Opening theme changes crossing borders

I have a question regarding how some people get on Funimation for "Rock the Dragon" instead of "Cha-La". Is this hate unique to when anime gets a new opening theme in the US/Canada/outside of Japan, or do guys in Japan get mad when they change the opening theme to American cartoons imported there as well? For example, did anyone in Japan get mad that X-Men didn't use the original theme there?

But seriously, aside from some of the character dialogue and name changes, the Funi dub is fine... Now if you happen to be watching the show with mute off, you will notice a majority of the music sucks, at least imo. Cha la is pretty timeless, especially with all of its remixes. Rock the Dragon just seems so corny to me. Yes, I use the word corny in 2006.

I have the "Jungle Remix" on my Zen. It r0x0rz. I listen to it all the time.

"Rock the Dragon" is okay as a theme song, in my opinion, but it doesn't measure up to good old "Cha-La." As for what the japanese audience think about the dub, I'll bet... they don't. They have the original, and can more than understand it. What do they care about some stupid foreign dub?

I think the question is more what they think of theme song changes when English shows are dubbed into Japanese.

On a somewhat related note, I hear the Japanese dub of Beast Wars Transformers (a Canadian show) had a lot of pointless plot changes that caused problems in later seasons. (IE, making Convoy/Optimas Primal the same character as the original Convoy/Optimus Prime. Making Airrazor a boy.) My reason for bringing this up? It seems bad dubs happen everywhere.

Well, on a personal note, I believe that Chala Head Chala is wonderful and catches the spirit of Dragonball perfectly. I also believe Blue Velvet and Don't You See does that as well, but it's just my personal taste. The Rock the Dragon song fits the movies very well as an intro song, as they are very, very dynamic and sort of random, just as the song. But I don't hate it, it's quite good.

And actually, Funi's DB/DBZ dub has very little name changes, and aside from some like "Herc-ule" they're pretty close for the most part. Then if you look at French or Spanish tracks of American cartoon dvds, you see name changes there as well

Name changes just seem to be....inevitable. No matter what country you're from. Some bad, some even worst.

I have a nolstalgic place in my heart for Rock the Dragon as it's the first theme I heard for Dragonball Z. However, I have an even bigger place in my heart for Cha-La Head Cha-La because it fits the spirit of Dragonball Z.

Anyhoo, Cha-La's apparently just this happy, free-spirited kinda song. Probably supposed to be like a theme song for Goku.

It's just some rock music with some loud voices screaming "ROCK, ROCK, ROCK THE DRAGON!!!" but suprisingly i have seen so many people here saying thats it's great. I dont understand it at all. If it's something i have to give Viz credit for it's using the original Japanese opening themes for at least some of their series. They used the Japanese opening themes for Ranma 1/2 at least and i have heard that they abadonded the horrible opening for Naruto they first used and gone over to using the second Japanese opening themes. Dubbing companies should learn to use the Japanese themes from them.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure the Japanese people dont care what America gets. Japan usually gets the best of the best in anime so i dont really think they care what other countrys get, but it's possible that they discuss it some rare times.

Rock the Dragon is a classic.

When FUNi made their own crap intro with the Faulconer music and the bad clip selection, that made me appreciate Rock the Dragon even more.

What I don't get is why you hate that song when you seem not to have heard it before at all.

I don't hate it, but I don't like it that much either. Cha-la is better.

About the lyrics of Cha-la: I think it's maybe to show Goku's carelessness, that even though what happens, he will still love Earth and it's beauty (like it's comical butt-mountains and dumb dinosaurs as an example).

But the latter Funi electric guitar music in Buu saga I think, it just hurts.
What is it with Funi and electric guitars?
Plus the horrible high pitched music in the beginning of the movies, what ends with "Dragonball Z..z...z...z..z....".

Personally I think "Rise" is much beter than "Rocks," but that's me. But what I was mainly wondering about was how there are purists who like Japanese openings for anime, yet if there are purists in Japan who got mad about this:

Well, it has been a long time since last i heard it and i dont listen to music i dont like on my free time. Yeah, you're right they do say more than i thought. They still doesnt say much tough and the background music is just some rock music and an electric guitar slaped in. It's just a really boring song to me.

Yeah, that opening was pretty hot. It reminded me of the 2-D Capcom/ Guilty Gear X games & caught that spirit pretty well. But hey, I'll readily admit I'm a Japan-o-maniac, so I try to be as unbiased as possible
