I never implied it was. The speech still sucked even as a Joke. The first bubble was cool and pretty basic funny. My apologies.. But that's the vibe I got from you and the few others who were upset about what he said. If you don't think it was funny, fine it wasn't exactly a knee-slapper to me either. However I don't see what was said as something that was dare I say, "out of character" for Goten.
It's not too late. One day, it will be.

Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Sarcasm and sounding fake is too different things. Goku sounded fake on the ally to good. That wasnt sarcasm. Sounding fake on this was more off "could you ever hear that in a show" . I can see GoTrunks sayin that and Goten saying something similar.jjgp1112 wrote:Well, um yeah, that's the point. You know, I don't really get where people get the whole "Goten would NEVER say that!" notion, considering that we barely spent any time with Teen Goten in the regular series. Heck, if anything, it actually FITS really well, considering how goofy Gotenk's is. I mean, that goofiness has to come from SOMEWHERE, right?

90% of the dialogue sounds fake because it's badly translated. Goten's goofy speech is hardly a first.

Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
Reading the couple of comments about Goten's speech, there is a funny debate in the two Spanish versions of the comic.
The European Spanish version kept the speech as it is, sounding like a TV commercial, or something like that. However, the Latin American Spanish eliminated all the TV aspects of it, and just turned it into a generic comment praising Goku, because, supposedly, they wanted to change it into something Latin Americans like, because those things don't happen in the Latin American dub. The debate ensues when people are against changing the original text simply because the translators don't like it, and even some Latin Americans say that they don't understand why they shouldn't like/understand a speech like that.
Now the mod is a bit mad (lame joke, but true) about the matter. Who'd have thought that such an unimportant line would come to this...
EDIT: Btw, it turns out that the discussion got the translator of the Lat.Am version to resign, and I, who criticized the disproportionate outrage of the mod, banned. Not that I commented much, so I'm not really bothered.

Translaters have to translate. He was doing more than that, he was twisting the original text to fit his view of how the text should be. That's not acceptable, IMO.

More or less. He did it using the loose excuse of "it's not something Latin Americans like" or "it doesn't appear on the dub".TheGmGoken wrote:Basically he pulled an inaccurate dub but for the manga?rereboy wrote:Translaters have to translate. They've said that the translator has resigned because he's tired of everyone criticizing his work in every page he does. I've never paid much attention to those debates, but one of the first things I noticed about the Latin American version was that, sometimes, they just changed the text for no other reason (they admitted it) than to make it different from the first Spanish version, sometimes resulting on different translations for something which can perfectly and naturally be translated word for word. Now the mod has put all the blame of us and said that the Lat.Am. translation is going to be more mediocre because of criticisms.
I can't imagine what would happen if criticisms regarding Funimation's DBZ translation or just innacurate DBZ translations were banned in this forum

Personally, I don't see the problem so long as it at least keeps the spirit of what was said. Or, at the very least, if there IS an alteration, it's one that's made for good reason, and preferably, has the blessing of the creator.Translaters have to translate. Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
DBM has earned some valid complaints, but all this upset over dialogue? No F-bombs, nothing horribly mistranslated like that "Yamcha, stopped!" fiasco, Is there an actual issue?

Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
Yeah, I really don't get all the complaints about that line (especially comparing it to the "ally to good, nightmare to you" speech--where the heck is that comparison even coming from?)
I thought it was pretty obvious that Goten was just making the same jokes a lot of fans make about Goku, or even about DBZ as a whole--how characters die and get resurrected a lot ("he only dies every other time!") and how everyone the main cast beats-but-doesn't-kill randomly becomes friends with them afterward. Did people just... not get that, or what?
(I guess I can kinda see where the "Goten probably wouldn't say that" is coming from, since it seems like a "breaking the 4th wall" sort of joke more than something any character would realistically say, especially one who wasn't even present for most of the things he's joking about here... but other than maybe that? no idea where all the outrage is coming from.)

Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
If he's making it sound much more like his dub, he's not keeping the spirit of what was being said because nowhere in the original was there any intention of it being similar to his dub.Fionordequester wrote:Personally, I don't see the problem so long as it at least keeps the spirit of what was said. Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
Of course there was no joke like that in their dub, because there wasn't one in Dragon Ball! With how ridiculously accurate the Mexican Spanish dub was, I find it hard to believe that they'd kill off a joke like that if one existed in the original.
