Re: How did you learn about Dragon Ball and become a fan?
I was introduced to Dragon Ball Z later than most fans on here have. I was around 15 or 16 not sure of my exact age, well anyway I was introduced to the series by best friend who sadly passed away last year. He introduced me to anime starting with Pokemon when we were kids lol. He knew everything there was to knw about Dragon ball or so I thought as I eventually surpassed him haha. I miss him a lot, he was my only friend that was into anime so it's tought not having friends who share my interest in DBZ. That's why Kanzenshuu is so awesome, there's loads of fans right here to talk to.

Re: How did you learn about Dragon Ball and become a fan?
I think it was around 1997 when I got a VHS tape of the first three episodes of Dragon Ball of the first Funi dub of the Ocean cast. I didn't know what it was and my Dad got it for me when he heard it was some popular cartoon from Japan. He knew that I like Japanese stuff like Godzilla, so I give it a try and I didn't like it. In 1998, I discover DBZ by mistake when I was waiting for Beast Wars to be on Toonami and I saw the episode where they wish Goku back to life. I didn't know what it was, so I change the channel and watch Angry Beavers instead.
In 1999, I heard people talking about DBZ and how cool it was. I knew what DBZ was and I try to watch to it, I didn't like it at all. For a while at the time, I hated DBZ because it was so popular. It was the only show that people would talk about it while Pokemon and Digimon were the main shows for me. Then sometime in 2001, I watch Toonami midnight run of SSj2 Gohan vs. Perfect Cell and it got me hook. Then I move into my new house in 2001 in Columbia, Maryland and I became friends with my neighbor Ryan that live right next to me. He was a big DBZ fan and help me catch up to everything. Around that time, I also used the Internet and I discover a fan site called "Dragon Ball Z Uncensored". That help me learn more about the Japanese version and I also begin to track as much DBZ info as I got. Everything else has been history.

Yeah kind of the same thing for me. I wasn't quite sure what to make of DBZ at first. I didn't even know what anime was at the time. I was on vacation with my family and my best friends family and he switched on the TV in his hotel room and tuned in to toonami to watch DBZ. It was an episode during the world tournament segmntof the Buu arc. I thnk it was the one where Gohan Goes Super Saiyan 2. I couldn't tell what was going on of course but I did find it kind of interesting. Soon after I was hooked.

I think for me, it started when I came across this guy in Toys R Us (anyone remember that place?). After harassing my mom to death for it she finally bought it for me and I took it with me wherever I went (until I lost it at a local park and threw a tantrum like no other). Soon after that my Grandma introduced me to the anime buy getting me a VHS consisting of Mecha Freeza's arrival to Goku's return to earth for my birthday. When I got abit older I found the show again through Toonami and now I'm here.

So yeah I have these products to thank for introducing me to DBZ.

I first saw Dragon Ball in English on UPN back in 1995... I know, I'm showing my age there.

Re: How did you learn about Dragon Ball and become a fan?
Like most kids back in the day, I became of fan of the franchise cuz of Toonami. Though I didn't like both DB and DBZ at first, because DBZ scared the hell outta me for some reason and DB was too stupid. But after a few episodes, got me hooked, and here I am, loving the DB series(yes, even GT). Though I still think the DB is a bit too silly and if I watched DB first before Z, wouldn't have been THAT much interested in Z and GT, I still would be, but not much.
Yes, I admit that I watched Z before DB, and honestly, I'm glad I did.

Maybe not in your local area, but they still exist and there's one from my house like 10 minutes away from me.

In 1994 I believe, Episode 1 airing on "WB." It was completely by accident. Saw episode 1, then episode 2, etc. Then I would randomly catch it at 6 am on "WB." By the time it came to Toonami, I had already seen a good chunk of it, along with the "Tree of Might" movie.

The syndication run of the first TV series was 1995.
The syndication run of the DBZ TV series was 1996-1998.
Toonami broadcast began in 1998 with "new" material in 1999.

I started when I was about 9 or 10 when DBZ was airing in the AM. Then I found the toonami block on CN and I was hooked since then. I think DBZ started the block if I'm not mistaken at 5pm.

Re: How did you learn about Dragon Ball and become a fan?
I remember over a decade ago, I would feel shy around fans telling them that I got into DBZ in 2001 when most of them been fans for over 10 years at the time. You don't see many fans that got into DBZ by via bootleg tapes now these days on these type of forums like you used too. Those fans feel like that they are dead breed.
