Backing up Dragon Boxes

Post by ShadowDude112 » Tue Jan 06, 2015 6:49 am

Hi, guys. So I'm on Winter Break and want something to do. I realized I wanted to back up my Dragon Boxes just in case something happened to them. Also, it will help watching the series a lot easier and the boxes can still look pretty on my shelf. Anyone know a good way to do this? What program should I use and how should I be sure the quality, subtitles, and everything makes it through okay?

I mean, you're pretty open about looking at cartoon porn. Why would you do that? It's fiction. The proportions of these women are not possible to reach in reality.

I personally use imgburn, but there's loads of guides and other programs. Just google "how to make a dvd iso":

That is so outdated. Use DVDFab or AnyDVD HD.

You can make disc images with the software above, which will preserve the menus and everything.
These are exact copies of your DVDs, and you can play them in any DVD-compatible software.

Or you could look into a mux, where you take the uncompressed video, audio and subtitle streams & insert them into mkv containers. This is a little more difficult to do, but instead of 40+ disc images, you'll end up with 291 ~1GB lossless video files.

I opted for the second choice and backed up the menus separately.

DVDfab is by far the best for DVD cloning. Combined with imgburn for burn process can't beat it, blu ray for cloning I would use DVD cloner

I forgot what I use to make exact copies, but I use MakeMKV to make MKVs quickly with the quality intact.

I'm sorry to say, but making dvd rips will never have the same quality. There will always be some loss. Maybe you can't see it very well, but re-encoding anything always makes a loss in quality.

That's why he remuxes audio/video streams into a different container instead of re-encoding them.

Yeah, okay, but what's the use to remux vob files into mkvs instead of making direct image copies?

Individual episode MKVs look neater are nicer to manage than having to deal with ISOs.

I can look at a folder of MKVs and pick the episode I want instantly. I have to remember which episodes are on what disc with ISOs.

I like having the menus to choose from. Each to his own, I guess.

Iso are easier for me, I don't like having to deal with a bunch of files on my computer. I never seen the point in breaking down the DVD unless your gonna alter the video and audio. I use vlc media player 1.0, it's the only media player free that plays Iso correctly. If search the web you might still can find that software version.

MPC-HC and BE both play ISOs just as well as VLC.

Alongside the freedom to use add-ons such as MadVR, XySubFilter and ReClock; it's pretty much the go-to for anyone serious about using their PC for viewing media.

What is BE? Last I time I heard a VLC discussion it was a slugfest about how the ole' traffic cone is the PC video's Internet Explorer.

BE is 'Black Edition', it's more or less just the same as the regular version but with a modernised UI.

Having setup more than a few dozen computers for video watching, here's what you want if you just want to sit on your computer and watch videos on it.

Just want it to work, don't want to deal with anything- VLC.

It'll work perfectly well.

If you want to use various codecs or splitters or customizations, MPC-HC and MPC-BE are effectively identical (I use BE.)

If you are just going to use them 100% out of the box, use VLC.

I've never heard of HE, I assume it was a typo for HC.

Mulder's version of Mplayer for Windows is also a good alternative.

A lot of streaming media (chromecast) doesn't work with vobs or isos, so I use the MKVs instead to stream from my comp or phone.
