English names

There are plenty of English words that make the "ee" sound when spelled "ie." Believe, for example. I see no problem with the "ie" spelling, but it's not my site, so whatevs.

English is an odd language. ie, ee, ea, and even just "I" can produce the same sound.

IIRC there are no pronunciation guidelines and even if they exist they are vague as hell. Coming from background when a was a I found it really pointless.

Yeah, learning to pronounce English is a mess. Even now, I sometimes como across words which I'm not really sure how to pronounce (I tend to have two possibilities).

Honestly I find it really hard to take people seriously when they use English dub names for characters/techniques, so I personally enjoy the few filters that exist here.

The Japanese names can't be obsolete since they're the original terms used in the original manga and anime. Shitty changes made in the English dub can't replace or render them obsolete anymore than a Polish dub renaming Vegeta to Borscht or whatever.

Kanzenshuu is, so far as I know, a site aimed at the international community so it makes sense that the administration would encourage using terms from the original dub that people from all countries can watch. People from non-English speaking countries shouldn't be expected to learn that Paikuhan is named P-i-k-k-o-n in the English dub to understand a discussion about the series.

This is exactly where I was trying to get with my comment. Dragon Ball has a ton of international dubs, each of them with their own names for the characters/attacks and sometimes completely different scripts. I mean yeah sure someone can totally dig in that Super Warriors refers to the Super Saiyans, but damn son, do you remember that moment when Songohanda fired his Magic Beam against that bulky Space Warrior for killing Satan's Little Heart? It was totally rad.

Yes, we did. But fortunately, Vital Wave (NOW!) was the translation used 99% of the time.

Good point, sir. I totally forgot about that. Guess it's up to the fans to educate the casuals so that at least the "Bills" usage can at least be reduced.

The pronunciation of "Songoku" and Son Goku is different so it's not the same thing.
