And the most asked question again: Where are Goten and Trunks?!
Fusion reborn only had Gohan, Goten and Trunks procteting the earth (Well, Videl too...) but they didn't have a hard time, so the other Z Fighters weren't necessary.
But now we have Gohan and Piccolo being beaten up. I doubt Krillin, Ten and Roshi will keep up either.

If there was someone that powerful around why even bother reviving Frieza? He's stronger than he ever was.

Wasn't it said that Freeza gained some new recruits after being revived? It's not far-fetched to think there's someone in the universe at Piccolo's level, his strength isn't exactly hard to attain since he's weaker than the adult SSJs.

That's my first and so far only concern as well. Guys like Piccolo and Gohan being beaten by the newly powered-up Freeza himself is one thing, but his random soldiers? Even the loosest and least informed writers, much less Toriyama, must realize that wouldn't make any sense unless the soldiers are somehow stronger than before, too. Even Tagoma is cited as being "only" on Zarbon and Dodoria's level, right?

It's supposed to be something dark. Toriyama dark, at least (Not Bardock and Future Trunks OVAs level).

Exactly. Also we dont have the whole scene for Piccolo, he may have got punched but he may have got up and beat the shit out of the grunt after. Furthermore, there is more of them than the heroes, this could have been their 329th battle with a grunt.

Piccolo is stronger than Frieza who was one of the strongest beings in the universe in just his first form. He was also stronger than the legendary super Saiyans at one point and then grew even stronger still.

So for some henchmen to just be knocking him around is far fetched too me.

Exactly and if Sorbet was the leader why would he have Tagoma as his bodyguard when there's this red bull guy?

I'm hoping that Frieza after training realises his power is no match for Goku's newly acquired God powers so takes another method of boosting his strength and this involves the henchmen as well.

Not only has Goku fallen but he's defeated plus :

1- Toriyama said he wanted Vegeta to be the hero.
2- The villain is Freeza who was already defeated by Goku and has a dark history with Vegeta.
3- Vegeta being on the cover alongside Goku.
4- Vegeta getting Ssjg.
5- Vegeta training under Whis.
6- The first chapter has Vegeta facing Freeza instead of Goku
