get to see it.)
