After hearing this great news. CD Universe is still having it up for grabs for the amazing low price of $25.05. Later! *goes back to playing Sparking! NEO*

I did, too.SaiyaJedi wrote:So, er... well, it's all good up until the point where the narrator tells us that it's going to be WIDESCREEN. At that point, I had to rewind and make sure I heard it correctly.
Well, maybe. I still think that this whole widescreen idea may turn out to be an optional feature, but if it's forced down our throats instead I'm still not going to whine about it like I probably should. The most important thing to me is getting all the episodes in a consistent format for a more affordable price than could ever have been conceived when we were all buying three episodes at $20 a pop.SaiyaJedi wrote:After all, these episodes were produced and broadcast in 4:3 aspect ratio (unlike the movies, which were animated at 4:3 but shown in theaters cropped to 16:9), and there's bound to be at least some of the picture lost by cropping the new masters. Plus, wasn't one of the main points of the Dragon Box to remaster the animation so that there weren't any gaps between the picture and the edge of the frame? This just seems counterintuitive.
Hmm. Technically, we already have uncropped versions of the series. Though I can't understand why they'd all-of-a-sudden switch things now, we do still have the option for both screen formats if you count those single-disc DVDs.
So if I pre-order this now, they have to hold that price for me? I just want to be sure that this works the same way as other retailers I've used.Sebastian (SB) wrote:After hearing this great news. The widescreen confuses me, also. Perhaps what they're trying to say is that the episodes will be animorphic. I mean, couldn't it be possible to take 4:3 video and make it look good on an HD television without messing with the actual footage (i.e., cropping)? Maybe I just don't know what I'm talking about...
And it'll be interesting to see if they FINALLY got the audio for the next-episode previews.[/i]

Most online retailers should hold to the initial price that they're offering. I highly doubt they'll change the price (especially if you pre-order it!).Li'l Lemmy wrote:So if I pre-order this now, they have to hold that price for me? As far as the first two sets go, I think they mean to include what was originally released on the Ultimate Uncut editions-- just this time in a more remastered format. Those episodes did feature new music and a revised dialogue, and Faulconer never had anything to do with them in the first place.b_boult wrote:"New revised English Audio Track" I hope to god this doesn't mean that Faulconer will be replaced and that instead they're only referring to dialogue. Can anyone try and confirm this either way?
But when it comes to anything beyond Namek, we'll have to wait and see; I don't know if the script revisions will continue that far in despite what the trailer is suggesting. If they do, that would mean that the Texas cast comes back in to record episodes they already did.
I personally don't see that happening, but one never knows.
Then consider it done.Sebastian (SB) wrote:Most online retailers should hold to the initial price that they're offering. I highly doubt they'll change the price (especially if you pre-order it!).

My theory on the whole Widescreen debacle is that it was simply an error in communication between the people making these sets, and those advertising them (their departments or whatever). The movies could be/might be 16:9, considering that there are proper 16:9 masters, but with the TV series, it just wouldn't make sense. If anything, the series would look worse like that.
Personally, when I owned the series in R2J, I'd watch it on a widescreen TV zoomed, simply because I'm lazy. 10% of the time, or less, you'd notice something, like eyes being cut off majorly or whatever. It's not THAT important, in perspective, most of the time, but you shouldn't be stuck with that as your only option. It's simply wrong.

Widescreen is an issue, I'll admit. We can and will be worried about it until we hear more details.sangofe wrote:I'm seriously concidering buying these sets, but...widenscreen :S?
But I'd give more consideration to the apparent 5 disc arrangement. 39 episodes? That comes out to 8-8-8-8-7 one way or another . . . so should there be any concern with the new remastered quality being pressed for space? I'm not much of a tech person, but I think even I understand that this could be a problem.
Unless someone is willing to explain to me otherwise, which I'd love to hear. Not that it would truly matter, as I'm still definitely scooping up this release.

Except that the movies were also intended from the beginning to be shown cropped in theaters, so the scenes are framed accordingly. Yes, there is material in the top and bottom of the frame, but most of it is extraneous detail. The TV show wasn't animated with a widescreen presentation in mind, so a lot more stands to be cropped out.b_boult wrote:In other words the series will be no better or worse than the DragonBox movies.SaiyaJedi wrote:(unlike the movies, which were animated at 4:3 but shown in theaters cropped to 16:9)

Yes. Thank you. I was about to go crazy with Funimation DVDs, but no more. Dragon Box footage finally coming over. Affordable prices, tons of special features...wow. I'm in shock.
Sure, the widescreen sucks, but its still amazing that this is going to happen. Thank you Funimation. (never thought I'd say that!)

Dragon Box footage? Who said anything about that? I thought the press release said FUNi was doing their own remastering process-- which from what little I've seen, doesn't look half bad.

They said "from the original Japanese masters". So maybe they're cleaning up the Dragonbox footage.....even more? Works for me.Li'l Lemmy wrote:Wait, what?fps_anth wrote:Yes. Thank you. I agree. Granted, there's only so much we can tell from one trailer, but already this footage looks worlds better than what they gave us with the Ultimate Uncut releases-- which also went under the title of "remastered".b_boult wrote:It is almost 100% certain not to be the Dragonbox masters yeah (they mention cleaning the film of blemishes and noise in the press release, which wouldn't be present on the original cells the DragonBox comprises of) but this remastering job looks pretty damn fine anyway so who really cares.
I feel for those people who have Ultimate Uncut sets sitting unfinished on their shelves, I really do . . . but if this is what they're being exchanged for, then I think it's going to be much better for all of us. (Though perhaps widescreen is still the wild card that will decide everything.) As far as FUNimation is concerned, this really is the biggest event in DBZ history.
Well, then here's hoping Mr. Labrie will replace DaizenshuuEX's Ultimate Uncut feature with an analysis of this set when it comes out.Tenken wrote:I wonder which set will look the best.

It's not on the official DBZ site yet, but it's on Yahoo!. ^_^
This is the best news I've heard in months!
Just saw the trailer and all I have to say it best news in a long time I pre-ordered it already and I suggest everyone else do it because the price might change...

I wonder what they plan to do with the movies?
Also it would be nice to see some sort of release schedule, hopefully it wont be over a year for all of the episodes to come out in this format.
On a lighter note I defecated myself upon hearing this news!
