As you said, FUNimation is a business. Their goal is to make money. The only reason they'd go to the effort of digitizing and syncing up audio for hundreds of episodes when they already have serviceable audio is if they felt the resulting demand was enough to justify it. So what happens if they're beaten to the punch, and everyone who's interested has already gotten it for free on the internet? Demand goes down, and it's no longer economically feasible to worry about. Hardly a minor detail.dbboxkaifan wrote:So even though it's by far better than the muffled track on all home releases it would be rejected simply because it was on the internet?! FUNimation is a business company and for them they're fine with what they already have as they're not audiophiles but if they appreciated the better audio quality version they wouldn't even care about that minor detail.

If people who love the franchise they support then they will purchase it.
I for one have no interest in pirating Dragon Ball, aside from watching the weekly Kai which I watch within 24hrs and then delete plus the unreleased DBZ Film BGMs (which I've listened to death).
So, if FUNimation were to feature the Japanese broadcast audio not only would they be grabbing the English market but also the International and Japan's customers because it includes the holy grail audio of Dragon Ball Z.
I recall seeing episodes with Japanese broadcast audio (Level BDs' rips) on a piracy website but I never bothered to download them. I'm not lazy just lack of interesting for downloading 'cause I prefer to own it if given the option.

That and I've been downloading the original dragonball in DBOX format because I can't afford the Japanese boxes and they don't have English subtitles. but as soon as they become available(if ever) then I will buy them again(already got the blue season sets)dbboxkaifan wrote:If people who love the franchise they support then they will purchase it.

Once you put something on the net, it spreads like wildfire. There's no such thing as keeping a digital file contained forever. This is one thing I've learned over the years of being on the internet.kei17 wrote:That is definitely my rip and I gave it to a limited number of people who asked me for the special on PM on the promise of not giving it to anyone else, but now it's somehow openly available. Sigh.
It was not for the sake of my possessive feeling. I borrowed the recording from an old Japanese fan and I digitized it for him, so I didn't want it to be openly available this way without his permission.
You probably should've watermarked something like "DO NOT DUPLICATE" underneath the video. Not like it's going to deter anyone from spreading it anyways but it should let people know it's not meant to be all over YouTube.

If a copy of the series appeared online for free with noticeably better quality than the official release, and the entire fanbase became aware of it, TOEI and FUNimation would be pretty much forced to upgrade their official products.

Do you know what encouraged many companies to license anime series for the US market? Fansubs. Bootlegs also encourage official releases of previously unreleased material in the music industry as well, I see it happen all the time.AjayLikesGaming wrote:If that broadcast audio is shared freely and ends up on The Pirate Bay, a piracy website or any other such site (which it inevitably would), there goes your chance at a definitive release. Exactly but why would FUNimation bother to spend more money on it? They shouldn't to cut costs.UpFromTheSkies wrote:If a copy of the series appeared online for free with noticeably better quality than the official release, and the entire fanbase became aware of it, TOEI and FUNimation would be pretty much forced to upgrade their official products.
Pretend this were a conversation at FUNimation:
Employee A: Oh look I found high quality Japanese broadcast audio files of DBZ on the internet which are way better than our releases have, should we use it?
Employee B: Not a chance! The whales will always continue to buy our releases regardless of the quality the Japanese audio has so they're already satisfied, we'll not give them any better or else they'll start demanding too much.
Employee A: So true. They need to be kept under control.
As long as they include the default Japanese audio there won't be any bitching about it nor of its broadcast audio because it never hit and never will, by the looks of it.

They would spend money to keep their customers. But the thing is, the customers are loyal to FUNimation and not giving us the option to decide if we wanted the Broadcast Audio is financially better for them because they won't spend a dime and just use what they already have prepared.
If there weren't so many whales (at Amazon/YouTube) rebuying Dragon Ball Z that'd allow FUNimation to see where they'd need to improve their releases but that isn't the reality.

Don't you think that it's a kind of ignorant thinking? Do you think that this material just magically appeared on Kei's HDD? It's not only about the audio itself. Can you even imagine how much time an effort it takes to find, get and rip betamax tapes, edit and master ~300 audio files, ~30 minutes each? It's not only the audio. It's Kei's achievement occupied by tremendous amount of time, money and extremely hard (sometimes boring) work. He has absolutely no reason to share it and we shouldn't even dare to ask for it.TheDevilsCorpse wrote:(...) BUT the notion that the material itself needs to stay rare is beyond silly to me.
If you want this material to be shared everywhere, do the same job Kei did and spread the audio files all over the internet.
If you believe in left wing propaganda that all people are equal and that they deserve the same, just get the audio as people who have it got it. What's the problem?DBGod wrote:I can tell based on the first sentence that your very right winged.

