BGM Collection? Bootleg?

Post by Sebastian (SB) » Fri Sep 08, 2006 6:04 pm

So I recently got my BGM collection from the dealer in Amazon USA & I was psyched about it, but then I learned something unpleasant. Usually most Dragon Ball based records are released by Columbia of Japan right? Well I saw that in the back of the CD, it says "MIYA RECORDS" & also on the sides. I don't it this is normal, but otherwise I think I've been ripped, so I'm going to delete that link(from a previous thread).

Yeah, this one was totally Columbia. The bottom spine of the box says "2006 COLUMBIA MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT, INC."

A quick Google search brought up the text: "A record company based in Taiwan that releases high-quality, but unlicensed (bootleg), popular Japanese music, including many game and anime soundtracks. Recognizable by their lack of credits to the original copyright holder, and the 'Made In Taiwan' notation."

Ya, that's bootleg. Miya Records is just one of the newest names popping up lately on a long list of pirating companies.

Well, with all that being said. I'll warn everyone here to be wary of the
"Import King" in Amazon.com. I sent them an e-mail regarding the CD, so I'll have to wait for their reply.

My advice? Don't use Amazon to look for rare anime items such as this. You're actually better off using E-bay. People talk about E-bay likes it's a really bad place to use where you're always going to get ripped off. However, from all my personal experiences as well as tons of things I've heard from others, Amazon is more like that than anything. It's rife with bootlegs and scammers. At least with E-bay, if you know what to stay away from and use good judgement, it's a lot easier to actually get what you're looking for there.

Wow, I was actually going to buy some Final Fantasy soundtracks from 'Import King' because I got conned into buying bootlegs on ebay. Looks like i'll be shopping elsewhere.

Wait so even if Amazon themselves is selling the item, It might have a chance of being bootleg?

No.

People can list items for sale from THEMSELVES under the Amazon listing as "Used". There's no-one to sit back and say, "Hey... wait a minute... this item isn't exactly the same thing as what our listing is for...", so people list bootleg versions under the entry for the legit version.
