Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread
No, Vegeta is humiliated because he doesn't accept it. Vegeta becomes so arrogant and overconfident that he gets in the mindset that he's unbeatable. That's why he's humiliated when he loses. Humiliation is a product of mindset, not physical fights. Goku, when he loses, accepts it and tries to get better. Vegeta whines about how it's impossible.Lord Beerus wrote:Because if that happens to any other character it's classified as a humiliating defeat. It's the sort of standard that many DB fans have these days. If you don't absolute own your opponent it battle, than any other outcome is seen as humiliating. I personally find that kind of mindset annoying.Kamiccolo9 wrote: True, but how is that Goku being humiliated? Goku knew that he was beaten, and acknowledged that. He accepted the loss gracefully, and Beerus acknowledged what a good foe he was. Hell, Beerus's master congratulated Goku on his effort, and offered him Beerus's job!
How, in any way, does that translate into Goku being humiliated?
Vegeta gets humiliated, Goku gets humbled.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread
There was no real threat in BOG, it was just a series of gags, but people seemed to like it well enough. The 2008 special already sort of used that concept, since the villains in that special were established as having been as strong as Freeza. Besides, the idea of devoting the story to having a joke villain may work for a 30 minute special, but for a two hour movie, there's going to have to be some genuine conflict if you ask me.

Herms wrote:The fact that the ridiculous power inflation is presented so earnestly makes me just roll my eyes and snicker. Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread
you had earlier dismissed my previous post from another thread with this.RandomGuy96 wrote: That's simply wrong. Freeza only got in 2-3 hits, none of which did any lasting damage to Goku (the most he managed was busting Goku's lip and giving him an "ow" face while stunning him very briefly). By contrast, Goku landed 9-10, all of which inflicted heavy injury, leaving him a bruised and bloody wreck by the end of the battle. A single jab from him made Freeza vomit blood. For Kami's sake, he sat there and let Freeza beat on him just so he could troll Freeza by pretending to be hurt before smiling and calling him weak.
No, he lost because Freeza was garbage by that point in the story. That was the whole point of the scene; Trunks outright told him to power up to 100%, and was still confident curb-stomping him that way (he might not have been considering the Mecha power-up, but that wasn't the point). Freeza scoffing at him and then getting killed in one hit, if anything, just makes him look more pathetic.
Stuff like him scoffing at Trunks and then getting one-shotted and begging for mercy from the guy who just kicked the shit out of him seem very specific to Freeza.
See, I would believe that if he was just given the treatment all the other past villains were. He'd put up a damn good fight and almost win in the final battle, and while someone would surpass him in the next arc, they wouldn't be overt or insulting about it. A good example is Daimao. The series makes it clear that Piccolo and Goku are way stronger than Daimao by the 23rd Budokai, but they don't take it to Freeza levels of mockery. If Daimao had gotten the same treatment as Freeza, he would have first gotten painfully curb stomped after Goku drank the water, rather than fighting evenly with him. He would hit himself with his own attack because he's a moron, despite Goku actually taking pity on him because of how much of a joke he is and trying to help him avoid it. He would then cry and beg for mercy, be a moron again, and get blown away. In the next arc, he would have showed up at the 23rd Budokai and talked shit only to get one-shotted and trash-talked by Tenshinhan. In the arc after that, Chaozu would call Daimao weak and casually mention that he can kill him in one hit.
Cell is another good example; he comes very close to winning that beam struggle with Gohan. By the Buu arc, Goku says they can handle him now, but he never says "yeah, Cell is totally weak, even a guy way weaker than the guy who's way weaker than me can kill him in one hit", and, unlike Freeza, Cell gets a stand-in who gets one-shotted by the new guy on the block rather than getting one-shotted himself. And said new guy is actually the main villain rather than a mid level side character who is immediately shown afterwards to be irrelevant garbage. Plus, Toriyama showing him to be dumb and cowardly on top of being weak can't really be explained by power scaling.
But what I got from new info trickling down from the DBO timeline onwards, BOG interviews and guide books afterwards and the recent DB Minus new info about Freeza knowing about saiyan god, Akira Toriyama has been trying to retcon the 'Freeza character' as a whole. may be trying to do justice to that particular character the way he was killed off by Mirai Trunks. Akira Toriyama may be trying to effectively retcon, his mistreatment of Freeza character.
Moreover listening to Maximum the hormone F may have had an certain effect that changed his perspective. Who knows?
Whatever it may the case be,this movie apparently seems to imply Freeza may be getting a proper farewell this time, snake salute. the movie title even has a F as the song.

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread
The way the poster is split, maybe Goku and Vegeta will take two different paths or have two completely different stories. Goku will maybe train or go on a mission with Beerus and Whis and Vegeta stays behind then the whole Freeza thing happens, but that means he won't be able to go SSG unless Bra is born or in Bulma at least.
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread
I think the most interesting result of this would be Freeza ultimately not being killed/dying and being let go or whatever. How crazy would it be if he were just out there, alive?

Not really, BOG may have had a very comedic tone to it, but Beerus did provide a genuine conflict for the film. He was the strongest opponent Goku and the others had ever faced, and the Earth was in actual danger of being destroyed.RandomGuy96 wrote:There was no real threat in BOG, it was just a series of gags, but people seemed to like it well enough. The 2008 special already sort of used that concept, since the villains in that special were established as having been as strong as Freeza. The new movie should be called "Freeza's Return:Daddy always knew best." It'll be a 5 minute short film, in which Freeza has a short flasback to when King Cold said "let's just blow up the planet," and then Freeza blows up the planet, and goes to Freeza Planet 419 to drink a martini.Lord Beerus wrote:Not a fan of Freeza I can tell.Kamiccolo9 wrote:The movie ends after 5 minutes with Freeza destroying the planet from orbit while everyone's asleep. Yes, Freeza thinking he's the shit only to have everyone pointing out he really isn't. Eventually he retires, gets a son and manages to employ Vegeta to explore distant worlds.RandomGuy96 wrote:I'm serious. I think that movie could be hilarious. They'd have to play Freeza himself seriously though. In filler, they make him too comedic; the main source of laughs would be how everyone realizes how weak he is except him. He'd be serious and think himself threatening while the kids, the teenage girl, the fat pink man baby, and his former servant all troll him, with the guy that curb-stomped him last time just laughing him off and treating him like a former friend because he's just not worth getting mad at. That would all match the humorous tone that they seem to be going for in BOG and the Jump special.
Rather that, than this 'Freeza getting God-mode' bullshit.
I want to see new faces like Beerus and Whis, not an old enemy like Freeza getting revived so Vegeta can get his revenge because Toriyama has developed a soft spot for him. In the past additions to the "expanded universe" of DB, Freeza has got a lot of mentions and cameos and it has culminated with this disappointing news. I'm not saying it can't be good, but I expected DB to move on, not more of all this Freeza/Saiyan conflict crap.
