Re: DBZ portion of Manga to be in full color?!
This is so depressing, I was already planning on saving some money and buying the manga in this form. I was thinking about buying the japanese kanzenbans but it seems a bit much since I don't have so much money and my japanese isn't perfect. I'll have to look into whatever spanish editions of the manga exist and buy those instead, I guess.

It was, and if I'm not wrong, it should be available later this month. €12.95, in case you're wondering (around 16 US dollars).
It's pretty expensive, but manga in general is expensive in Spain.

So damn sad.
Guess we can't do anything other than hope they reconsider in the future.

Crap, so they have the same size as the regular tankoubon. Was really hoping they'd also go with Viz's bigger size. Well, at least it's a full color edition people in Spain, Portugal and Latin America can understand.

Well, if that's the size the original Japanese edition had, I'm fine with that.
I've never been a die-hard fan of the kanzenban size, for example: I find the tankobons easier to read if you're in bed

True, the smaller the books are, the easier they are to read, but in the full color's case, I really appreciated Viz's larger size. Since the enhanced artwork is this edition's biggest selling point, the bigger size meant you could enjoy that artwork even more. Not to mention it's a paperback, so it's not a big deal in any way. Big books only get a bit harder to read if they're hardcovers.
But I totally get what you mean, I'm a bedtime reader, too.

Oh! Thanks for the info about the spanish release! I'm actually going to be living in Spain for 3 months so maybe I can purchase at least one of them. Manga might be expensive here, but in Colombia it isn't even printed or regularly imported
So I tend to buy manga from american publishers, since the cost is lower than shipping from Europe would be.

It's a shame they don't seem to be interested in releasing the rest of the series. I think it may be time to start a scanlation project.

It's a shame that this edition has probably been cancelled by Viz, but they figured that such a high quality release couldn't cover the costs so they just got rid of it.
Dammit Viz, they went from the Full Colours to the 3-in-1 which is an absolute downgrade.

Wouldn't that be made easier now by just substituting Viz's translation?UpFromTheSkies wrote:It's a shame they don't seem to be interested in releasing the rest of the series. I think it may be time to start a scanlation project.
Canon is Jaco, Dragon Ball except for EoZ, Dragon Ball Super anime and manga (both are separate canons)

Re: DBZ portion of Manga to be in full color?!
The weird part aboiut the Spanish release is that it was announced as being 42 volumes long, yet they start from Z, just like in Japan.
I pointed out the mistake the first time I saw it, and some people who didn't really understand what I was talking about tried to handwave it by saying some nonsense I don't remember now.
The pre-Z volumes haven't been released in printed form in Japan, but I guess that nothing prevents a foreign company from acquiring the rights to those digital editions and releasing them... right?

^ That depends on the amount of control that Shueisha has over the country's publisher.
For example, in France, it seems pretty hard to deviate from the original Japanese release, even when it's about making a chapter list another color instead of flashy green, Shueisha is very much like "No, you French guys get what Japanese guys have, nothing more, with minimum required tweaks" (for example, tweaks to make the covers more international-friendly for animangas, sometimes using a same template than other out-of-Japan countries, a template probably given by Shueisha).
So I can bet you that in France, if they end up doing the Full-Color release, they will be forced to publish in the original Japanese tankobon size starting from Z/Kai, basically giving us translated copy-paste of the Japanese release.
The US, on the other hand, seems free to change what they see fit: editing pictures if needed, using Kanzenban covers on other editions, changing the size...
I would prefer to have a bigger size like the US, since the full-color edition's objective is mainly to have drawings being more impressive and making you go "wow" with all those details and colors. So a bigger size helps (just the Kanzenban, although still in black and white, makes a major difference in the reading experience just by its bigger size making panels and the action much more impressive). That being said, I know what to expect, I know that France will stick to the Japanese material and get the tankobon size starting with Z/Kai.

Re: DBZ portion of Manga to be in full color?!
Viz hasn't stated that this release's been cancelled (have they?) but most likely it is because they as a company have acknowledged that they can't keep printing this for such a low price, so while the fans are indeed very upset it was the best move for themselves.Dbzfan94 wrote:And I just bought the Full Color Saiyan Saga books, and now I hear this. On the bright side they're awesome artbooks to keep around and you never know if the price increases ridiculously for the mere fact of going out of print (don't think it'd be that much because it's still acquirable through other countries that's been released).

July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.
Re: DBZ portion of Manga to be in full color?!
Yeah, licensing can be a real pain. I think it's good that they don't let them deviate from the Japanese template (the "purer", the better, right?), but they should also do that to Viz so that we don't get any censorship/stupid changes of any kind. They probably have some kind of special deal that lets them deviate more from the original. Although, truth be told, that's also why they were able to print the full colors in a bigger size - only time I've ever seen them do something even better than the Japanese.Cold Skin wrote:^ That depends on the amount of control that Shueisha has over the country's publisher.
No, they haven't come out and just plain said it was cancelled (they very rarely do), but by looking at the new releases they have announced so far, the latest of which comes out June 2015, it's safe to say that the Full Color ship has sailed. They do announce new releases every now and then, but their announcement deluge is at Anime Expo, in July, and if they were to announce the continuation of the Full Colors at AE 2015, they'd come out around January/February 2016, which seems very unlikely. They'd be published 2 years after the first Saiyan saga volume, it's just too long. Not to mention they've had more than enough time since February to evaluate the sales. If they wanted to keep them coming, they would have announced the Freeza saga already. It's as Cold Skin says, Viz clearly doesn't like printing in color unless it makes them a boatload of money.dbboxkaifan wrote:^ Viz hasn't stated that this release's been cancelled (have they?).
Viz very rarely lets books go out of print. Even cancelled series like Reborn! and Gintama keep having new printings. Only their oldest books fall into oblivion (and even those sometimes see new printings).sintzu wrote:^ They never said the ones that are out will go out of print.
