Re: Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butouden (3DS)
The touch screen feature does remind me of Super Sonic Warriors. I hope for fun what if stories if we get them again.

Re: Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butouden (3DS)
The game was most likely too risky for the cost of localizing. The larger the game size, the larger the cart needed. The game was significantly larger than previous DB DS titles.VegettoEX wrote:There's never been an actual, given answer of "Why didn't it come out?" but...
Ultimate Butoden came out at a weird time. The 3DS was coming out at the exact same time. Yeah, there was a HUGE install base on the original Nintendo DS, but the push to the next system combined with absolutely out-of-hand, rampant piracy for the original DS (via R4 cards and the like) probably contributed to, "Ehh... let's just not bother."
EDIT: Seriously, sprites are back?? Who would have thought!

Well Super Sonic Warriors 2 and Shin Budokai 2 seem to flop in the US. Maybe Namco Bandai didn't think another fighting game on the DS will sell well. I think Extreme Butouden can get a US release if we show support to it. Tweet Namco Bandai and post on their FB page to show that we want the game in the US.

Re: Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butouden (3DS)
Yeah, judging by the way the game looks, the details we know about the gameplay and the developer behind it it seems like this game is Butouden in name only and is really SuperSonic Warriors 3. Not that that is a bad thing mind you, just kinda odd that they are naming it what they are.Quebaz wrote:We might be in for a SuperSonic Warriors 3 instead of a straight up Butouden title guys, those Sprites look like a more detialed version of the SuperSonic Warriors ones and the Bottom Screen is just like the Team-screen from SSW2.
Xenoverse seems to be reigniting some of the interest in DBZ games in the west and Namco is on a localization spree, so I think the worst case scenario for this game is that they bring it to the west as a digital download only with no english voices but all the text translated.Hellspawn28 wrote:Well Super Sonic Warriors 2 and Shin Budokai 2 seem to flop in the US. Dicey translations lmao since when have we been dicey? The S wrote:Oh man, a new DragonBall 2D fighter. I think I have an erection.
EDIT: It may be one of ShonenGamez' dicey translations, but this is so far the largest and clearest scan I've seen so far

Edit: We only missed the part that Arc System Works is developing this but we quickly fixed that.

I completely missed that this is coming out in Summer in Japan. So basically if Namco plans on localizing this and they don't announce it this month they probably will at E3.

I was shoveling snow so I'm a little late to the party... AAAAHHHH!!!! All I ever wanted. I'm killing someone if this doesn't come to the U.S. The 3DS and that region lock is beyond inconvenient.

It appears Yajirobe is an assist.
Re: Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butouden (3DS)
Those sprites look really lovely, they realy remind me of a kinda truer to the source Hyper DBZ ones. Hopefully they bring in interesting movesets again like SSW2 did.

The fact that this is a sprite based fighter made by arc system is awesome beyond description.

OMG just finally spotted Commie Oolong as an assist. Lovin' it.
Battle High 2, starring Kyle Hebert as well as myself, has been released on Xbox 360, OUYA, PC, Linux, Mac, and Xbox One!
Re: Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butouden (3DS)
This definitely looks like a spiritual successor to Supersonic Warriors. I had no idea ArcSys developed that series. Alas, I don't have a 3DS

Wait...Arc System Works...as in the company behind Persona 4 Arena and Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (though they're probably more well known for BlazBlue)?

Re: Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butouden (3DS)
That right, they also did the SuperSonic Warriors series, so the DBZ Universe isn't new to them.Gyt Kaliba wrote:Wait...Arc System Works...as in the company behind Persona 4 Arena and Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (though they're probably more well known for BlazBlue)?

Hate to be "that guy", but since you asked...TheGameTagerZ wrote:Dicey translations lmao since when have we been dicey?
We had been planning on translating the Famitsu review for XENOVERSE anyway, so we compared what you had after Julian went through and did his own. There were a whole bunch of instances of seemingly phrasing things in a way that implied more than was there, and then also missing the context entirely. For a couple concrete examples from just one of the four review paragraphs:
In Urara's review, there's a comment about the previous generation of consoles having a bit of slowdown with 3-on-3 battles. Your site's translation has this awkward phrasing of a full 3-on-3 fight being "antiquated" and then "the graphics really bring this into the new generation" when what's actually being said is that the graphics are pretty much on-par with each other across the two console generations. The biggest mis-translation there is a total mis-reading on the word "weight"; what's actually being said is that the game is overall weighted more toward online play, whereas your site's translation misses the boat and says there's "waiting" to be had with regard to looking for online matches.
It's that kind of stuff that prompts us to always refer back to the original Japanese text in these promotions and always do our own independent research, confirmation, and reporting. I know you've asked/submitted before, and that's why we do what we do.

Huh, I had no idea they had also done SuperSonic Warriors. What little I remember playing of the first one for GBA (borrowed it from a friend once, I think it's the only GBA game for the franchise I don't own come to think of it), I remember liking it pretty well. So if we're getting something new from that team again, color me excited.

Re: Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butouden (3DS)
Can't we translate "超究極" as "Super Ultimate" Butōden? Or would that cause too much confusion and make people think it's a direct sequel to the DS game (in which "Ultimate" was written as "アルティメット")?
The whole "Extreme" translation is bringing back bad 90s flashbacks. "EXTREME! EXTREME! XXXXXXXXX-TREME!"
I can't help but be optimistic about this one coming to the US. They've probably been looking for a portable, non-Heroes game to localize and start raking in some 3DS money.

Re: Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butouden (3DS)
For what it's worth, our translation of the DBZ Movie 7 title ("Kyokugen Batoru!! San Dai Sūpā Saiya-jin"} is "Extreme Battle!! The Three Great Super Saiyans".MagicBox wrote:Can't we translate "超究極" as "Super Ultimate" Butōden? So if you've got a "Super" on top of the "Extreme"... I dunno?
Of course, the person(s) responsible for our translation decisions are better suited for explaining the etymology and taking responsibility for our translation of the game's title