They don't give crap about things like quality. This! By the way, I think that spreading music ripped from Laserdiscs wasn't a good idea. Overall conclusion: We should keep everything hidden and we should keep spamming at Toei, Fuji TV and Columbia.

Send e-mails, personally I did it several times (FUNimation, Toei Animation, AB Groupe
), and of course, I've never heard back from any of them.My next attempt will be to send them a YouTube link (an excerpt from an episode with the broadcast audio, upscaled Dragon Box Z footage
) with a postscript : "Dear publishers/rights owners.Your next Dragon Ball/Z/GT release will include the original japanese broadcast audio, as you're watching here.If not, we'll be forced to spread it everywhere.EVERYWHERE.We know that you have the material and/or relationships to do so, so take your time, do your best, don't disappoint us."
Yes, it's ridiculous (including the fact that I don't even have the broadcast audio
), hopeless, useless, it's just a TV show, but it's the only way I've find to, maybe, one day, watch it as it meant to be.

Okay. Based on your response here, you don't seem to to be grasping what I was saying. So I'm just going to assume you only read my first post and then didn't really bother with anything I said after that. I'm going to suggest that you please go read over all of them before claiming that i'm thinking ignorantly, because basically every point you're trying to make here has nothing to do with the point I was trying to make, as I never said Kei should just freely distribute his hard work on 300+ audio files to every corner of the web for Dragon Ball Fans. I personally don't care (I've gotten used to the Japanese audio on my FUNi DBZ releases) nor have space to store that kind of thing but it's selfish nonetheless because seeing that HDDs and storage media isn't that reliable so spreading it on the internet would guarantee that it'd always be available though that's up to him and no one else.He has absolutely no reason to share it and we shouldn't even dare to ask for it.
People from the FFShrine community share rarities every day but then there's the Dragon Ball fans who think keeping it in the shadows it's for the better. I found this special to be rather boring, tedious and lame and the same goes for the Gaiden Earth/Universe.
That won't do any good. They'll just add your email to the blacklist/spam and not see it again.ShinGaijin wrote:Send e-mails, personally I did it several times (FUNimation, Toei Animation, AB Groupe), and of course, I've never heard back from any of them.My next attempt will be to send them a YouTube link (an excerpt from an episode with the broadcast audio, upscaled Dragon Box Z footage

Can you explain why do you think so? I don't see any connection between illegal distribution of the unreleased material and doing something to get another home video release.dbboxkaifan wrote:Keeping everything hidden is the same as doing nothing (...)
If company knows that something does not exist in public domain, they automatically have arguments to think that there will be a big demand for it. There are thousands of people who will not pay for something they already have.

What you're suggesting is for people to send them emails and you have to acknowledge that not many can be bothered to do it, so for their own best of interest they'll just keep on releasing stuff to have the fans satisfied. Are you trying to say that fans demand has nothing to do with company's decisions?
Yes, you're right. Our owners should decide when and what we need
Illegal distribution comes in when the company itself does nothing about it and so that's what fans have to resource to.Can you explain why do you think so? I don't see any connection between illegal distribution of the unreleased material and doing something to get another home video release.
If company knows that something does not exist in public domain, they automatically have arguments to think that there will be a big demand for it. There are thousands of people who will not pay for something they already have.
Excluding the rest which also puts that rare content at risk. What is selfish?
You obviously did not read ShinGaijin's comment. When I wrote to Nippon Columbia, they gave me quite a detailed response.
There's nothing wrong being hopeful but if it isn't then it's fine as I have Dragon Boxes Z 1-7, Level BDs (eps 035-039 digitally) and the Kai BDs.I don't think that praying to Kanzenshuu will do any good
By the way, PlanetaDeAgostini from Portugal acquired the Portuguese dub audio files of Anne of Green Gables which were long lost through a blog that provided them and then they decided to make an official home release using it so saying that putting it out on the internet impedes from getting a release is bs. If you guys think it's good to keep it hidden then have it your way. It makes no difference to me, as I'm happy with what I have.
