You said Spike makes better DBZ games, but to a lot of people DBZ is overwhelming explosions, destruction and chaos. Budokai 3 goes the extra mile with that.

No. All of Dimps games have been better than Spike's. All of Spikes games last gen were mediocre around the board scoring nothing higher than a 5 in the median, and thats a joke by gamer standards. B3 came out in 2004 and its still at a 7. Spike's redundant, uncreative, poorly animated inspiration was the very reason why the DBZ games were laughing stocks to most non-fans. Badly programmed, nothing new but 1 or 2 added characters and barely improving gameplay.IGhostUlt wrote:Spike isn't even bad their tenkaichi and raging blast games were better "dbz" games than anything dimps have created but that might be the exception for xenoverse
Xenoverse seems to be effortlessly be giving us the fanservice people had been begging for since RB1 and this wasnt even asked for. I dont want to overestimate Xenoverse but the fact that some actual creativity is being put into it and the genericism of the game itself is now fading with each new addition I cant see what use Spike is. I havent been excited for a DBZ game since RB2 disappointed me.

But if a story is perfectly coherent (and I'm really not seeing any compelling arguments that this one is anything but, despite constantly recurring, really poorly reasoned, attempts to argue otherwise), and you're bemoaning the lack of "shine" moments as a reason for the story's poor quality, then you're letting your thirst for "shine" moments obfuscate your ability to detect basic storytelling when it's right in front of you.

Looks like I'm the only one who doesn't find Xenoverse anything but mediocre at this time.
I do admit the teleporting thing is a great idea. Although that could make Shunkan Idou very useless.

Dimps is just better with animation an cinematics period. Watch Budokai 1 (YEAH Budokai 1) cutscenes, and compare the animating, acting and camera movements to that of Ultimate Tenkaichi or Raging Blast.
DImps captures the Dragon Ball essence easily. However, their win poses do one animation and they freeze (excluding Burst Limit). That's weird.
Spike has weird, dumb ass camera movements and pans, and can't animate a character turnaround or their mouth for that matter. Dialogue looks dry as hell. However, they do replicate (and only replicate) the animation from the show when doing rush moves.

Even if the game ends up being bad, I'm still buying it for the character creation. If anything it will make designing OC's so much easier.Doctor. wrote:Looks like I'm the only one who doesn't find Xenoverse anything but mediocre at this time.

Yes, it does. I don't care if it's DIMPS or Spike who's making the game, I'm not going to go and say praise or hate for the game just because I know which team is developing it like some people are apparently doing. This game looks very very mediocre, a slightly improved version of Battle of Z at best. The only thing I'm excited about is the new story mode and character creator. Because gameplay wise, it looks very bland. Even if it's in alpha, still, the main mechanics are already done and nothing impressive has been shown.budokaifanatic007 wrote:So lemme guess you think BT/RB looks better? Spike games always had a better roster than dimps games, and those controls are opinionated, I've already said dimps can create better fighting games, and cutscenes

Indeed, Spike's cutscenes have always ALWAYS been poorly animated but not as bad as they were in UT. Mouths were too big for the face, facial expressions are stiff, character movements are jerky... the only thing Spike has, is good character models, that they do better than Dimps.DarkPrince_92 wrote: Spike has weird, dumb ass camera movements and pans, and can't animate a character turnaround or their mouth for that matter. Though what always annoyed me with Spike is with Ultimate Tenkaichi is that they put more effort into the cutscenes than they do the ingame. The beam struggle with Baby and Custom Character in hero mode was incredible. Ingame beam struggle, looked nothing like it. Goku transforms against Harudigarn, looked perfect. Ingame, no where near it.

I honestly don't care if certain characters are clones rather than not having them at all. For a dbz game the more characters the better

Well firstly, if we're assessing the "DBZ-ness" (and just general overall video game quality), Xenoverse has already begun to demonstrate they're delivering with running and jumping/rolling animations, speed and look of homing dashes. Characters now actually have unique hit strings, you'll perhaps notice this more if you watch the first vid by the time you've gotten to the ssj3 goku vs kid buu fight. No more generic smash 1 to 5 or whatever. DIMPS are also showing a lot more character with this one, if you take a look at 0:53 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXKGwgL ... R27DfWwoISDoctor. wrote:Not seeing anything impressive at all for Xenoverse so far, in terms of gameplay at least, for you to make those types of statements.DonieZ wrote:Sorry but this is a load of rubbish. I agree that most of Dimps' fighting games don't really feel like DB, with imo Burst Limit being the exception. But to say Spike "does them better" isn't really a great assessment, they're two completely styles. I'd rather say "Spike tries to create games which feel more like DBZ, but nobody else is competing with them so there is no one to compare to and as a result Spike makes the best DBZ-ish games". My point is, you give Spike this credit because you have no one to compare to. However with Xenoverse we finally will, and you will see how mediocre Spike truly are.
the knock away follow up dash is pretty cool. Vegeta's a few seconds later doesn't look so generic as Spike's do either.
There obviously isn't much to go on, mainly because we haven't actually been shown people who are good at the game, play the game. If you notice the opponent barely ever block when the other attacks, we need to see some higher level play, they're clearly still getting to grips with it themselves. Even then, after watching a video or two, at least in terms of combat, DIMPS' characters are a hell lot more unique than Spike's ever have been. That's a fact and if you can't see that you're blind. I also don't understand how you are comparing this BoZ, I really don't. I just sacrificed a part of my sanity to watch a bit of some gameplay, and I have no idea how you've called XV a "slightly improved version of Battle of Z at best". (Side note, defo the worst DB game I have ever played - tried the demo).

A LOT of them, but that's isn't the case, we don't need a lot of of characters, but having them doesn't hurt at all, actually it makes it betterBlack_Anime_Fan wrote:And how many of them would you actually play as?IGhostUlt wrote:I honestly don't care if certain characters are clones rather than not having them at all. I know this wasn't directed at me, but all of them. Of course some would be favored over others, but I would still play with all of them. I played every character in BT3 at least a dozen times over.Black_Anime_Fan wrote:And how many of them would you actually play as?IGhostUlt wrote:I honestly don't care if certain characters are clones rather than not having them at all. This ideal that fans project is the wrong priority. More than half of the new characters in BT3 werent even in the storymode.IGhostUlt wrote:I honestly don't care if certain characters are clones rather than not having them at all. For a dbz game the more characters the better
The credibility of the game to more hardcore players drops when they all end up just stock drones that dont add anything to the game beyond survival mode variety.TheDevilsCorpse wrote:I know this wasn't directed at me, but all of them. If characters are created with having totally unique move sets and hit strings in mind, then you shouldn't expect so many characters. What Spike made possible was only possible since the only thing that differentiated characters was their signature skill and variation in the direction and order of follow ups; pretty meh.IGhostUlt wrote:A LOT of them, but that's isn't the case, we don't need a lot of of characters, but having them doesn't hurt at all, actually it makes it betterBlack_Anime_Fan wrote:And how many of them would you actually play as?IGhostUlt wrote:I honestly don't care if certain characters are clones rather than not having them at all.
