Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
I don't see why this great style suddenly becomes bad if it's applied to DB. I mean it's not like this special is standard DB in the first place. It's a special centering on an original Namek character as well as the Frost Demons (the name itself is fan-made) on far-removed planets dealing with non-Earth stuff. I think Freeza's family and alien allies fit this style quite well and it seems we'll be seeing quite a few original races in this chapter. It's not like we're seeing Goku or Vegetto drawn in that style. They chose the right special for this artist IMO.

Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
It is a Dragon Ball fan-manga, so it should at least try to stay in its style. That's what I believe, and that's a factor why I don't like most of the specials. I don't want to see Dragon Ball in different styles, I want to see Dragon Ball.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Well one thing that's a constant here
A) Whether main story or special, someone will complain.
B) If It's a horrid artist, someone will whine.
C) It's on a universe that isn't interesting, someone will riot
I thought people like the Gast Universe, and there is a great artist, and what do you know, more complaining, if not for the one page that gave minor exposition, than for the artist. You call him bad? I suppose all you dissenters would enjoy the return of PoF, or Chibi Dam Z, or even Berrizo. Yes this guy is SO much worst than Berrizo.

I love the style and artwork. If the comic try too hard to look like Dragon Ball then everyone would bitch about it and say that it looks like tracing. I welcome original styles for once.

I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

I don't. Which is why I'm not looking forward to this special, despite actually liking the art.I thought people like the Gast Universe

Herms wrote:The fact that the ridiculous power inflation is presented so earnestly makes me just roll my eyes and snicker. Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

It's a special. Jaco didn't look like Dragon Ball either.DBZGTKOSDH wrote:It is a Dragon Ball fan-manga, so it should at least try to stay in its style. Instead of that, there's complaining solely because the art style differs from the traditional DB art style. Honestly, I don't know which is worse.Saiga wrote:People aren't even calling him bad.FoolsGil wrote:Well one thing that's a constant here

Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
Yes it did. Toriyama's art-style has changed, as it has changed so many times through the original serialization, but you don't see it and say "this looks nothing like DB".Marco Polo wrote:It's a special. Saiyan Armor looks so badass in this artstyle. I like how the shoulder guards have a more scaly surface.

Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
I love when Dragon Ball is drawn well in a different art style so this Special gets a plus from me.
It might be a bit on the dark/edgy side but I much prefer this to some of the other obscure art styles we've seen or the common amateur trying to imitate Toriyama's style.

Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
I think the fact that they keep allowing various artists to showcase their work is awesome.
I think that the main story should keep to the style it has, but changing it up for the specials is fine. There will (and have) been less than stellar artists, but it's always interesting to see what far out style we'll have next.

I'll be tuning in for the art alone. Hopefully this special is also interesting and not a murder-kill-fest.

Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
I don't care too much for the art in this special. I see how some would like it but it's just hard for me to get a 'DB-feel' while reading.
